Currently In the Shopping Cart: Mr Man had ordered these tooth paste rollers back in November 2019 as stocking stuffers. They were finally delivered & proving to be quite useful - worth the wait.
Currently Spending: to have our two Ash trees treated for that nasty invasive Asian Emerald Ash Borer. We had the trees inoculated last year & the arbourist that does this, suggested we do two years in a row. He said that the infestation is less than it was two years ago, which is a good sign for the Ash trees of Ontario. Our arbourist charged us the same price as last year, which is his way of saying thank you for looking after the trees. As you know, we, Mr Man & I, name our trees & we certainly wouldn't want to loose Money Penny or Mikey, as they both provide marvelous shade in our yard.
Currently Laughing: at this little stinkers, who we came across on one of the back roads we were traveling. No Mamma in sight, but no scent that she had been killed. We could not get too close as they are already at an age that they can spray; see the raised tail on the one, that's an indication of a scent release. Four setting off a sink bomb just wouldn't be worth the closer photos.

I like that first critter better than the latter ones. And how nice it is to name your trees, I'm afraid we have too many to undertake that. And knock on wood, we've not had any nasty infestations for several years now. Lovely quote too.
ReplyDeleteI must admit inspite of the naughtiness of the chipmunks, I still encourage them to live in my gardens. Indiana is lucky to have avoided the Emerald Ash Borer, it's merciless & kills the entire tree in 2-3 years of infestation.
DeleteLittle skunks are adorable! We have one ash tree and it is doing very well - haven't had it innoculated, but every year it continues to leaf out. Maybe we're just lucky. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI hope your Ash tree continues to avoid the Emerald Ash borer. In our region it is SO sad to drive along & see all the dead ash trees. It will take years to cut down all the dead ones.
DeleteI also have those toothpaste rollers. After our email exchange when I said we'd had no rain, we got 2 1/2 inches that night. Badly needed, and we're getting a relief from the hot, sticky weather for a couple of days, too.
ReplyDeleteWe did get rain but really not enough. We still have an open fire ban in the region. We also are enjoying cooler temps & a lovely breeze - all windows wide open.

We hope that our inoculating the trees, gives them a fighting chance against that borer. Pine trees in Ontario are also under threat of another type of Asian beetle released by mistake.

ReplyDeleteThe skunks do look lovely, but I wouldn't want to get close enough to experience their spray and it's stink ...
skunks are super cute, super naughty & the smell they spray when threatened lingers for days. If your dog or cat get sprayed it can take months for the smell to entirely go from their fur. Skunks are best viewed from a distance :)
DeleteIt's hard to see trees face these diseases. I'm glad they have a plan. We get chipmunks on the patio but never see skunks in town.
ReplyDeleteOh we get lots of skunks around - our easterly neighbours have a skunk living under their deck but they don't seem to mind. This skunk likes to visit our garden about 4am & is digging holes in the lawn looking for grubs.

ReplyDeleteWell done on keeping the trees looked after. I've only ever seen a skunk in a zoo (and, luckily, never smelled one).
The toothpaste rollers are BRILLIANT! I need to find some! But my big question is: why do you have so many tubes of toothpaste on the go!?!
as for the toothpaste, I have a day time one, a night time one & Mr Man has his own. When I was very little we had a pet skunk that had been given to us, it had been de-scented, which is no longer allowed (thankfully as it is their only defense). They like to dig holes & really don't make for good house pets. Barry was on the barbeque - not in use - it gave him quite the view.

The trees will require ongoing, every other year of treatment for a while yet. There's no native pest control hence why this beetle destroyed the Ash trees. In north eastern Ontario they clear cut out Ash trees by the millions trying to stop/slow the spread of the bettle, but alas it has made it's way west & east.

ReplyDeleteI think we started naming the trees because we would need to do something or notice something about a particular tree & Mr Man isn't good with the botanical names of the tree, hence names began (lol).

So far MoneyPenny & Mikey are both in full leaf & providing wonderful shade. Baby Skunks are cute from a distance but right now there's an adult proving to be very naughty digging in the garden.
DeleteOh my, I don't believe I've ever seen more than one skunk at a time! So cute ... but oh so glad no spray was released.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how long skunks stay together because as adults I don't think they meet up often. A local wildlife rescue often gets baby skunks as their Mothers often get hit my cars :(
