Five In Five On The 5th

Joining in with Sandie's Five in Five On The Fifth at: Sandie At Itchifingers

My five this month are from a walk about in a river side garden in the town of Fergus.  We were there scouting out the "perfect" find for one of the items on the SPSH.  We noticed that the gardens have been through a clean up & addition of several artist pieces.  It was quite a chilly walk as the temperatures have taken a dip, but the sun was out & the sound of the river below made for an enjoyable walk.  It was also nice that other than us & a fisherman in the river, there was no one about.  I do hope you go have a peek at what Sandie & others have as their 5.

  1. That looks an interesting walk and garden Mary-Lou. The perfect location for 5 in 5. Thank you for taking part this month, it’s always good to see your post.

    1. Thanks Karen. It has really improved over the years, I think there has been some fund raising done to improve the flower beds & encourage the high school students to do their 44 hours of required volunteer work.

    2. Well, I like the idea that school kids should be required to volunteer somewhere. I can see all kinds of benefits in that idea!

    3. Lady Ella in Ontario high students must complete the 44 hours (or is it 40) of volunteer work before they can graduate from high school. Several other provinces are moving into the direction, not sure which.

  3. Wish I lived closer to Fergus (I'm in Toronto) as I would love to see the gardens and sculptures.

    1. Fergus is having a downtown revival of sorts, we saw several new shops & one store that has a cafe at the back of the store overlooking the gardens & river. The gardens are small, not more that a 15 minute stroll through. Fergus hosts The Highland Games in August - it's a huge event, now that is worth the drive!

  4. What a lovely garden, especially with all those sculpures. Is this somewhere you visit often?

    1. We have visited often but I think it's been a year since we last wandered the gardens. We were told that there are now 17 art installations throughout Fergus, so once the weather warms up a bit we would like to return for a stroll to find all 17 pieces. With all the new plantings I'd like to see what's blooming in July.

  5. What a lovely park, and I always like seeing outdoor sculpture in public places.

    1. It is rather a pretty spot & takes advantage of the river with several spots for looking out over the river. We didn't go down it, but there's a stone staircase down to the river.

  6. An interesting selection of sculptures. I do like the combination of a nice garden and a sculpture trail

    1. Some of Fergus' sculptures include those made from the tree stumps of fallen trees.

  7. Now I'm wondering what picture you were hunting for! Looks like a very interesting place to visit.

    1. Deb I was looking for "framed view" & this garden, I think, I has a perfect framed view of the river. Fergus is a town trying hard to hang onto its Scottish history & still offer the modern life for families of 2018. They boast, that outside of Scotland, they host a Highland games as the largest in Canada (I've seen it said biggest in North America).
