TGIF - September 27th

So playing along with Dr Brene Brown's TGIF (Trusting, Grateful, Inspired & Fun)

Trusting: that Mr Man's scheduled (another) new type of treatment for the good eye will work.  It's thankfully 90% covered by our national health plan.  Because of the 3 surgeries on the left eye, the right eye has developed serve dryness.  It apparently is quite a common "reaction".  The treatment will "express" the lipid glands in the eye & one treatment can last up to 6 months!  Now we wait for the appointment.

Grateful: for blog friends' book recommendations.  I think I forgot to mention I read one recommended by Ruth,   The Flatshare, a delightful read,  there was some cooking talk in the book that inspired one of my SPSH finds.  I've just finished one from Karen's List, The Stationery Shop.  I had a lump in my throat at the end which spilled over into tears.  To me it confirms how connected we all are by events & choices we make in reaction to those events.

Fun: It's October coming up soon & for Canadians that means the  month of Thankful & Grateful.  The fabulous Cathy Z has a short online workshop for 31/30 Days of Thankful.  I am thankful that Cathy recognizes the need for 31 / 30 days of Thankful for both her Canadian customers, who celebrate Thanksgiving in October, hence 31 days & for her  American customers that celebrate Thanksgiving in November, hence only 30 days.  There is a F/B group which is no cost.  You can sign up here for Cathy Z's online class, which has a cost: czclasses

Take Notice Thursday - Improvements

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.    What have you noticed this week?

This week it's all about card making.

From September's card class I tried stamping using a mask, which just means you stamp an image on a sticky note first, then stamp your image on the card base, put the stamped mask on top & then stamp other images close to, the mask prevents over stamping.  I like but it is a fiddly method. The mask was made for the purple flowers.

Using pearlized paint on a stamped image to highlight areas.  I liked this method.  The pearlized paint colour is called champagne.

Stamping & embossing an image then die cutting it out - again a bit of a fiddly technique.  I made this card for Mr Man's birthday celebrated earlier in the month.

In just under 2 years I've gone from being very scared about stamping a single simple image to trying multiply techniques for one card.   I may not be learning something new everyday in September, but I am trying something new in September.

Me On A Monday - September 23rd

Autumn is Mother Nature's way of teaching us that change can be a good thing.   Autumn arrived in this part of the world at 3:50am this morning - welcome.

This weekend we dropped off 4 bags of yard waste to the local recycle centre.  Truly thankful that we have this so close & it's free.

I noticed that the neighbours' Black Walnut tree has been totally defoliated by the tent caterpillars.  I'm trusting that the tree will survive the winter & come back in the spring.

We have a federal election coming up in October & every where these ugly signs are popping up -.  Thank goodness we have rules about the length of time this can go on before an election. It's usually 40 days.  This election it is truly a case of who do you dislike the least.  I wish we could have a two tier vote - one for the candidate in your riding & a vote of who you'd like for Prime Minister.  Alas it is not so, the vote you cast in your riding goes towards the total of seats for the Prime Minister.  I am inspired by the right to vote, & I'm inspired by the representative in our riding.  I'm just not inspired by the leaders of the parties - not any of them.

We had the fun of  a country slow drive to my favourite (& only) scrapbook store.  The soy is quickly ripening & the corn continues to grow.

Me On A Monday - September 16th

Good Morning.  We had quite a wet weekend with lots of rain that was mingled with thunder & lightening.  While our wet weather was not from Hurricane Dorian, I read that this hurricane was even affecting weather in Scotland! I also read that "the black blob" in the Pacific is again building & will impact our winter weather.  The blob is an area of water that is heating rather than cooling.  

With that late & cold damp spring we had, we are still seeing the effects in things like an over abundance of Eastern "tent" caterpillars.  We do see them every year but usually just in their favourite tree of choice - regionally it is the black walnut tree, but this year they are in every thing; trees, shrubs, plants.  Nasty things.  I know some folks that cut the branch off & burn the whole nest.  The only chemical treatment is banned in Canada.  

