SNAP - Never Drink Alone

Linking in with Helena at:  SNAP

Helena's idea is that you share a set of between 2 and 4 images that have a visual link such as colour or shape or subject or that form a photo essay (or anything else you care to share as a visual set)

I was lucky enough to be sitting quietly on the patio & enjoyed an evening of birdsong & visitors at the birdbath.  Mr Yellow Finch gave a call & one by one his ladies joined him.  Thankfully I was also prepared by having my cameras with me.

  1. That's such a lovely set of photos.

I'm hoping to encourage birds in my garden once I've had the hard landscaping done. I don't have cats myself, but there's always one or two around so my question is - as a cat owner, please can you offer and advice on how to attract the birds yet still keep them safe when you have cats around?

    1. Eileen: I do not let my cats outside at all - I am a firm believer that unless they have a job (barn cats) they do not need to be risk getting killed on the road & them killing birds. OK that said. Would the owner of the cat be willing to bell their cat? I chase naughty Bella from next door away & I have been known to spray her with the hose (water pipe). I have heard that laying down cayenne pepper keeps all beasties away, the scent is too much for them. My only concern on that is that if one did get it on their paws it would burn their mouth &/or eyes. There is a marketed product Critter Ridder, but I have had no luck with it. My birdbath has lots of shrubs & tree close by for quick retreats. I hope this helps & good luck keeping your birds safe.

  2. This is such a great opportunity for those of us in the UK to have a look at birds and animals we wouldn't usually see

  4. Wonderful! I don't think we've ever seen that many birds on our bird bath, but it's a swinging one, so maybe that's the issue.

    1. Oh a swinging bird bath - I just have visions of the squirrels on it - now that would be some SNAP collection.

    1. My friend gets a Rose Breasted Grosbeak who is SO colourful & his wife is the dullest of browns. I know it is all about the camouflage of sitting on the nest.

  7. Oh Mr Yellow Finch, that is quite a harem you have there. I think it is your bird bath that is swinging! What a lovely sight to see over coffee. Not a day for an outdoor cuppa here, unfortunately, but I can see the birds through the French windows.

    1. There are moments & days where my bird bath is the bomb, it happens all in the water (lol). I have a second bird bath which I need to start watching to see who visits there.
