Climbing Rose in my garden
A mix of last blooms for my desk

This past week & weekend saw the installation of a new gas furnace & central air conditioning in our home / Clear out initiated by the furnace install - feels very tidy / celebrated Bilbo & Frodo's birthday on the 22nd / a trip to both types of recycle centres, one for yard waste & one for household items to be re-used / closet switch over from summer lighter fare to warm & heavier winter items / final ideas captured for October's Thankful Thursdays on my blog / camera repairs done, not too expensive & it was the lens that took the brute injury not the body / library called, I started to read Dr Brene Brown's Rising Strong - she is amazing, simply amazing / F1 Racing watching / nights were sleep seems to run away from me, finding a quiet activity, I am sorting through all my December Christmas scrapping stuff - oh my / trying new vegetable recipes - favourite so far is the sweet potato & pear mash /amazed at the Full Moon both on the morning of the 27th and the evening of the 27th, although heavy clouds dulled the view of the Blood Moon / started watching new Masterpiece series; Indian Summers / GBBO  - I can honestly say I have never had a custard tart / Thanks Monday for being a day of fresh starts.

  1. you must find a custard tart to sample (unless you are allergic to one of the ingredients) they are delicious. Have a great week

    1. Based on the recipes I saw on The Great British Bake Off, I think all the ingredients would agree with me, just need to find a bakery locally that makes - no wait, novel idea, maybe source a recipe and make myself!! :)

  2. It's good to hear your camera repairs weren't too punitive.

In all our excitement over the rugby, we let our enthusiasm for the F1 slip this week.

Hope this week is a good one for you. Find a custard tart! Get out and take some pictures!

    1. I haven't seen any rugby games listed on our TV programming, even our BBC listing - must look harder, Mr Man likes when we find.

  4. You've had a busy week! The blood moon was spectacular out this way....clear skies all night. And I am loving the new Masterpiece show "Indian Summers" too. And like you, I've never had a custard tart. Flan is pretty popular here, would that qualify?

    1. My sources tell me flan is different to a custard tart - flans I've made; sourcing custard tarts is my new mission Even though we got storm cloud coverage, there was no rain from it and we need rain.

  5. One of my favourite school puds was Manchester Tart which is pastry with a layer of jam and then set custard on top (with a sprinkle of desiccated coconut). Probably nothing like a GBBO custard tart but still lovely. F1 was on quite early here but i did catch the last half of it.
I love sweet potato mash but with pear? Must try it!

    1. Louise the sweet potato pear mash is really simple; I will send you the recipe. The Manchester Tart sounds very similar to a tart we have here, usually found in the Mennonite bakeries ... Um maybe they'll have plain custard tarts :)

    1. Yes December Christmas stash sorting - this is a project that I enjoy but also become easily overwhelmed by - I need the early start, plus it was the messy box so was desperate for a good sort through :)

  7. I too enjoyed the full moon and took a few minutes to appreciate it, though did not attempt to watch the eclipse. Is Masterpiece a channel? I watched a bit of George and Arthur (you recently mentioned) a few months ago but didn't really settle into it. How are you finding Indian Summers? I really wanted to love it and tried v hard but in the end gave up. :o(
    Lovely flowers!

    1. Sunday nights - Masterpiece Theatre is BBC through US of A -PBS channel - it's where we get a lot, but not all, of our British dramas. We have just started with Indian Summers and I want to like. Arthur & George, liked but still glad it was a short series. For us the eclipse started about 9:30pm, so quite reasonable to be up but oh those clouds !!!!

  8. I just did the closet switch-over as well, although I left the wool sweaters in the attic for another few weeks. I've started thinking about December scrapping; not sure how I want to approach it this year.

    1. Karen I really like your DD style - the year that you did a lot of black & white paper (polka dots) were really good layouts - I think I saw your layouts on Pinterest long before I found your blog. One of my favourite layouts was one you did on a back ground of musical note paper with the inside of your church for Christmas service. I haven't hauled out any of the heavy sweaters or coats yet, so far weather holding to the warm side (thankfully).