Currently watching on loan from the library, the DVD  series,  George Gently.  We just wrapped up series 6 & only 2 series to go.  We have had two other series recommended to us, Inspector Morse (which I think is a really old series) & Inspector Lewis (a spin off from Inspector Morse).  Our librarian recommended Inspector Morse series because we watch the Endeavour series which apparently is the prequel to Inspector Morse.  British crime series are the best.

I have some very late in the season sunflowers about to bloom - very tiny blooms but still a show.  These sunflowers were planted by the chipmunks - I scattered sunflower seeds about the garden for them to forage on.  I guess one of them thought hiding a few seeds in my flower pot was a good idea. 

I laughed quite a bit this week when in the mail we received an advertising  card from a local realtor.

 

In case it doesn't show well, the card says "Things To Do In August" and then lists 4 activities that all take place in September.
Details, not only is God hiding in them, but so is the important  information.

Take Notice Thursday - Plant Visitors

What have you noticed this week?

It seems to be that at this time of year in the garden, that the plants I want to admire close at hand, have visitors, some of which are way too close for my comfort.  I'm sure you can easily tell which ones I'm not keen on!

Me On A Monday - September 9th

Reading:  just finished a book from the "lightening" table at the library, which means you have only 7 days to read, it's not renewable.  The book was by Ruth Ware; "Turn The Key".  I liked & I would recommend, it had an ending that surprised me; I knew something was not as it seemed, but why, surprised me.  Suspense & intrigue but not scary.  I'm in the middle of two books; both long awaited by favourite authors.  Louise Penny's latest "A Good Man"  loving it!  The other is by Terry Fallis "Albatross"  started out really well, but it's dragging a bit now ... oh it could be my intense commitment to "A Good Man".

Enjoying:  the very definite & distinct change in the weather which is an indication of a seasonal change upon us.  It's quite cool at night which is great for sleeping & I do like to have the windows in the bedroom open just a smidge, although some nights the coyotes are a little too vocal & wake us at about 3-4am!  I have also had a look at pulling out my sweaters!!  Still many warm sunny days to enjoy.

Inspired:  during my recent technology clean up/de-cluttering, as I was deciding about a few F/B groups I'm part of but not really getting anything from them, one that I was about to click "leave group" & I saw a post from a lady that recommended watching some uTube vids from RTS (Record the Story) & her instruction on easy layouts/pre-made pages.  The Gird, The Block, The Band & The Happy Horizontal have all been watched & wow it was a lot of inspiration.  For any scrappers out there that haven't yet discovered Janet's RTS - Design 2.0, please do your self a favour & watch.  All of them are about an 1hr:15min.  Of course I think these are about 1 year old & I'm always late to these crafting parties! But knowledge is never old.   Oh yes I did leave that F/B group along with 3 other groups.

What I've noticed this week was finds for the SPSH 
 # 18. Something That Should Be Found In Pairs 

I had been seeing lots of examples for this particular item but every time I did, I was on a timetable to be somewhere & no time to stop to  capture the photo.  This week I found examples & had the time to stop, turn around & get the photo.  

Shoes Should Be In Pairs:  The white shoe looks to be brand new - how or why did someone toss or loose this shoe on the side of a busy highway?  

Gloves Should Be In Pairs:  When I was photographing the shoe, I turned around & there was another example - a latex glove.  Not the original glove shot I had in mind but it will do.  

Earrings Should Be In Pairs:  My third example was a find outside of the clinic where I work.  I was walking with my head down, as there's a little pothole in the sidewalk which I have tripped on several times, so I was keeping my head down to watch out &  there lying on the sidewalk was a really pretty single Silver Leaf earring.  Now surely someone is missing this gem.  We have it in our forgotten bin at the clinic with the hopes that someone comes to claim.  

And a lucky find of Something That Should Be Found In Pairs, was this sandal lying in the parking lot  ...

& as I walked through the lot to get to another store I noticed that the mate to the that lone sandal was lying on the grassy boulevard not 20 feet away!

Work; neat organized, very tidy, minimalist. At home; a little too much on the go clutter with unfinished pending projects.
