Currently Reading: Just finished another of the Dr Ruth Galloway crime books, now I'm caught up in this series & await the release of the latest. I also just finished the 2nd book in The Thursday Murder Club series. I also read Tom Bower's book Revenge. WOW. I was surprised at how well it flowed & it read almost like a novel. I've just begun the 2nd book in The Max Tudor murder mystery series- A Fatal Winter. I just cannot believe how treacherous it is living in a small English village.
Currently Watching: this side of the pond the latest Masterpiece mystery was started on Sunday; The Magpie Murders. Also Annika began last night, with the fabulous Nicola Walker. House of The Dragon is getting far too complicated for Mr Man; thankfully we record, so I can pause to explain who it was that was just killed or who it was doing the killing or in some cases who was not killed but escaped!

Currently Scheduled: in Ontario, now anyone over 18 years of age, can receive the new Omicron targeted vaccine. Mr Man & I scheduled in early December. Flu jabs will not be available until November, which baffles me since all the health experts are saying (1) flu season starts in September (2) it's going to be a really bad flu season. So why isn't the vaccine available until November in Ontario?!!!?
Currently Discovering: that a big block of marble, low fat cheese, on sale at Costco, can be divided into chunks & frozen for later use & it is absolutely fine when thawed. This has been my most successful domestic discovery of 2022!

And I will leave you with this thought ... as I find random loose screws about the house, I just assume it is another sign of my life falling apart.

ReplyDeleteI cannot remember who in my youth told me cheese does not freeze well. Glad to put that old tale to rest. I do often out loud say "oh Ruth, don't" while reading the Galloway books. :)
DeleteStunning photos, Ms Autumn is not so fully present here yet, but we are anticipating great things. I need to get onto the rest of the Max Tudor series, enjoyed the Autumn one.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoyed Annika and can't wait for the second season, also looking forward to Magpie Murders -- will check and see if it aired here last night.
And loose screws should be a comfort, as that means things can operate normally without being 100%, or you would have needed those loose screws.
As our temperatures drop lower & lower over night, it causes the beautiful coloured leaves to drop - I could certainly take a slowing of this natural process. My all time favourite Nicola series is Unforgotten, I really hope that when we get the next installation, Sunny is carrying the load of the series. We get the Boston PBS station.
DeleteI've just started book 2 in the Thursday Murder Club series! I did smile when I read your comment regarding how dangerous it is to live in a small English village ;-) They are so often chosen as a location for crime aren't they?
ReplyDeleteWe had our flu jab a few weeks ago and my booster Covid is booked for early November. So many vaccinations!
I remember the Queen making the comment about not wanting to live in any of Midsomer villages because of the high rate of murder. Yes so many jabs, I feel like a pin cushion. We are being asked to have COVID jabs at least a 6 month interval unless you have an auto immune problem.

I am hoping to try the Costco big block of mozzarella cheese to see if it will freeze and thaw as well as the marble cheese did. If it does, I have saved myself lots of $$'s as Costco pricing works out so much cheaper in the long run. This year we have had such a variety of Autumn colours. My friend in Ottawa says she is getting mostly shades of gold.

ReplyDeleteI often freeze cheese, usually cheddar. I usually grate it before I freeze it and then just use it straight from the freezer as it defrosts in no time at all. I'm not supposed to be eating cheese, so this is my way of restricting how much I eat!
Rumours in my family about freezing cheese are turning out with my own experiences to be wrong. I shredded after it has defrosted, but maybe next time getting the shredding done before I need might prove to be a time saver when I'm actually in need of cheese. I try to restrict how often I add cheese to a recipe but oh it just adds that little bit of extra yum.
DeleteBeautiful colors you've captured, and thanks for giving Autumn a Ms title! Why didn't I even think of that? Good luck on cheese. I think I've tried a few, and have Asiago and Parmesean now frozen (the crumbles kind).
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a soft cheese or a cream cheese would be successful like the hard marble or cheddars. Neither of the cheeses you mentioned are used a lot, I do find Parmesean quite a bit salter than other cheese. I think of winter as the only male season (lol).
DeleteWell I must say I am very hurt that you didn't tell me you were going on a photo walk at the conservation area. I would have behaved myself, kept to the paths and not got in the way of your photos. But maybe there will be another sunny day with deep blue sky soon, and I will just have to go alone. ;o(
ReplyDeleteHoping to hear something about jabs quite soon. As it stands, I appear not to be eligible for the latest vaccine and I have a horrible feeling about it - both personally and nationally. I guess our government has other things going on at the moment!!

Sorry about that ramblin - it was rather a last minute opportunity, I barely had time to grab my coat. I wore my red jacket so I'd be visible in the woods. Forecast for the rest of this week is rain & drizzle - let's try for a weekend walk.
DeleteOh no I hadn't heard anything negative about this latest booster. The Pfizer Omicron specific, I've read, has some really good results in keeping the 3 latest variants of it at bay or at least with less sickness. I've been reading that Liz is having some early challenges. It never bodes well when in the first weeks of "power" you fire your financial person. Our leaders keep shuffling cabinet members about hoping no on notices failures (or successes).
I mean I have a bad feeling about not being eligible, along with large chunks of the population. The latest jab is definitely necessary for the latest variant coming out of Singapore/Hong Kong, and we are going into winter. Maybe things will change soon.
DeleteOh don't get me started. Liz had challenges before she even got the keys. All she's done is make everything worse because she has no common sense and refuses to listen to sound advice.
I'll probably get over the snub, and forgive you ... eventually. Probably!
Right now this part of the world, health units are saying there needs to be more jabs in arms - people have become complication. Phew, I knew you'd forgive me ... eventually :)

DeleteWe agree--the colors this fall have been spectacular! We're not as far along in color as you are (and neither is southern Wisconsin), but I'm with you on wishing autumn would hang around for quite awhile. Unlikely--it snowed here in Wisconsin yesterday. Far too cold for me in October! There's been no delay in flu shots or the new vaccines here. I had both in late September, and am grateful to have them behind me. Although, I have to say, my reaction to both were milder than usual.
ReplyDeleteOh Karen it is far too early to be using that "s" word! (lol). Some parts of Ontario have had some flu vaccines, but not in our region. We got notification we can book our flu jab next Monday for a November date - that's progress :) The COVID vaccine of both Pfizer & Moderna are both available, it was open to those older & ill first. Plus our Doctor recommended we wait a full 6 months between boosters. I am hoping for milder reaction - but I must say I feel a little like a pin cushion.
DeleteWe seem to have similar tastes in reading and watching although I haven't read all of yours. I sometimes have to get Sue to remind who someone is or what that someone did. Oddly enough, I seem to have more of a long term recollection. We just watched a series that we had forgotten about, but after awhile, I remembered having seen it. I didn't remember many details though.
ReplyDeleteHA HA - Mr Man often goes through a series of what was the series called, you know the one, the one with xxxxx. It certainly keeps me sharpe. We often catch re-runs of Vera & thankfully we miss her so much, we pretend not to remember anything about the episode.
