Memorandrum Monday - October 3rd.

A morning greeting wave from underneath my umbrella as it has been 3 straight days of rain, drizzle & fog. Linking in with Sian & the other memo writers at:  From High In The Sky

What news do I bring from the patio?  Well I have several new to me items to report on.

New season of Poldark started & I finally had a chance to watch. Oh my, cool me down now,  the lead actor, Aidan Turner is most delicious. Oh most delicious! Thank you Ireland.  Ladies my thoughts are too racy for day time blogging.  If you have not seen, DO, catch up with season one first.  Enjoying the filming in Cornwall & the history of the region.

New season of Indian Summers was another I needed to catch up on. I know it is not actually filmed in India but Malaysia (where this week's F1 Race was). Gorgeous location.  Interesting history woven into this story of India's fight  for independence.  I also find it SO interesting to see Julie Walters in a less than nice role.  Certainly not Mrs Weasley.

In keeping with tv - I am so sad to hear of the new changes to The British Bake Off series.  What will it be without Mary Berry, Sue & Mel.  Rumour has it Saunders & French could be the new hosts.

I was invited to join a previous clinic colleague at her ladies church group - A Ladies Dessert Evening - there were guest speakers from Gleaners Canada group.  This ministry was very new to me, but the work they do has been going on for years.  They take donated surplus veggies & sometimes fruit from local wholesalers/farmers/grocery groups.  They clean, chopped & freeze dry the veggies & then turn into a soup mix. The fruit they freeze dry & serve as "candy treats".   They provide tons & tons of this product to countries in need around the world.  Most interesting ministry.  The second guest speaker was from Medical Ministries International, a group providing, primarily optical & dental care although with some types of surgery.  Another ministry group totally new to me.  The lady from MMI shared the story of her journey in MMI, which had the theme of heartbreak & found joy.  While she spoke extremely fast, I enjoyed her talk.  My dessert was homemade cherry pie - that is not new to me.

Two other new to me workshops or gatherings I have been invited to attend are; the Womb Blessing event & The Red Tent event.  The Womb Blessings invites women of all ages to join in.  There are blessings given to the empty womb, the angry womb, the wounded womb, the full womb, the missing womb; the finished womb; well you get it.  The Red Tent event is based on the book & the old world traditions of separating women from the group in the celebration of  that "time of the month".  While I get why & what,  of these gatherings, I would probably put them into the new age types of events & not sure either are for me.  Have you heard of these two types of gatherings?  Have you participated?

I hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead of them.  In Canada this week it is all about the preparation for Thanksgiving, October 10th.

My thought for the week is really something for me to remember:  "Tell the negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down & be quiet."  Ann Bradford.

  1. I'm afraid I totally praise Mary Berry for sticking with the BBC and not defecting to the other side. I am pretty sure the Bake off with not be worth watching anymore.
I love Poldark for the scenery. I confess to being old enough to remember it from last time round!

  2. I love that quote! Never heard of a Womb Blessing event or a Red Tent event. Amazingly enough, The Red Tent has been sitting on my shelf for YEARS, and is still unread. (Well, unread by me, a couple of my friends and my daughter have read this copy.)

  3. How interesting that the Bake Off debate has reached Canada, I don't think it will be the same with advert breaks and new presenters, I'm not sure I'll be watching after this year.

  4. I think I may well be the only person who doesn't watch Poldark lol. I have however got ever so slightly obsessed with the bake off, and I must admit a little sad it's changing channels, but you never know, it may be just as good. Time will tell, I suppose x

  5. I have not seen these shows before, I may need to look into them.

  6. And I must be the only woman who has not fallen for Aidan Turner!
I have never heard of the Womb Blessing or Red Tent event and I'm not sure I do understand the point... I'm intrigued now!

  7. Alexandra: you are not on your own! I think that being old enough to remember the original Poldark has turned me off watching the new one. I just can't get into it at all.

I'm cheering on Mary Berry too. Good for her!

No: I haven't heard of either of these events. I'm much more taken with the soup mix idea: how clever is that?

    Wishing you a good week!

  8. Your garden looks very inviting right now. It's funny to hear you talking about British TV ... I love Poldark (I'm just that little bit too young to have seen the original; Mum was a huge fan) and GBBO (although it's on here round about the time TBC is getting ready for bed, so we usually watch it via catch-up).

  9. Fascinating to read about the work of the Gleaners - what a great ministry. Not heard of the Nre Age-y groups before - I think I'd probably give them a miss! Your patio looks beautiful ... Yes, sad about the Bake Off but I admire Mary, Mel and Sue for their loyalty. I've not watched Poldark until a few weeks ago - just catching up myself!

  10. French and Saunders! I hadn't heard that ... the rumours are getting worse! I'm wondering whether I jinxed the GBBO since all the problems seem to have started since I got interested. Could tell you some tales about Mr Hollywood but anyway, let's see what happens. We might end up with two great baking shows - or two mediocre ones. ;o) Enjoy your week Mary-Lou and I hope the sun comes out again for at least a day or two.

  11. Having a little catch up, after a bit of an unplanned break from blog reading lately. I love Poldark and made all the more interesting having visited Cornwall this Summer for our annual break. It's fun recognising the locations and I've stood in the very spot (in the mine) where last week's dramatic action took place. I'm a GBBO fan too and will not be following it to another channel. Fair play to the integrity of the ladies involved in the show. Boo to Mr Hollywood!

  12. I love Poldark although I still prefer the original series as to the Bake Off, at the moment I'm refusing to consider watching the next series, it will never be as classy!

  13. It sounds like you learned a lot of new things about people doing good this week. I like that quote too - but not as much as homemade cherry pie - it is my favorite.
