The set can be based on colour, shape or subject.
My Snap group today is of the trees that had ice induced damage from the damaging ice storm that hit Ontario, Wednesday 23rd - Thursday 24th. Thankfully our trees survived with only a few small branches snapping off. Many trees around us did not fare well. All day Saturday you could hear chain saws being used. I promise this is the end of my ice storm sagas.

One of the scariest things during our huge ice storm many years ago was listening as the trees and huge branches came crashing down. Everyone on our street lost trees or many branches, but none of us experienced any damage to our homes, which was a blessing. Ice storms are beautiful, but can surely cause a lot of damage.
ReplyDeleteIs that the ice storm of Dec 2014? We experienced the same, lots of downed trees but thankfully no one had home damage. The crashing that two days was painful to listen to because we knew there was absolutely nothing we could do to prevent or stop. I agree can be beautiful but oh so lethal.

DeleteNature is scary sometimes isn't it. The ice looks beautiful but it comes at a high price when you see the damage it reeks.
ReplyDeleteIt was especially pretty on Saturday when the sun finally shone, it was so sparkly.
DeleteSo sad about the trees..I had heard about the storm but hadn't seen photos of its destruction. The willow tree in the first photo is particularly beautiful and hopefully can survive.

ReplyDeleteI am a tree fan so when there is damage, it makes me very sad. Mother Nature amazes me but I give her the utmost respect.
DeleteBroken trees are such a sad sight. The willow tree is a wonderful specimen.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona. A lot of the big old willows were lost 2 years ago in the BIG ice storm & had to be removed, so not many are left at this park.

DeleteAs you mentioned on my blog this morning, it's so interesting to see terrains different from our own. I never thought about tree branches breaking from the weight of ice but I guess it makes sense. We get some crazy wind/dust storms during monsoon season (July-September) and see a lot of broken branches and uprooted trees. I'm happy to see that the snow/ice is melting for you!
ReplyDeleteMother Nature has many ways of reminding us of her power & unpredictability. Right now snow & ice all gone, but there is a 90% chance of snow next Monday.
DeleteAlways sad to see trees broken under the ice. I remember listening to the creaking and groaning as I snuggled in bed as a child.
ReplyDeleteI think the difficult part in an ice storm or any storm really, is that there is nothing you can do, Mother Nature just has her way & only her way.

ReplyDeleteWinter storms have a type of scary for me, but I am more frighten of the summer storms, they can bring tornadoes, which are becoming more & more frequent & that really scares me.

ReplyDeleteReminds me of the Christmas ice storm a couple of years ago - lots of chain saw noises and later once spring came - lots of trees being cut down.
