Memorandum Monday - August 29th

A gracious good morning to you all.  Ah what new finds, new adventures, new ideas have we all be experiencing - well let's find out by connecting with our hostess, Sian & those other Monday wavers at:  From High In The Sky

New nature wonders seen from the patio on Saturday evening were the annual flying ant & seagull show. We see this only one day at year when all the flying queen & drone ants appear to take flight to the waiting, hungry seagulls. I am SO amazed at how many ants there are.

Gorging on the ants, the seagulls then become drunk or high on the sweet acid of the ants.  It takes hours for all the ants to appear but less than an hour for the ants to dispatch & then the swooping, diving seagulls are around for about 1-2 hours.  Ah nature.

Also new nature news from the patio, it is this time of the year that the plain hostas start blooming.  Their tall flower stocks have pure white flowers that the hummingbirds adore as I do.  To me, the flowers smell like gardenias & it is for this reason that I grow this type of hosta.  The scent seems to release as the sun sets & if there is a slight breeze the scent wafts over the patio - quite divine.

I grow two clumps of this particular hosta, one near the patio & one near the circle patio at the end of the garden.

And continuing on with the natural wonders, we, Mr Man are is feasting on the ample harvest of the new type of sweet cherry tomatoes.  I have this thing about tomatoes that are not surrounded by mao & toast.

Sweet Lass Cherry Tomatoes

And my last new is that I am feeling total disgust with the behaviour of F1 fans; what is with the booing of the podium finishers. This has happened at quite a few of the races this year.  It is rude & quite un-sportsperson like.  I do not like it.

Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead, one that abounds with joy & wonderment.

My thought for the week:  At some point you gotta let go & sit still & allow contentment to come to you.  Elizabeth Gilbert

Memorandum Monday - August 22nd

Waving good morning to our hostess, Sian & the other Monday Memo writers & linking in here:  From High In The Sky

Having just enjoyed a couple of weeks off from blogging & blog reading, & in keeping with Sian's theme of what's new or a first, on this Monday, I am happy to report from the patio all the new here.

New plants for our gardens; a red & white Rose of Sharon & a red Hardy Hibiscus.  I chose the colours in keeping with the plans for a red & white floral front garden display next year as Canada celebrates being a nation for a 150 years.  I also bought 2 kinds of red & white tulips.  Oh the plans!

Last week I celebrated a birthday.  Of course that is not new, I do it every year.  What was new about this birthday was the plans I made to celebrate actually turned out according to plans along with some bonus moments.  Normally I live in Plan T or Z ... very rare for a Plan A to work out.

Planned for a horse drawn carriage ride through the Niagara Botanical Gardens.  Bonus; we were the only ones in the carriage & our driver took a little longer in the drive.

Planned for tea at The Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara On The Lake. Bonus; we were seated by the window in the conservatory. Bonus PLUS; a couple sitting near us had taken a photo of us together (I had asked) & a little later two glasses of pink champagne with strawberries arrived at our table purchased by this couple.  The gentlemen said birthdays need to be celebrated in style.  I was so overwhelmed by this true act of random kindness, I cried.  Not the ugly cry, but the nice big fat joyful tears (truly a bonus in that my eye makeup did not run).

And new this season, rain, the last weekend 2 days of on/off rain!
