Good Morning, I trust everyone is well.
It was certainly a weekend of great celebration here in Canada, The Two Michaels, have returned home to Canada after being imprisoned as political hostages in China for over 1000 days in retaliation of the arrest of Meng Wanzhou for fraud, in 2018 on behalf of the US of A government. After pleading guilty but not guilty, Meng left Canada on Friday & shortly there after The Two Michaels were released. The Two Michaels refer to Michael Kovrig & Michael Spavor.
We finished watching season 3 of The Detectorists. I am quite sad that this series is over. I hope that Mackenzie writes a 4th season. We felt it was a really well written, well acted series. I do recommend it.
I've finished Louise Penny's latest, Madness Of Crowds. I enjoyed more than the audio version. It is a book that certainly sparks conversation about many things, especially about eugenics & euthanasia; what makes a saint a saint & the past deeds of society that was once deemed as good but now in hind sight it is not (during the cold war, psychiatric patients were used to test brain washing techniques; horrible treatment of the vulnerable ). It also touches briefly on the behaviour of society during the pandemic. In the book, the pandemic of COVID over, that the vaccines worked & the world was back to a form of normal. While I have the book, I'm going to start re-reading.
Not In My Garden |
Finally, let's not forget that this Friday, October 1st is the final 2021 link in for the SPSH, the easing, but not gone pandemic restrictions edition.
And I'll leave you with this question; do you ever feel like your Fairy Godmother has stepped out for a smoke?
My wife did say that everything was in that book.
ReplyDeleteI think my over all feeling is there were too many topics of debate included in this book & a thinner plot line.
DeleteLove that last question! We have a new thing to panic over here at the moment. Petrol panic buying. The queues for petrol are ridiculous! So many road blockages and frayed tempers. Think I'll stay local and walk wherever I can until the madness blows over!
ReplyDeleteAh the madness of crowds! We filled up today & I was very surprised how expensive gas was, no panic buying here, yet.
DeleteWhat a lovely scene!
ReplyDeleteThe "Michaels" situation is one that gets some coverage here but not much. I can't imagine how it felt to be held prisoner for that long and am happy they're finally home.
I think we have to be very wary of the red horde from the east ...
DeleteThe scene by the river changes almost daily with the leaf colour.
I will do my best with the SPSH for Friday but, as I'm keeping close to home this week, may have to wait until the following week for two photos I need ... so I'm apologising ahead of time!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched The Detectorists yet but it has now made the list for something to watch over the winter. I don't now how I missed it as it seems to have had really good reviews but I am used to being late to the party 😂
No need to worry about Oct 1st for SPSH. I've really struggles with a few being that we were reluctant to go too far from home or anywhere with too many people. Such is life. The Detectorists is a slow one, but as I've said before, I'd want to be on their trivia team & have a drink with them. We liked all the characters.
DeleteI still have a couple of captures to do---here at home, actually so there's no excuse not to be ready on Friday. But how can Friday be October first? I admit to not being ready. The shortening of days is depressing, and I'm not looking forward to another winter of necessary pandemic behavior. That said, we have a lovely weekend and after rain early this morning, it's another sunny, warm day. I'll take every one I can get! Just picked up three (!) books that were on hold at the library so Louise keeps slipping down on the list.
ReplyDeleteKaren I wouldn't worry about letting this latest Louise book slip - after thinking about some of the topics I feel quite forlorn about society. I am feeling somewhat concerned about going into a self imposed lockdown during the winter, I'm not trusting most people to behave safely. I think we could definitely use a day away.
DeleteWow - that was a lot of rain! I'm glad it didn't cause you any problems. The mornings have been getting dewier for the last couple of weeks but I haven't smelled that "autumn smell" yet. Till now, the nights have been warm enough that the courgettes, cucumbers are still producing, but we had heavy rain last night and it is set to get cooler from now on. I looked out of the window this morning and saw my neighbour's drive covered in yellow leaves. It's funny how something small makes you think, "This is it!"
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about an autumn smell & it's not all pumpkin spice either. I found it most strange that within the hour of Autumn's official arrival leaves started to fall. This is it ... an end to a glorious summer :(
DeleteWow, that's a lot going on, especially so much rain!
ReplyDeleteBTW - I'll have a post for the SPSH on Friday. :)
Looking forward to seeing your SPSH photos. We have had a few more days of rain but nothing as heavy. I was grateful that our sump pump worked & kept the basement dry.
DeleteI think Ms. Autumn decided to make herself felt over here, too! It was downright chilly, today (for me, anyway; the high was 66F) and cloudy! That's a lot of rain to receive in one go!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I will be able to meet the Oct. 1 deadline for my photos! I still don't have any photos for a number of prompts! Oops!
Bless do not need to worry about the deadline, this was all about fun & not like a contest that has to have a deadline (col). I look forward to seeing your final post when it is ready :)
