Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday September 11th

Good morning all.  I hope that everyone had a wonderful week & weekend.

On the memo front, Mr Man had an appointment at the big hospital in Toronto on Friday & he will have to begin another 6-7 treatments that involve an injection into the eye.No reason for why he has bleeding behind the eye (again).  He's been through this treatment before BUT a memo has been sent to our local eye specialist that gives permission for the eye injections to be done at the local clinic.  We just need to receive confirmation that it can be done.  It would save so much travel time & anxiety.  The treatments are spaced out at 6 week intervals, so with winter coming, we have all our possible body parts crossed that Dr Bob says yes - driving on winter roads to/from Toronto are not how either of us want to spend time.  This was one of my brave activities ...

The weather continues to be a prime topic for radio, TV & discussions.  The world seems to be in the midst of fire, the shakes, wind & water - yeah it does sound just like a list of symptoms listed on that menopause brochure we have in the waiting room at work!  Massive out of control forest fires are still raging & growing in our western provinces.  Mexico was not only hit with a massive earth quake but a hurricane.  Several Caribbean island have been totally destroyed & several southern states in the US of A are heavily damaged by 3 hurricanes in a row; Harvey, Irma & Jose.  Prayers for all affected by Mother Nature's mood swings.

And speaking of weather, as it turns cooler locally, I see evidence of change in the farmers fields of soy & in my own garden.  Sunday we had big clear blue skies & lots of sunshine.

I cannot find any explanation as to why my white roses, Glamis Castle, always get red sprinkle spots on the last flowers of the season.  It's not an insect & it's not a mold.  I wonder if it is "reflecting" back to it's root stock breeding.

On the mail front there should have been lots of cards wishing Mr Man a happy birthday, but he forbids anyone to celebrate, mention or wish him a happy birthday.  He's always been like this, hates his own birthday but takes great joy in celebrating mine.  We did go out for a special brunch but it was not a birthday celebration.
Poached eggs in Yorkshire Puddings
Oh yes, another memo piece ... on Thursday at 4pm one of the latest hires sent me, by email, her resignation; when her shift was done at 5pm, she was done - no working any notice! She found a job that is 40 hours & pays more.  She knew when she was hired this role was & would always be part time.  Talk about timing,  I had popped into the clinic just as she sent - she was rather surprised because she was uncomfortable facing me knowing she wasn't giving any notice.  What could I do or say but wish her success in her new job.  Thankfully someone contacted me directly within the hour to express interest in applying.  I interviewed Friday, new person starts Monday.

Monday please be good to me, I have high hopes that the start of the work week is a good one ...

  1. Well that poached egg in Yorkshire pudding looks like a rather delicious un-birthday brunch. Never heard of that combination before but it looks like one to try. I do hope that you manage to arrange those more local eye treatments. Although the thought of an injection in the eye makes me feel very squeamish.
Mother Nature is certainly having a rage against the earth at the moment, I love your comment about fire shakes wind and water! I have a friend who lives in the Fort Myer area right on the sea front at Bokeelia and she is evacuated at the moment, I can't imagine what it is like to leave your house and not know what state it will be in when you return.

    1. The eggs were good, but I think I would have preferred it to have been hotter all round. I'll keep your friend in my thoughts for the best possible outcome once she gets back home. I just cannot & don't want to know what it's like to leave everything behind & to arrive back to destruction.

  2. As someone who similarly has had to make long drives to and from a city to take a family member to appointments during severe winter weather, I am crossing my own fingers for you - and that you'll hear soon. I've never thought of a poached egg in a Yorkshire pudding but it is an interesting idea; plenty of protein. We have unseasonal winds and heavy rainfall here but compared to many, this is nothing. Autumn may well be brown and soggy, rather than yellow, red, orange and crisp! Hoping for a better week for you, business-wise too.

    1. Thanks for your crossed fingers. Poached eggs are a favourite of mine & eggs are the reason I cannot be vegan only vegetarian as I like eggs A LOT. We get maybe 1 or 2 more days of brilliant sunshine before the tail end of "Irma" arrives in our area. :(

  3. Fingers crossed yo get the go ahead for treatment at your local hospital ... and that your husband isn't too inconvenienced by the complaint (it sounds unpleasant). Nature really is doing its thing, right now, isn't it? It's scary enough seeing the news footage, let alone being in the middle of it.
    Wishing you a lovely week.

    1. I use to wear contacts, so even putting that in my eyes was difficult, I cannot imagine what Mr Man goes through each time with the injections - I get the shakes even watching. We/I have taken a break from news, it is so sad, so over whelming.

  4. That was a good read! Even if not all the content is so brilliant. What a nuisance about the eyes. At the very least let's hope the treatment can be done locally, and that this time sees a full recovery.
    Lovely photo of the soy.

    1. Thanks Ella. I couldn't believe what a big sky it was on Sunday. We have been told the remnants of Hurricane Irma will be arriving here on Wed/Thur, so out on the patio I go to enjoy sunshine now.

  5. I'm so sorry to hear that Mr. Man has to have another round of injections. I, too, have my fingers crossed that you'll be able to take care of it locally. That brunch looks absolutely delicious! I noticed today that the flowers on our patio are even nicer than they were a month ago. Go figure! Everything looks great, but it's way too cool to have coffee out there in the morning!

    1. I tried bundling up to have tea on the patio, but the chill cooled my tea way too fast. I was thinking I need to start a plan to empty patio pots, but I can't just yet, there is that final flush to enjoy. Brunch was extra tasty because (1) I didn't have to make it (2) I didn't have to clean up afterwards.

  6. Oh, I do hope the eye treatments will be able to be done locally, especially as they will go into wintertime!

We rarely watch the news, but I've been consumed with the weather the last several weeks. So much happening around the country & so many lives affected!

Hope you're able to get a new hire on board quickly! What a bummer about the no notice.
