Me On A Monday - 10 On December 10th

Ten on the 10th - my top ten things I love about Christmas

1. The reason for the season - baby Jesus.  I love the Christmas story even if it's unlikely Jesus was really born in December, I like that we take a season to celebrate the difference a baby can make.

2. Christmas Magic, the possibilities of those wishes coming true & of being delivered with love.

3.  The food.  All the special holiday treats, especially cookies so beautifully decorated, those stuffed filled squares, those munchies brought out only at this time of year & let's not forget those special creamy drinks

4. Eggnog - oh yes, so creamy so good, so rich, with or without the booze.  There's so many things you can add egg nog to, cake batter, cookies.

5. The music.  I love Christmas carols, especially the ones that I know the words to.  Oh Come All Ye Faithful is a favourite.

6.  Christmas movies.  Love always wins at Christmas.

7. Cards, I like receiving & I'm really liking my new found interest in making them to send to family & friends.

8. Father Christmas, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, Par Noel, - I like a guy that wants to bring you a beautifully wrapped gift, specially chosen for you.

9. The joy & friendliness that everyone conspires to be part of.

10. Lights, twinkle ones, candle light ones, multi coloured ones; on the tree, on the house

  1. The Christmas music would be top of my list, followed by films, food and the silent agreement of the adults to keep the magic going for the children.

    1. I think we adults need the magic of Christmas more than ever ... with all the controversy over some Christmas songs & now poor Rudloph the Red Nose "movie" & song are under attack - we adults are in my opinion loosing our way on Christmas & not even in a religious way either. A Mayor in B.C. Canada is opposing the Poinsettia now & has demanded all of them be removed from any government office. Too far

    2. Love your list, every entry!

I heard about "Baby It's Cold Outside" being removed from N American playlists, but what's wrong with Rudolph and poinsettias now? (Do I even want to know?) :o(

    3. Rudolph is bullied & that's wrong. Not 100% sure what the mayor on Vancouver Island is worked up about, but he doesn't like Christmas symbols of any kind (nothing to do with faith or nationality). It's too much, & if you (the royal you) don't like Pionsettias, don't buy one, don't like Rudolph don't listen or watch & really how come we can't ban some of those rap songs!?! Too much - we really are becoming snowflakes, we are melting on contact. OK off the soap box now :) FaLaLaLa LLLLAAAAA La Laaaa

    1. I had a first slice of my Christmas cake yesterday - I think it's the best. I have a recipe for pound cake with eggnog & glazed fruit - now that's a perfect combo - going to make that later this week.

  4. A great list of 'top ten' - I had heard of some songs being banned over there but fortunately that idea hasn't reached us yet! It feels like everything is being taken just a bit too seriously sometimes nowadays. Christmas should be lighthearted and fun, and a bit less commercialised than it has become. I shall continue to sing along to all the old favourites - even if some of the words and expressions have changed their meaning over the years!

    1. Thanks Deb. I'm with you about we need to lighten up, everything is offending everyone. This is the time of year when I really wish I could sing - I love the old carols.

  6. It's a great list. I'm not a fan of eggnog as a drink, but I do love it as a flavoring. One of my faves is a great Jello mold with eggnog, although I haven't made it in a long time.

    1. I have a recipe handed down to me that uses a "jello" mould but I don't have one, so I just use a bowl. I cannot believe how many people don't like eggnog.

  7. We have thick rich hot chocolate made with cream and real chocolate instead of eggnog. But my Mom loves eggnog and has it every year.

    1. I like hot chocolate but it does not like me & I've discovered this year that eggnog - even the light, less fat version - doesn't like me either. Going forward both are off my list. Really popular here is 1/2 hot chocolate 1/2 coffee - I've tried, tasty but a little goes a long way.
