Good Morning On This Fair Monday Morning.
Currently Anticipating: the growth of my rhubarb plant. It likes were I transplanted it two years ago. Last year I got about 6 stalks from the plant, enough to make my orange rhubarb loaf; excellent with tea for an afternoon book reading session. I am anticipating I'll get more than 6 stalks this year, enough to make at least two orange rhubarb loaves! One for now, one for the freezer.
Currently Awaiting: from the library, 3 DVDs of the first season of The Ambassador, starting Pauline Collins. It was aired in Britain 1998 - 1999. The referral came from the librarian that knows our taste & preferences. Have any of you seen? Thoughts?
Currently Crafting: towards my goal for 100 Day Project, more cards & more scrap book pages. I have on order from my favourite scrapping store, Two Scrapbook Friends, some supplies in anticipation of NSD this coming weekend. I will be pulling out the stash already started for my pages of COVID-19, Pandemic, Lockdown life. My plan with these supplies is to get caught up on this particular album. I recently found some great ideas on Pinterest. For those of you using Pinterest, just key in Pandemic and/or COVID & you'll get 100's if not millions of ideas.
I'll leave you with this thought ... "as you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters always point in the correct direction"

I have a new crop of the later tulips ready to bloom. There is no more treats out for the squirrels - Mr Man is such a soft touch. I said "your squirrel friends or your Wife's tulips-choose wisely, I cook they don't".
DeleteI think you need to borrow our Coco to scare off those pesky squirrels, chasing squirrels is her favourite hobby!
ReplyDeleteOur son turned up last week with some stalks of rhubarb from his mother in law's garden. I just froze it in portions as I couldn't decide what to make from it, I hadn't even thought about putting it in a cake - must go and google some recipes!
Oh I probably need Coco not only for squirrel patrol but for walking. Mr Man likes rhubarb with strawberries pie, I don't make but will buy a small one for him. I have a few rhubarb coffee cake recipes but the one with orange & almonds is my favourite.
DeleteWhen we returned home yesterday, several of the red tulips in a pot had been eaten. Tracy thought it was the deer, but now we wonder if it wasn't the squirrels. I'm waiting for fresh rhubarb to show up in the market. One of our all-time favorites is a rhubarb coffee cake that just isn't quite as good with the frozen rhubarb I stuck in the freezer last year.
ReplyDeleteI know the deer eat tulips but we haven't had deer close enough in a few years. I read that planting a ring of daffodils around the tulips would discourage not only deer but squirrels. Frozen rhubarb is ok in a pinch, I've used for my coffee cake recipe & I cannot say I noticed too much difference.

Mr Man was quite annoyed about the flag, it was rather expensive & he's decided not to replace. So far the Canada flag hasn't been bothered. Maybe patriotic squirrels?
DeleteI have a circle of friends just like yours :) I keep it on a book case. Your poor tulips. It's times like that I'd love to know how to poison squirrels *sigh* I'm settling for attempts to foil them, but they're persistent critters. I haven't seen that tv show, but it looks like it's available online. Definitely looks watchable. Splinters! Ouch! I'll take the slow route down the stairs and not risk it lol
ReplyDeleteSquirrels like raccoons adapt so quickly to urban and/or city life. They are quite determined. I won't hurt them, but I am not adverse to chasing with a broom! Removing any food source like the peanuts we put out for the chipmunks needs to not be readily available.
DeleteOh, I'm so sorry to hear about the squirrels eating your tulips! You'll need to grow them in squirrel-proof cages! Your poor flag, too. But, I guess the squirrels didn't get to your rhubarb!

Mr Man is looking to build me some chicken wire cloches to see if that doesn't work. I am thankful that the black squirrels have chased the horrible grey squirrels away, they are far worse.

DeleteI envy you the tulips as the deer around here like to nibble those down to the ground. I think we may be at a turning point here, vaccinations have slowed down dramatically in our area after we got off to a quick and efficient start, so I am wondering if lots of people are just too hesitant to get it, That may be bad news as things are opening up entirely too quickly IMHO. I might see if I can find The Ambassador as I have been stumped lately about what to start.
ReplyDeleteThankfully our vaccine supply is becoming steadier & more & more sites are opening. In Toronto they are training the fire fighters how to give injections because the doctors & nurses are SO needed in the hospital ICUs with the rising (although leveling out) new cases. I find right now it's thin pickings for TV & we don't have Netflix.
DeleteOh, what a bummer about the tulips! Our two rose bushes are so full of blooms right now & we enjoy them every day as we head out for a walk. The first couple of years after we planed them, they had very few buds ... and the rabbits ate them.
ReplyDeleteAlso a bummer about the Covid variants! Vaccines are still rolling out steadily here - we've had both our shots & are just now past the two weeks mark of being "fully vaccinated."
I am hopeful that the late blooming tulips will have a longer showing. Ah roses. I saw on CNN that USofA has many of the same variants now taking hold, causing Dr Fauci concern, he says it's why we still need to wear masks. Let's all hope that the vaccines protect. I also saw that Texas is closing many of their mass vaccination sites since most of the population is now fully vaccinated. Well done Texas!.
DeleteIn reality, it's more like everyone that wants to get it has been vaccinated. There are still many that are not planning to take the vaccine, so the larger sites are closing.
DeleteI just hope that opening everything up doesn't require to shut it down again. I believe in the slow & steady approach, but then I have been overly cautious ...
DeleteI winced when I saw your poor flag ... and quite understand the sentiment. It's hard not to feel ragged after the winter we've all endured. Oh gosh, I had no idea that squirrels would attack flowering tulips :(. So sorry to read they've got at yours. I lost ones I planted last year to squirrels but as bulbs, so I grew them under cover in an old lean-to this year and have just put them out in pots now that they're in bud - I assumed they were out of danger but perhaps not. Yikes. Hope you find something agreeable to watch - it's nice having a series to work one's way through. The next Great British Sewing Bee has just started here, so that's marked on my calendar!
ReplyDeleteYou are now the 4th person to mention The Great British Sewing Bee show ... I need to find that one. As for my tulips I am looking forward to the later blooming ones & just hope that these squirrels will be too busy with their babies to snack on my flowers!
