New from the patio this week?
The gorgeous crochet tree was made by my blogging coach & inspiration, Lady Ella.

At the scheduled 1 month Tuesday appointment for Mr Man's eye it was determined that further surgery was required immediately (immediate was a loose term). When the gas bubble that was inserted into the eye after the last surgery, finally disappeared (Saturday) there was nothing holding back the over zealous healing from the 1st surgery & it pulled the retina away. Mr Man did not previously have a detached retina but now he did. Immediate surgery was scheduled for Thursday morning; we had to be there at the hospital for 7:00am & they would slot him in when they could. Thankfully that was 9:00am. This go around he does not have to keep his head down for 7 days because they put in a new stronger denser gas bubble to sit at the top of the eye where the detachment is. Our drive home from Toronto (I was the driver) was during the start of the first of 2 storms that hit Thursday. It was a scary horrible drive. So many white outs, which is like driving blinded by a bag of flour someone just dumped on your windscreen. Anyway once home I gave many thanks for a safe passage. We were up the next morning at 4am for another 7:00am appointment in Toronto. The drive was less than great but not as bad as the day before. So another 6-7 weeks off work to heal & recover. The one week follow up appointment is Thursday, so another early rising & hopefully no more snow!
Speaking of new fresh fallen snow, on Saturday we got another 20cm of snow & it meant we needed to get the driveway cleared but Mr Man is not allowed to do this kind of activity & I certainly couldn't handle all of two storm's snow. So new for us, we had to hire someone to push/blow the snow off the driveway & onto the lawn area. A new type of entry into the accounting books.
As a fund raiser our local cat rescue, Cats Anonymous, offers in-home kitty nail clipping, which we gladly booked. The ladies make it look so easy to do. While it does not hurt them, the idea of being held tightly by a stranger has Sooty & Smokey now spending the last two days spitting & growling at each other. Tish & Julie brought them little cat nip stockings as an introduction & bribe.
To try & cheer up Mr Man, Sunday I made eggnog pancakes & cut them into stars ...
I hope everyone has a stress free week in the run up to Christmas Day. Happy Christmas to all.

good to hear progress on the eye - and that you managed the drive through the storms - what a lot of snow to have to move off the drive. Fabulous crochet tree. Have a great week and fabulous Christmas
ReplyDeleteThanks Helena, we are hoping that this Thursday's appt is without more snow added to the drive - I think it will be the day of the big exit from work for Christmas day. !
DeleteOh dear, sorry he and you had to go through that ordeal. Hopefully he can heal completely now, and all shall be well. Wishing you warm and happy holidays, (and now I am headed off to find a recipe for eggnog pancakes, sounds delish!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Susanne. Eggnog (commercially made in the container) was added rather than the usual amounts of milk - very easy but does make for a tad more sweet than usual.
DeleteBlogging coach? You don't need me!!
ReplyDeleteOh no poor Mr Man, what a saga - and just when the weather is at its worst and free time at its scarcest. Fingers crossed that this time the op will be successful, and short term no more long drives in treacherous conditions.
(I'd forgotten about that tree. Thanks for using it - it looks nice against the calendar.)
We really like our crocheted tree & it gets moved into many scenes! I think I may even do a scrap page about the "lost week".
DeleteGosh: you have been having a time of it! I'm sending you very best wishes for this week and some rest and relaxation for you both over the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sian. I am looking forward to mornings that do not have to start at 4am.
DeleteWhat a week you've had!!! I hope this recovery is much quicker and smoother than the last one! Also hope you have some time to rest up before the holiday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen. I am being ever so strict & bossy about his recovery this time - I am leaving nothing to chance (or his boredom).
DeleteGoodness! What a time for Mr Man and you. I hope it works after all that effort. Nice treat for the kitties. My three don't get such luxuries. They have to find a tree to perform a self manicure!
ReplyDeleteThe fur girls did not enjoy this needed treat. They have many many scratching posts in the house but when they start to stick to the carpet I know it's time to do that little bit extra of nail trimming. Someone else to do - yes please, donation? no problem - win win
DeleteGosh, you and Mr Man have gone through a lot lately!
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope the new year is kinder to the both of you!
Have a wonderful Christmas!
That little crocheted tree is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI do pray that Mr. Man's eye heals quickly, perfectly, and painlessly this time!!!
Merry Christmas!! It's been a FUN week here as we had an unexpected visit from my niece. Total relaxation day today as I wait for Robbie to get off work for the holiday! :)
Sorry to hear about your husband's eye troubles. Stressful snow driving is the worst! I'm not much of a driver to begin with. I only drive close to home and leave trips to the city to my husband. Good for you for hiring out snow removal. You guys get the wet heavy stuff. I remember it well from growing up in Montreal. In Alberta it is light and fluffy.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought on seeing the crocheted Christmas tree was, "Lady Ella made one that looked very similar!", as I had seen one on her blog! (Yes, I read her blog from the beginning, too, before I started on yours!)
