This year's Summer Manifesto was themed with Planes, Trains & Automobiles + Boats. The boat portion I wrote about in this post:
Summer Manifesto - Boats
The Automobiles (drive) portion was that we drove to two places I had wanted to tour for several years now.
The first one was the Hindu Temple just outside of Toronto, BAPS Shir Swaminarayan Mandir. It was spectacular. The grounds had beautiful, full & well tended gardens. Inside was breathe taking architecture. In the temple area, (pictured below) not a single screw or nail is used, all the stone, marble & granite fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. In the other areas it is teak & mahogany woods (all building codes adhered to). There is a large museum telling the history of Hinduism; fascinating. We were allowed to take part in one of the morning rituals - such a welcoming group.
The second drive out was to Paris, Ontario
The Planes portion of our Summer Manifesto was more a Mr Man adventure than mine, as anything to do with planes has me in a near panic attack mode. Still I pursued with him. I focused on the history of each plane, the details, kept in close as to detach from the flight ideas. The highlight of the demonstrations was the B29 plane. This plane is the type that delivered the H-bomb to Japan in WWII, which was one of the ways in ending WWII. You could purchase tickets to be one of the 10 "guests" onboard for a half hour flight. Ticket prices started at $1800.00(USD). Thankfully Mr Man was not enticed ...

Don't forget SPSH link in on the 31st - next Friday
Oh, these all look like fabulous outings! Robbie would have enjoyed the planes, too.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that in the end we both enjoyed each other's pick for an adventure.
DeleteWe have a Hindu temple not too far from us, but I have never been, only seen on TV. How amazing that it was built only with traditional joinery. Beautiful! I will have to investigate the one near here and see if that is true there too.
ReplyDeleteI will have a further post for this temple visit, it was something on the list that turned out to be a "find" of interest to both of us.
DeleteThat temple is absolutely stunning - how lucky to be able to participate in a ritual there.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a place worth visiting & we both want to go again because now we know more we want to focus on a few items a little more closely.
DeleteWe've been to the Bahai Temple in Wilmette, but this looks even more imposing. The Bahai Temple is beautiful and the grounds are lovely, too. I've put this Hindu temple on our bucket list of places to go!
ReplyDeleteKaren not sure if you know that there's a temple in Chicago https://www.baps.org/Global-Network/North-America/Chicago.aspx
DeleteAll of them are just a bit different but all quite spectacular. That Bahai Temple is beautiful, I'd like to visit there. Thanks for sharing that info.

ReplyDelete"spectacular" sounds like the right word for that temple. I'd love to visit such a gorgeous building, and it sounds like an interesting experience to see all about the history and practice.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a surprise of how much we could take in. I'll have my Monday post with more photos & info :)
DeleteYou've packed a lot into your trips out and away! I am very admiring of your ability to enthuse about the planes - I am not sure I'd have been able to do it myself.
