SPSH - Some of The Final Finds

Here are a few of my final finds.  I think this year I am particularly happy with my dial & dome finds, although getting everything on the list was a challenge, Mr Man & I had fun with the list.

#22 Dial - this was photo I captured while we were sitting at a set of traffic lights & a very large fire truck pulled up beside us - I couldn't believe all the dials they, the fire persons, have to operate.

#13 Dome - this find was at the university - it is called (or so the sign said) a geodesic dome.  We don't have a lot if any domed buildings ...

Nothing Is As Planned

It seems that our latest two hires at the clinic have decided it is too much for them.  On the same day within hours of each other, our newest hired physio therapist quit & then the latest receptionist decided it was too busy for her.

I will be absent from blogging for a few days as I will be focused on replacements for the clinic.

Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday September 18th

 

 Good morning beautiful people.

A very light check in this morning. Nothing to report on the memo or mail side of my life.

As for me, I am hoping that our new hire is able to work on her own, without me as her hovering help. Her first shift is Tuesday. I will be at the dentist at lunch time on Tuesday, so of no practical use to anyone then! My fingers are crossed.

I had two very enthusiastic helpers with Autumn/Thanksgiving decorating.

I am preparing for Autumn's official arrival this Friday; in our part of the world, she arrives at 4:02pm, so I can be in the garden with tea in hand to greet her.  It is also Bilbo & Frodo's birthday on Friday.  There will be cake & of course we'll be watching The Fellowship of The Ring.

I am reading Grief Cottage; there are a couple of characters that I like, not overall loving ... but nothing is going to come close to my best read ... The Thirteenth Tale.  I'll say no more.

Monday is the perfect day to correct last week's mistakes & it seems like a fresh start to dig in & begin a new journey of success.

Take Three Thursday - Abracadabra

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.  
The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in. What have you noticed this week?

This week was my own creating of cards & in particular that I have ventured into stamping - that's right me, I'm stamping, I'm making that commitment to paper of an image!  I attended a workshop for the crafting of these cards.  Not only was the instructor very helpful & confident in my ability to stamp, a couple of the other regular participants were on hand for little experienced tidbit sharing.  I have signed up for another workshop in October.

I created these three:

The first card is a combination of using a punch (cat) & stamping the jar, water, fish & phrase, then the stamped fish is highlight by using a metal diecut - the inside of the card has 3 stamped fish which was intended to be only one first, but the other 2 are covering up a little over zealous-ness use of ink ... it was a very interesting way to stamp & highlight the water in the jar.  I think I wanted the cat to have a face but the instructor says that the cat is looking at the fish in the jar, so we are seeing the back of the cat.

 The second card is again a technique of die cutting & stamping.  The background is stamped on using a grid template & a finger dauber.  I was assured that this the easiest method.  I chose to stamp some falling leavings & then on top two die cut leaves, one of which I backed with a solid die cut leaf; stamping the phrase, which had me thinking that it was wrong, but the stamp is made to put the phrase at an off angle.  Inside I stamped leaves in opposite corners.  Oh yes, the finishing with a metallic ribbon & bow.

 The third card was the most involved of stamping, glittering, & embossing with a small die cut deer.  The trees are die cut from glitter paper, very sparkly; all those snowflakes are individually stamped so it was time consuming.  The phrase of Peace on Earth is first stamped, then sprinkled with embossing powder, a shake off of extra & heat is applied which puffs up the words.  The snow mounds are free hand cutting.  Inside is a row of stamped snowflakes with glitter powder to highlight.  Phew such stress with so many techniques.

One Google source says Abracadabra is an old Herbrew phrase meaning "I create"   Dan Brown, the author says the word is derived from the Aramaic phrase, avrah kadavrah, which translated means “I create as I speak.” 

Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday September 11th

Good morning all.  I hope that everyone had a wonderful week & weekend.

On the memo front, Mr Man had an appointment at the big hospital in Toronto on Friday & he will have to begin another 6-7 treatments that involve an injection into the eye.No reason for why he has bleeding behind the eye (again).  He's been through this treatment before BUT a memo has been sent to our local eye specialist that gives permission for the eye injections to be done at the local clinic.  We just need to receive confirmation that it can be done.  It would save so much travel time & anxiety.  The treatments are spaced out at 6 week intervals, so with winter coming, we have all our possible body parts crossed that Dr Bob says yes - driving on winter roads to/from Toronto are not how either of us want to spend time.  This was one of my brave activities ...

