Me On A Monday - August 8th

A friend sent this screen shot to me as she felt it applied to me - ha ha ha, but it does speak volumes of truth!

I've been very busy clearing out lots of old project crafting stuff & my resolve not to buy anything new is holding strong.  Having unsubscribed to many of the crafting companies email notifications has really helped with battling FOMO, especially during "Christmas in July" campaigns.  I also got very determined & cancelled my membership to a stamping company & I've let my card making monthly subscription end - although there are a few months still left on the subscription.  Surprisingly this has been very freeing & has opened up space to create.  Before when looking for something, I'd get very guilt ridden & over whelmed with all the choice.  I was also encouraged by all the excitement going on at the vacation bible school crafting tent with my three boxes of donations.

But do not fear, I still have years of supplies for both my crafting enjoyment possibilities of scrapping & card making .

  1. That screen capture is probably accurate for many people and hobbies.

  2. I love that screenshot! I've unsubscribed from email alerts from a lot of companies and I'm sure I've saved myself quite a bit of money that way. I wouldn't have checked their website if they hadn't made me think about it!

    1. I think screen shot probably describes many crafters of all sorts of crafts. I think my friend was sending to me to deflect her own hoard of wool for all her crocheting projects (col). With my large scrapping/card stash I don't feel deprived at all.

  3. Oh, my, yes! That's me! :D
Well done with staying strong on your resolve not to buy anything new! :)

  4. I am resolved not to add to the bountiful stash I have. I wonder if I can claim FOMO as a medical aliment (col). Clearing out a lot of my social media notifications is really helping - my next step is to maybe cancel my Pinterest account ... maybe.

  5. Yep, I would be guilty as charged. I too have been unsubscribing like crazy, but I did succumb to a recent online sale at American Crafts because only a $25 order earned free shipping. I was smart enough to only put things in my carts that went with stuff I already have. And frankly, I have never been tempted by Christmas in July offerings. I am not in that frame of mind until Sept., at least.

    1. The unsubscribing on some sites takes a lot of effort but I think they count on that so people just give up & keep the buy buy by notifications coming. Most of the scrapping shops I would order from have a minimum of $150 of purchases before free shipping kicks in. Thankfully all 3 are possible to do free curbside pick up if I find I absolutely need something (lol). My original plan was to start making Christmas cards in July (from my stash) but with the extreme heat & humidity it really put all Christmas ideas out of my mojo mindset, although I did organize the papers, stamps/dies into one container so I'm ready to begin :)

  6. When I saw that my thoughts turned to the overflowing bag(s) of yarn looking at me accusingly every time I go in the spare bedroom. I don't buy much, or even often, yet somehow it mounts up ... and that's after I used loads of it on the Ukraine blankets and scarves earlier in the year! I am AT LAST on the home strait with the poncho, first conceived of in autumn 2020, so I will be able to turn my attentions to new projects when it is finished. In fact, this morning I saw a pattern I might like to try ... the big question is: will I have any suitable yarn for it, or will I have to select something else?! We shall see. :o)

    1. Thankfully you did have a yarn stash to use for all those beautifully created scarves & blankets for the Ukraine relief program. I cannot wait for you to post photos of the poncho.
