The SPSH list was published last week. I hope that you all join in with one or all that you find on this fun quest. I have already printed my list off with notes of what & where I can find items on the list. If you missed, the list.
2018 SPSH List
After such a cold start to spring, we have finally got the patio set up & oh it is such a delight to have morning tea there. All my pots of flowers are planted & my tomato plants in. We are still on a quest for a water feature.
My Hellebores have bloomed & I am most surprised that mine have flowers quite upright on the stems ... does this mean mine are mutant?! No matter, I am just pleased that the wild bunnies did not get either of them over the winter.
On Saturday the farmer behind us sprayed the Winter Wheat with a herbicide that required as to stay indoors for a couple of hours while the spray settled. It smelt horrible but I know necessary.
And speaking of war on insects & the like, my little forest of Asiatic Lilies (pink) is growing rapidly but as soon as I see one of the nasty horrible invading red Japanese Lily bugs, I spray with insecticidal soap & if the spray bottle isn't close at hand, I keep two flat stones close by for squishing the little buggers. I use to have another grouping but I was lax in my war on the beetle & they destroyed it & now this grouping is a last stand.
Ordering tickets for Man of La Mancha - this is the only musical that Mr Man likes. We have seen before but this one is at a new to us theatre.
I hope that no matter where you are, you get a moment or two to savour the day, I know I'll be having a cup or two in my happy place - the patio.
What a lovely patio to spend time on - how lovely to see that spring has arrived for you.
ReplyDeleteMy hellebores definitely aren't as upright as yours, it always seems a shame that the lovely flowers point towards the earth - you are lucky!
Already thinking about what I can take pictures of for the photo hunt!
Thanks Deb, I certainly can loose track of time when I'm on the patio.
DeleteYour patio is lovely! I love the look onto your yard in the last photo. We had dinner on our patio last night. Tracy's busy with multiple projects in our yard, so our fountain is still not set up. It took us several years to find one we liked (and could afford.) Happy hunting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. The last photo is a couple years old but the view is still the same. I cannot believe how expensive so of the moving water fountains are.
DeleteThat is a beautiful patio! Isn't the weather incredible right now? Full on summer. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn. Amazing how quickly we go into heat & humidity. The pots of flowers were very thirsty tonight & with no rain forecasted we had to turn the hose on.
DeleteLove my patio too, but need to find something to keep the wasps away. Any suggestions anyone?
ReplyDeleteChris we use the fake wasp nest, one in the front by the front door & one in the back garden near the patio, it seems to do the trick. You can get the fake wasp nest at Canadian Tire ($12+) or Dollarama ($1.25) which is the ones we use, cheap to replace. I was also given the glass wasp catcher, the bottom is open so the wasp flies up but cannot fly out.
DeleteHooray for spring's arrival at last! Enjoy your patio Mary-Lou!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lady Ella. I have stocked up on anti misquotes candles so that the mornings & evenings are bug & bite free :)
DeleteYour garden looks lovely and such a nice relaxing place to spend your morning.
ReplyDeleteI too am battling those darn lily beetles...for the last 3 years...but I am persistent to the point of obsession, lol. I just keep picking them and their larva off of the plants.
I also get obsessive checking several times a day, but 3pm seems to be their prime time in my garden, it's when I kill the most. It is disgusting that the larva is in their own poop!
DeleteYour patio is wonderful! I love that curved border.
ReplyDeleteI love Man of La Mancha, but I'd be afraid I'd sing along if I were to see it in person ;)
