Reading: Finishing book seven of my Harry Potter series annual summer re-read. Still my most favourite book series. Each time I re-read the series, I pick up on something I had not thought about or really paid much attention to.
Sad: It was announced at church this past Sunday that our minister has decided to quit our congregation & return to his home province of BC (British Columbia), where his daughter & grandchildren still live. The search is now on to find a replacement, which I think will be very difficult. Father M. was certainly a very relate-able minister & his sermons were of the quality that allowed no one to nap through!
Thinking: On several jaunts out last week through some very pretty countryside we were over whelmed with all the dead ash trees; trees that were once, 40 foot beautiful examples of a healthy tree, providing shade & a home for native wildlife. The cause is that horrible, nasty destructive Emerald Ash Borer. I wonder is the horde from the east that Nostradamus talked about or is that from the Book of Revelations, is it this destructive insect. One slip up of an import inspector's roster, allowed this insect to invade our trees in North America. They have (apparently) traced the insect's arrival in 2002 to one Asian cargo ship's untreated wooden pallets. The North American Ash Tree will be no more within 15-20 years according to the experts. This is why treating the trees is SO important, it gives the researchers time to find a cure.

My Sign That I Made |
Worried: about Mr Man's eye. At his last eye check up, it was discovered he has bleeding behind the eye (again). We have a consult with the eye surgeon in Toronto (again). Not looking forward to that drive (again).
Lots of mail last week - birthday cards!
My leaving thought for the week is from Ferris Bueller's Day Off movie; “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Belated birthday wishes to you. I've just finished watching all the HP films (shown weekly on TV) and will start on the books once I've finished my current read - I too am always surprised at how much new info I pick up on each time I read the books. I'm off to HP studio tour again next week ... just to make you jealous.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question about the new blog name - I'd been planning to change it for a while because the old name related to my life when I was in to card making and scrap booking, but the blog has never been used for those hobbies. I wanted a new name which summed up my life as it is now and also was relevant to how I use the blog.
Thank you Eileen. I do like your new blog name. I am very jealous that you get to tour the HP studio - again! (col).
DeleteHopefully, my card will show up in the mail SOON! I never seem to get international mail in the post quickly enough. Hope it was a good day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen - I look forward to receiving a masterpiece in the mail (ooh squeals of delight already). My actual birthday was a lovely day, a tea party for me.
DeleteOh happy birthday! Our minister left this year from our church and many of us were disappointed to see her go. Sorry to hear about his eye. That must be very worrying.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maggie for the birthday wishes. We are very worried about Mr Man's eye.
DeleteMe too ... I hope my card (posted almost two weeks ago) arrives soon. And all the best on the eye front.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new crafting pursuits ... as I currently feel about crochet, I would say "leave well alone". But once I crack my latest pattern maybe I'll be more encouraging!
Let's just say I won't be buying any wool any time soon (col). Good luck with your latest endeavour - sweater? scarf?
DeleteSorry to have not clocked it was your birthday. Wishing you many belated but happy returns of the day, and that the year is full of good things for you. Your creativity is certainly blossoming! That's a very neatly done sign ... Did you paint the lettering?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Alexa. The lettering is first created with a stencil with a electronic cutting machine, after staining the wood, you then paint over the stencil to get perfectly aligned letters. I am thinking of adding a heart to the house. We have it hanging in the kitchen for now.
DeleteFirst of all, sorry to hear that the eye problems continue, I do hope that they can find a solution very soon.
ReplyDeleteNow, new crafts ... definitely give knitting a try. I was inspired to try sock making via Sian at From High in the Sky blog and loved it. It was very portable - small projects fit in handbags and are easily taken to places, it's very quick to do a row if you only have about 50 stitches to worry about, there are lots of youtube videos to watch if you suddenly run into trouble and you get to have something to keep you warm in the winter once they are finished! Go on, give it a go!
Thanks Deb for that encouragement towards knitting. I was told by someone who was trying to teach me to crochet that I am backwards; even though I am right handed, I crochet like I'm left handed so she gave up trying to teach me. youTube, now there's an option! Thanks.
DeleteI have yet to read the Harry Potter series, which my daughter keeps telling me I need to.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and hope you find some answers to your husband's eye troubles.
Tracy I think you will enjoy HP series, book one is a quick read, be sure to get the Canadian/British version; Philosopher Stone & it will have you hooked (hopefully).
DeleteThat sign you made is very appropriate for right now, isn't it? Hope you still have it and displayed prominently!
