Memorandum Monday: October 24th
Linking in with the other Monday Memo writers who are updating us on all the newest things seen, done & heard, through our hostess, Sian, at: From High In The Sky
Hopefully as everyone is reading what is new from the patio, Mr Man will be coming out of a successful eye surgery. Thank you all for your kind thoughts & prayers.
It is a new bag of peanuts for feeding the Blue Jays. You can look out on the patio & see not a sign of any bird activity, then throw the peanuts out & even before the first peanut hits the patio, there are dozens of squawking Blue Jays. The cats love bird theatre! Oh yes & look who also turns up - a very wet Charlie!
New on the baking front, I have found a recipe for Maple Shortbread (Canadian Living magazine) & while I have not yet baked them, I have a new maple leaf cookie cutter, a new jug of fresh Quebec 100% pure maple syrup, along with a new roll of parchment paper already for a day this week of baking. This will do nicely as a treat before the traditional Christmas goodies get made.
On Friday & Saturday I had renewed energy for the clearing out of cupboards & closets, which has seen me take a huge black bag of clothes to the charity shops. I think some of this energy is due to nervousness about today's surgery. Still it feels good to tidy & sort, not only clothes, but crafting paper, which I will be donating to the local kindergarten class. Even the food cupboards got a clear out. I really do not need to have 10 cans of cream of mushroom soup!
The fur girls received a new box that has been entertaining them for hours. I love how they share all new adventures together.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead; one that is filled with new adventures, stories & connection.
I can only imagine the feeding frenzy when you offer up peanuts for the blue jays. I hope your husband is recovering well! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteRecovery is now on. The Jays now sit outside the bathroom window & STARE in "hey lady, we're hungry out here, forget the make up - not working anyway!" At least that is what the look says to me (lol);
DeleteStopped and said a prayer for Mr. Man's successful surgery and speedy complete recovery. I am betting maple shortbread cookies would speed that along - they sound fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susanne for the prayers. Maple shortbread being made this week.
Deletehope all went well with the surgery. I love your bluejays and the idea of bird theatre when they are not having fun in a box. Have a good week
ReplyDeleteThanks Helena. Bird Theatre has some star players & it changes seasonally. Late Autumn & Winter it is the Blue Jays, summer time it is the chipmunks & squirrels.
DeleteHere's to a quick and pain-free recovery for Mr. Man! Your maple cookies sound wonderful. Our neighbor gifted us with a packaged cookie from Montreal several months ago. They were chocolate with a maple frosting. Every time we go to Niagara-on-the-Lake I look for them in the grocery store, but have yet to find them. They did not last long!
ReplyDeleteKaren I will check out the grocery stores around here for those cookies - is there a name on the package? Montreal is such a vibrant & unique city. Thank you for the well wishes for Mr Man. Other than a small bruise under the eye - no outward signs - pain is managed with Tylenol.
DeleteHope Mr Man is home now and recovering well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo of the birds and the squirrel.
Thanks Deb. Mr Man is home - he cannot lay down, he has to keep his head down for 7 days - not a comfortable position & difficult for sleeping.
DeleteMaple shortbread! Post the recipe if it is good although I suspect maple syrup is cheaper there than it is here. Good luck with the eye op to your man
ReplyDeleteIf the cookies turn out as promised by the recipe, I will share the recipe. Maple syrup is expensive but probably not as bad as shipping it overseas. Some of the best syrup is made in Quebec.
DeleteI saw a jay in my garden last week - quite different from yours but I thought of you. Have fun using that cutter and most importantly of all I hope that the surgery sees (literally) an end to all the problems.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lady Ella. Mr Man turns out is an easy bleeder so a few complications during surgery but they knew right away what to do & fix. He has a gas bubble in the end to hold the lazer stitching off the lens, so he has to keep his head down for 7 days - awkward position & sleeping has to be upright. First check up today (Tues) & everything looks good - he's a quick healer.
DeleteHope your hubby is recovering well.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a Jay in a while ... I'd follow your advice but the bears might eat all the nuts lol
The Blue Jays swoop & dive in so quickly there is not much time to share with the squirrels or chipmunks. Chipmunks stay 100% in their tunnels during the winter & cold. Mr Man is recovering, a few hurdles to overcome but a great surgical team.
DeleteI hope all went well with hubby's surgery, lovely to see the blue jays and squirrel.
ReplyDeleteBlue jays love peanuts out west too!! I would love your maple shortbread recipe!! Headed north of the border tomorrow to reinforce my cupboards with Canadian favourites!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that it has taken me this long to get gathered and come to add my good wishes to the rest. I hope by now that his recovery is progressing well and that you are both enjoying a little time together as he gets better
ReplyDeleteI bet those cookies were delicious. Your fur babies are beautiful!
