Me On A Monday June 11th

Gracious Me It's Monday Again! - Didn't that week go fast?

As part of our Trains, Boats & Automobile Summer Manifesto, this past weekend we did the boats part.

Along with some friends we took a lunch time cruise on the Grand River.  It was not what I expected.  The actual boat was smaller than I had envisioned, but that was OK, it meant that there wasn't a large group of people on board.

Prior to departure there was a welcoming reception of tea/coffee & muffin & a 30 minute performance from The Blazing Fiddles.  When does a violin become a fiddle?   They were quite a lively group.

There are 3 boats; The Queen, The Princess & The Belle.  This Saturday, The Belle was for a private party celebrating a family event; The Princess was for a teacher's year end celebration & our boat, The Queen was made up of individuals or smaller groups like us.

The deck around the boat was very narrow.  The speed was quite slow.  Being that it was covered we were able to enjoy the breeze without getting wet.

There was very little scenery to be had.  A rather overcast, with some light rain day.

The part of the river that we were on, ran mostly through the Six Nations Reserve.   Six Nations of the Grand River

The lunch meal was quite good & they were able to accommodate my vegetarian needs.  Mr Man had the roast beef lunch & he said it was quite tender & tasty.  Our friends both had the chicken lunch.  Freshly made that morning, bread to start with, which we bought a loaf to take home with us, & homemade apple pie for dessert.  The captain of our boat, The Queen, kept up a running commentary through the 3 hour cruise; he thought himself the comic - he was not.  I was able to get an item done from the SPSH list, an unexpected reflection.

I had mentioned that last Thursday was our anniversary, we bought ourselves three hanging patio lanterns, these run on batteries which means when we go through the often village power outages, we'll have another source of light for inside.  One hanger stand has two of the lanterns with 1 hanging plant & the other hanger has 2 plants & 1 lantern.

I made two cards this week; the cat birthday card is for a friend who is also a cat lover.  The other is the card I made for Mr Man for our anniversary (it's on the right).  He's also a cat lover.  He bought me the most beautiful worded card.

Not sure how much our provincial elections made the world news, but we went to the polls on Thursday to elect the Premier of Ontario.  The majority of the polls closed at 9pm (two stayed open until 9:30p because of electronic difficulties) but by 9:20pm Doug Ford of the PC party (Progressive Conservatives) was declared the winner with a majority win.  That is the fastest I have ever seen a winner announced.  The party currently in power, The Liberals, lead by Kathleen Wynne did not gain enough votes to retain official party status!

And my final update is regarding my sister, who has been in hospital since breaking her leg (femur) in April.  At the fracture clinic they took an x-ray of the mended leg & hip, all is healing well but still another 6 weeks before she can put weight on it, so it was decided that she could rest at home & then return to hospital  once the all clear is given, when she will begin physio & learning to walk again.  It has been an incredibly long road for her.  The surgeon said this repair has been in the making since the original accident many years ago.  The drunk driver that hit her was never caught in spite of several witnesses.

Hope everyone has a delightful week.

  1. Pleased to hear that your sister is gradually mending and I hope she continues to rest and recover. How can anyone live with themselves after committing a hit and run accident?
A lucky photo capture on your boat trip - well done! I managed to tick of 'field of plenty' at the weekend when we went strawberry picking - that's four done now!

    1. Deb you are really tackling this SPSH - I have in my mind's eye what I want for each item, but trying to find. I haven't posted any of my photos yet, I'll wait for the round up end of June. My sister is most looking forward to having access to her big screen TV again at home!

    1. I don't think Jenn I would do again, although I imagine the sunset cruises would be good, just too far for us to drive again. Glad we tried :)

  3. What a long recovery process for your sister! I'm glad she's able to go home. It's often very hard to get serious rest in a hospital. Your lanterns are gorgeous, and your cards so much fun!

    1. I know when I was in hospital a few weeks ago, sleep at night was next to impossible, so much going on with the nurses ... The kitty stamps are getting the most use, but it took me at least 3 tries to get clean full detail stamped kitties, glad I bought that Tim Holtz stamp assist.

  4. There's nothing quite like a riverboat cruise, and I kinda like the view from yours even though it was a dreary day. The lanterns look like the perfect addition to a patio. I like the way you combined them with the plants. Nice! I'm glad your sister is on the road to recovery. Such a long time before she can put weight on it!

    1. While the river cruise was less than spectacular, I still enjoyed. The lanterns throw quite a bit of light at night, which is nice. My sister's long recovery is in part that she waited 3 weeks before getting medical attention. She has been a lesson of how not to handle accidents.

    2. It can be hard to know when it's ok to wait out an injury. Some of us tend to try to push that envelope, but I'm glad she's headed towards being back up and around.

  5. Good news on sis. I too like the lanterns. Shame the cruise was a bit of a disappointment. Sunset foes sound nice though.

    1. I was so glad we did not waffle on the lanterns, they are all sold out now at the store, even in the other colours. I'm not sure how my friends felt about the cruise, they were all smiles but I think that was so as not to hurt my organizing feelings (col).

  6. Boat trips can be a bit disappointing. It is so low down for views and photos. They are often cramped and so slow. You can see I'm not over whelmed by boat trips!

    1. I have been other river cruises that ticked more boxes than this one. I will say at least it wasn't crowded so that made for quieter lunch table conversations & moving about on the deck. Glad we tried, but I just don't think a return visit is on my list.

  7. I love being on a boat, so relaxing - too bad your cruise was disappointing. We will be taking a dinner cruise on Lake Ontario in July.

    1. I too like being on a boat, especially sailboats. We have done The 1000 Island cruise & it was spectacular, it ticked all the boxes for me. I've heard that the Toronto Island dinner cruise is quite popular - the fun boat!
