SNAP - Stumped

Linking in here: Helena's SNAP  to see what has caught everyone's eye this week.

I spotted on my walks last week at least 3 tree removal companies working in the neighbourhood to remove very old, very large & very rotting trees.  Most were maples that were at least 50-75 years old.  Sad but necessary.  It really changes the views.  On the first stump,  GET is the initials of the company taking down three of the trees, 16 is for 2016.

This week my SNAP collection has me stumped.

  1. I know it is necessary and they would fall in nature anyway but it does seem sad when a big old tree is cut down - hope something nice is made from the wood

    1. nothing but wood chips & shavings for mulch in the gardens, so I guess a return.

  2. An interesting group of images. Re the flowers of my Snap: the pink flowers are part of the plant known as Elephant's Ears and the last image is, I believe, a tree peony.

    1. Thanks for letting me know about the flowers. Oh I do like tree peonies.

  3. Over the last several years, we've had several large, old trees removed in our quite small neighborhood. You're correct, it does change the look of the neighborhood. But a plus is that we have a lot more light.

  4. too bad about the trees....I also have a large stump like this in my backyard because of the removal of a large unsafe poplar.

    1. Oh yes poplar are quite a weak wood. I am just surprised that these old maples have rotted so badly (from the inside out) the tree people say it is the mix up of weather.

  5. Well seen for a snap collection! It's sad when trees are cut down, and as you say, it completely changes to look of the place.

    1. I will try for a better shot of that one, the owners were in their yard & I felt awkward.

  7. You're so right, sometimes these things are necessary and I'm sure the view is different now xx

    1. I am sure the home owners are going to miss the shade value these trees brought.

  8. It's always sad to see a cut down but if they are rotten it's the safest option. I love looking at the rings on tree stumps.

    1. I was told that reading the age rings will be easier once the stump has dried a bit. I will check later in the week.

    1. I think of all the energy that went into creating them, from seed to twig to tree ... ah.

  10. You do find the most interesting subjects for Snap! Its hard to see a beautiful tree go, but needs must I suppose. Lets hope more than four are planted to replace these.

  11. Great snap subject. We've had some big trees come down around here too. But usually the owners have the stumps ground out so they can plant grass. Will those stumps be left then?
