Memos, Mail, Me: It's Monday - Jan 16th

A Monday wave to all & linking in with our hostess Sian at:  From High In The Sky

What is new from the patio this week and/or what came through the letter box this week?

We do not get home delivery of mail,  our mailed is delivered to the community mailboxes up & around the street from us.  Outgoing mail gets picked up every few days & we go several days without any mail at all.  This week's delivery was a few flyers with coupons for discounts on Harvey's & McDonald's fast food & some deals at Costco.

The new for us this week was picking up the new company vehicle - another white SUV & because Mr Man is still unable to drive I got to drive the new car before him.  The best feature is the rear view camera.

I shall leave you with this thought; The New Year lies ahead
With books to be read, & adventures to be led.  May you find fulfillment & joy all year long!

    1. Thanks Jane. I am hoping that we have lots of adventures of our choosing in 2017 & with a nice new car, should be in style at least.

  2. Good looking vehicle! I'm quite surprised to read about your mail delivery. We have places where the mail is delivered in the same fashion, but it comes six days a week regardless.

    1. Thanks Karen, this is the 4th car/suv of the same colour & brand/model. As it is a company vehicle, not a lot of choice, but no complaints, we don't have to buy! Six days a week mail delivering! WOW you do live in a land of luxury (col).

  3. Community mailboxes are a new one to me too. I'd certainly miss seeing our postman every morning: he's a cheery character and he knows that if he rings the bell to deliver something which doesn't fit through the letterbox, he'll have to wait long enough for me to get down all the stairs from the top floor. I love him for that. Sounds like you don't have as big a problem with junk mail as we do! I get two or three catalogues - at least - every day and most of them go straight to the recycling.

    Enjoy the new car!

    1. You seem lucky to have such a good postman. Our postal carrier changes often & some seem to have great difficulty getting the correct mail into the correct slot - for weeks we were taking mail back (a drive) to the main postal station - it made me wonder how much of our mail went missing.

  4. Me too! Surprised about your postal arrangements. I didn't think you were so countrified! (Don't tell Royal Mail, they'll be onto this cost-cutting exercise like rat up a drainpipe...)

    1. Oh all of this has been years of gov't cost cutting. Most of the really rural areas still get end of the driveway mailbox delivery but there is a push on to that to cancel that. There are so few actual postal carriers anymore. Thankfully our line up is only 3 boxes long & most everyone is really good about taking their junk mail home to put in recycle.

  5. We have home delivery here and receive mail 6 days a week. Being married to a collector, we rarely go a day without something in the box! :)

I like the rear view camera on my car, especially because it has good peripheral vision.

    1. Mail delivery 6 days a week & you get something delivered most days! I have even noticed a reduction in advertising flyers being put in the mail boxes, now everything comes online (which could be worse). My own car does not have a rear view camera so I do not want to become to reliant on it ...but it is a nice feature.

  6. I've never heard of community mailboxes ... Mind you, our service is down to once a day - in 'the old days' there used to be two deliveries a day! Mind you, I'm not sure I could stand two lots of junk mail a day! Your vehicle looks very zippy :).

    1. Mail delivered twice a day! When I was just re-watching Downton, I noticed that the mail was quick as same day invitations were delivered promptly! A regular birthday card that is being delivered less than 20K can take up to 7 business days - oh yes let's not forget that term - delivery in (_) business days!! I will say no more.

    1. There is truly something about that new car smell - there is lots of bells & whistle of new safety features, one I get to test today with the ice storm - 4W drive ...

  8. We Brits think community mailboxes are just plain weird! (No offence!) I'm a fan of hearing the post thud onto the mat.

    1. No offence taken (col). When I was on the Christmas house tour I noticed several of the really old houses had mail slots in the door but were now bolted shut. I like the idea of the routine of the mail thudding onto the front hall mat but alas not in many parts of Ontario.

    1. Thanks Leslee, I cannot remember a time with home delivery for mail, but not that I would need anyway, we just don't get that much mail except at Christmas.

  10. I can't imagine not having mail coming through the letter box at home! Although the noise of the metal flap opening and closing is prone to wake a sleeping dog who then needs to scare the intruder away by barking ...
My post is quite often just catalogues from shops or credit card companies begging me to take out a new card, so proper post is always a pleasure to receive.
    Love that shiny new car!

    1. My friend that lives in the really old part of Hamilton still gets home delivery & her mailman carries dog biscuits with him to win over any of the dogs on his route.