Drive Into Toronto - A Dark & Rainy Morning

The weather continues to be a prime topic for radio, TV & discussions.  The world seems to be in the midst of fire, the shakes, wind & water - yeah it does sound just like a list of symptoms listed on that menopause brochure we have in the waiting room at work!  Massive out of control forest fires are still raging & growing in our western provinces.  Mexico was not only hit with a massive earth quake but a hurricane.  Several Caribbean island have been totally destroyed & several southern states in the US of A are heavily damaged by 3 hurricanes in a row; Harvey, Irma & Jose.  Prayers for all affected by Mother Nature's mood swings.

And speaking of weather, as it turns cooler locally, I see evidence of change in the farmers fields of soy & in my own garden.  Sunday we had big clear blue skies & lots of sunshine.

I cannot find any explanation as to why my white roses, Glamis Castle, always get red sprinkle spots on the last flowers of the season.  It's not an insect & it's not a mold.  I wonder if it is "reflecting" back to it's root stock breeding.

 On the mail front there should have been lots of cards wishing Mr Man a happy birthday, but he forbids anyone to celebrate, mention or wish him a happy birthday.  He's always been like this, hates his own birthday but takes great joy in celebrating mine.  We did go out for a special brunch but it was not a birthday celebration.

Oh yes, another memo piece ... on Thursday at 4pm one of the latest hires sent me, by email, her resignation; when her shift was done at 5pm, she was done - no working any notice! She found a job that is 40 hours & pays more.  She knew when she was hired this role was & would always be part time.  Talk about timing,  I had popped into the clinic just as she sent - she was rather surprised because she was uncomfortable facing me knowing she wasn't giving any notice.  What could I do or say but wish her success in her new job.  Thankfully someone contacted me directly within the hour to express interest in applying.  I interviewed Friday, new person starts Monday.

Monday please be good to me, I have high hopes that the start of the work week is a good one ...

As I go for my walks about the neighbourhood this week what I have noticed, since the kids have gone back to school, is the array of condition for the basketball nets.  I thought about using one of these photos for the PSH - toy found outside June-September, except these are left out all year.  

This net is set in cement so it won't be going any where & most of the time there are 2-3 cars parked in the driveway making a full on game rather difficult.

This net is also set in cement but the net has been missing for at least 3-4 years.

This one has been laying on its side for over a week now - maybe a feeling of the owner having to return to school & its routine.

I can honestly say I have seen only once, at one of these nets, a game of hoop shooting & I walk about the neighbourhood a lot & at different times.  I am not sure why such an expensive item is individually purchased & then left to, to .... decay, fall into dis-repair!  The local school has a really nice court, it is paved with court lines painted on & there are two hoops set up (nets intact)at either end of the court. It is also available for players all week, all year.  They even shovel the snow off it!   Ah maybe that's the rub, it's official & well presented.

BUT THIS is what is used all the time, all year, every day, every season, by boys or girls & there is one at almost every home - the hockey net!  Car! (if you're Canadian, you'll understand that).

5 in 5 On The Fifth - September's Emptiness

This month my 5 are all about the emptiness of a park we often visit.  Today when we took our tea to sit by the river, we noticed how empty the park seemed, even for early in the afternoon.  Only 24 hours ago the park was teeming with life & activity of all ages but today was the first day of the new school year.  I am sure that many of the families normally filling the park are collecting the little ones after school & heading off to the mall to purchase items on the school lists.

Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday September 4th

Gracious me, it's the first Monday of a new month & it feels by the weather change, like the first of a new season.  Night time temperatures are hovering at about 6 (C) 42 (F).  It's too soon!  

In Canada we are celebrating today as a paid day off work - Labour Day & then tomorrow, Tuesday, the little darlings return for a new school year.  It is the second most wonderful time of the year!

Which reminds me to put in a note about the final link for the seasonal photo scavenger hunt (SPSH) - it's Sunday September 30th.  I do hope everyone has had fun with the list.  Please let us all have a peek at what you found, whether it was 1 or 10 or 25 of the items, it was/is all about getting out & having fun.

I have been giving this a lot of thought in regards to the direct "fearful" things in my own life & as things in the world are reaching very tense moments. 

Even though things in the garden are winding down, there is still a certain lushness about it.  I am so relieved & pleased that the garden where the new fence was installed early in the season, grew & flourished in spite of those big work boots trampling about.

 
On the mail front, I received the course catalogue for several schools' night classes on offer;  funny not one of them offers Transfiguration ...  

Reading;  while I still had the chance I re-read, The Thirteenth Tale & again I cannot say enough about this book.  When I returned this one to the library (reluctantly) I picked up my latest request, The Blinds. 

I hope everyone has a marvelous week ahead.  May I suggest that we all do one brave & fearless thing this week.
