Me On A Monday - January 25th

 Good Morning!

The following photo of the broken candle on my dining room table, is I think a good representation of how I am feeling right now.  Slightly off & a little bent out of shape, still functional, but definitely not at my best.  Such is lock down life.

I have no idea what happened to the candle - cats?

Congratulations to the mid section of Ontario, your schools get to re-open to in person classrooms.  Northern Ontario schools went back to in class learning last week.  We in the lower section of Ontario, with continually high new cases, hospitalizations & deaths are still on stricter lock down rules which includes a continuation of online learning.  Such is lock down life.

I recently have had two phone call appointments with my doctor for some on going issues with my ear(s).  The long & the short of it, was a very mild ear infection tickled some of those vestibular ear fibres & now I have vestibular vertigo.  I have a set of vestibular realignment exercises to do 3 times a day for the next 10 days.  All diagnosed over the phone because unless it's critical all appointments are Zoom or phone. Such is lock down life.

Because of the cold & stay at home orders, there really isn't a lot of things happening in my day to day right now.  Outdoor walks are short, to & from the mail box, with the occasional walk to the end of the driveway to pick up the packages of flyers thrown there every few days. What walking I do, is on the treadmill.  But a glimmer of better days to come as I've noticed the amount of day light hours are ever so slightly increasing, and the countdown to the first day of spring - about 45 days away. I also know not to confuse the first day of spring with the first spring like day; for us that is often another 30-45 days .  Who knows we might be out of lock down by then!

  1. Sorry to hear that the ear infection has left you with vertigo, that must be horrible. I do hope the exercises help things heal soon.
I'm like you, monitoring when sunrise and sunset show that we are gradually getting longer days. Let's hope that by spring we will be able to get out more to enjoy the extra daylight. Take care x

    1. My doctor sent me diagrams of what the little hairs in our ears are all about along with that fluid leveler in our ears. It was quite fascinating. It's only day 3 of the exercises & my doctor said it will take at least 10 days before I see any real improvements.

  2. I rad today that daylight is increasing by 2.5 minutes/day (I think that was it) and that the rate of increase will also increase.

    1. I'll take that 2.5 minutes a day of more daylight time. I read a book about things improving if even by 1% is a good thing, so 2.5 minutes of more sunlight, fewer bouts of vertigo & nausea each day from specific exercises is all good.

  3. I know how you feel - such is lock down life. There was some good news here over the weekend - our state, Indiana, is 2nd best in the USA for number of vaccines administered per capita! I was surprised at how fast they went from the 80+ age group to the 70+ one. They are doing everything by appointment - no massive first come first served events that I heard about in other states. I think slow and steady continuous progress is working best. Woo hoo! If we can make it to spring or Easter on April 4, then the worst will be behind us.

I do hope the exercises work to correct your ear problem, it would be no fun to have chronic struggles with that.

    1. I think the roll out of the vaccine is that glimmer of hope we all so desperately need right now.

  4. Sorry to read about your vertigo problems - that can't be nice at all.
    I'm sending you a virtual hug. :)

    1. Thanks for that hug, I had one of those days for the weekend. The vertigo with the nausea is making me a bit cranky. I have been drinking a fair amount of ginger hot water to combat that. Sitting helps, so great reason to sit & scrap!

  5. I hope you're feeling better soon. I have noticed that is lighter now both on my way to and from work. Hopefully it won't be too long until you feel better and it will be light enough to take longer walks.

    1. I just need the wind to stop blowing so much, I'm rather cautious with my ear(s) right now, hat or not. I need to get a snugger hat that fits tight around my ears to keep the wind & cold out. More light, especially sunshine will do me a world of good.

  6. The vertigo must be horrible and I feel for you. I hope it clears up quickly.

Are you still listening to Dr Campbell's videos? He expresses concern about Canada from time to time.

    1. I also get very nauseous with the vertigo, so I hope it's fix/gone soon. Yes I still watch Dr Campbell's videos & today's he talked quite a bit about Canada. He seems to like a pharmacist from B.C., Lindsay & has had her as a guest a few times.

  7. I'm glad you could get help for the vertigo in a zoom dr visit. Those exercises ought to do the trick.

I have a couple of those beeswax candles. They are so soft, it might just have suffered an issue of structural integrity ;) and fallen over on its own lol

I find if so encouraging and mood-improving to see the days getting longer. Joy!

    1. I was told results from the exercises could take 10 days before I see any positive results, fingers crossed I'm one of those that these work for. It is a very soft candle, Mr Man hates them as they have glitter in them, he wants to throw out, broken or not. I think a walk outside will do wonders for my mood, it's just been so cold & windy & I'm reluctant to get any cold in my ear right now. This too shall pass.

    1. Thanks Chris, just one of those days when the news got to me. I know this lock down will ease, & I am most hopeful for a vaccine by the summer.

  9. Oh dear, vertigo is so awful! I've been through it a couple of times and it's not fun at all! Hope it's better soon. We've gotten out to walk around the neighborhood several times recently, but I doubt there'll be much of that in the next few days when an Arctic chill moves it.

    1. I think I am feeling improvements, slowly, in the vertigo. Yesterday I actually thought I felt the inner ear fluid moving. We got a lot of snow on Tuesday so waiting for the sidewalks to clear before attempting an outside walk.

  10. I'm sorry to hear about the vertigo and nausea. Hope the exercises will help and you'll feel better, soon. Wrap a ribbon around the break in the candle, tie a bow, and see if that will help it stand up straight. It can be a decorative repair! Sending you a virtual hug from California - apparently, we have our own variant of the virus, now!

    1. Bless I like your decorative repair idea. I think it's time to light the candles & use, no more saving for that special occasion.

  11. So sorry to read about the vertigo and nausea - that's very hard to bear, and ten days is a long time to have it, and it makes all activities difficult. So very dispiriting ... cold and wind and snow doesn't help :(. I hope you get some ease and relief very soon and that our collective good wishes are comforting for you. Sending warmest good wishes x.

    1. Thanks Alexa, I think I am feeling less vertigo so fingers crossed these exercises are helping. January is notably usually the coldest month of the winter & while it's been a fairly mild & little snow - this week winter let us know who the boss really is.

  12. Like everyone else - I do hope your vertigo and associated problems sort themselves out soonest. Weirdly my sister and I have both had slight ear infections the last while. Do keep doing the exercises and pull your hat down low when you go out. (Go out? What a quaint idea!!)

    1. Oh I do hope you & your sister are getting those ear aliments seen to. I believe the exercises are working, not a wobble for several days. I found my ear/head band that is perfect at keeping ears warm & covered, alas walks outside will be brief, today's morning is -14 (c) & with the wind chill it is -19 (c)
