This week my wandering about the garden I was looking up a lot. Looking up for that woodpecker, where is he? Looking up at the noisy agitated squirrel fighting with the crows, I think the crows took the peanuts that Charlie was carrying. Looking up at my trees & I noticed the healing of old wounds. Several winters ago, just 3 days before Christmas, (4 years this December coming), we had a major icy storm that not only took out the power for several days & for others for several weeks. But the ice was several inches thick on everything & the weight of the ice snapped & broke many branches. Every time I look at the wounds of our trees I marvel at how hardy they have been & quickly recovered & continue to grow & provide us with lots of summer shade & home for squirrels & birds. Thank you Mother Nature ...

Advice from a tree; stand tall & proud; ground yourself with the earth; be content with your natural beauty; go out on a limb; drink plenty of water; enjoy your roots; enjoy the view. I. Shamir
What a cheering thought: go out on a limb but enjoy your roots. I like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I constantly marvel at nature.
DeleteAre the trees actually in your garden or are they the boundary? I wish I had room for big trees like yours. I'm not jealous, honestly xx
ReplyDeleteYes Eileen these trees are in our yard. Trees that are big enough to provide shade is a treasure & I feel blessed to have them. Our entire neighbourhood (estate) is surrounded by protected re-forestation lands & lots of farmer's crop fields.
DeleteInteresting selection. The wounds are so dynamic! From the long gashes I can just imagine it was ice that did the damage. I don't recall seeing too many woody scars like that on my wanderings.
ReplyDeleteSuper quote.
When this particular ice storm hit,the weight of the ice not only broke the branches but ripped them off, it was a very sad day. Our region & province were very hard hit with tree damaged, some lost entire trees so we were lucky that only branches were down. Trees have a lot to teach us. :)
DeleteYou've found the perfect quote to accompany this encouraging post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, I did mean it to be encouraging because I find Nature amazing in its ability to recover even the most devastation of events. It's the good time about the internet, the ability to find quotes :)
DeleteHello! A delightful post and so different...I really appreciate your perspective on the trees...and as Karen said, the quote is perfect...also, good to connect with you via Mail,Memo Me...and I did so enjoy your NSD output. Impressive and great to look at.
ReplyDeleteCheers~
Bonjour Honore - thank you for visiting. Trees are a big favourite of mine. My favourite place to wander (walk) is in the woods.
DeleteThe wounds make great patterns. It's refreshing to have a looking up perspective.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maggie. Sometimes I do spend a fair amount of time looking up in the trees trying to figure out what is that sound, what kind of bird but once all the leaves come in on the trees, the view is definitely different.
