Take Three Thursday: The Good, Bad & Fallen + 1
In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.
The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment, by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in. What have you noticed this week?
Have a peek at what Eileen has found at: A Bracelet of Days
As I go for my walks about the neighbourhood this week what I have noticed, since the kids have gone back to school, is the array of condition for the basketball nets. I thought about using one of these photos for the PSH - toy found outside June-September, except these are left out all year.
This net is set in cement so it won't be going any where & most of the time there are 2-3 cars parked in the driveway making a full on game rather difficult.
This net is also set in cement but the net has been missing for at least 3-4 years.
This one has been laying on its side for over a week now - maybe a feeling of the owner having to return to school & its routine.
I can honestly say I have seen only once, at one of these nets, a game of hoop shooting & I walk about the neighbourhood a lot & at different times. I am not sure why such an expensive item is individually purchased & then left to, to .... decay, fall into dis-repair! The local school has a really nice court, it is paved with court lines painted on & there are two hoops set up (nets intact)at either end of the court. It is also available for players all week, all year. They even shovel the snow off it! Ah maybe that's the rub, it's official & well presented.
BUT THIS is what is used all the time, all year, every day, every season, by boys or girls & there is one at almost every home - the hockey net! Car! (if you're Canadian, you'll understand that).
Never seen a hockey net! Not a 'domestic' one ... I like your hoops in their various conditions, though the fallen-over one is a tad sad.
ReplyDeleteThe kids play road hockey all year, in the snowless months they will use a ball rather than a puck. Even though many of these kids play ice hockey on a team on the ice, on their off time, they will continue to play hockey in the streets & call "car" when someone comes driving along, it seems they all know instinctively to move the net(s) wait for the car to go by & then resume the game.
DeleteI'm pretty sure I'd walk by these without thinking about them or their condition, so I think your project is working out well!
ReplyDeleteBasketball nets seem to quickly loose their appeal, I don't understand why but I think it's a lot of money spent on a ignore "toy".
DeleteI've never seen a home based hockey net either. Is that ice hockey?
ReplyDeleteIt is all about ice hockey & kids from a very early age learn to play road hockey which is played with a ball in the snowless months. In the winter it's the normal to see at least 5-6 kids playing on each street. Surprisingly these kids also probably play on a team - many live, breathe ice hockey. All my brothers played & I spent hours in cold hockey arenas but thankfully Mr Man is content to watch a game or two on tv.
DeleteInteresting theme - love the different hoops. We once thought of buying one for our grandson - new ones were ridiculously expensive - we found a good used one by driving around looking for ones that looked unused anymore and made a deal.
ReplyDeleteThat was a good solution. I often wonder why the parents buy, wouldn't you wait to see if there was any interest?
DeleteOur neighbors have a hoop in their back driveway & I do see their kids (& some neighbors) out there occasionally.
