Memorandum Monday - November 7th

Connecting with other memo writers through our lovely & fair hostess, Sian at:  From High In The Sky

Some news from the patio:

On our last trip back from Toronto, we stopped in at one of my favourite shops; Bahr's Saddlery.  Bahr's had the very print in the window of the horse head picture I had seen in a decorating magazine; as a matter of fact they had a set of horses head prints.  Upon further study, hemming & haring, I said no to both prints - too white for our decor BUT as I turned to leave, I spotted a very large framed print of rider/horse.  Oh I like, so another session of hemming & haring, when once again I said no, too big. As I was pushing on the door to leave  the sales clerk said "we have that print in a smaller size"  OH!  Here is a copy of the print we bought. Still to be hung up.

Mr Man is feeling a little less confident out & about because there is a reduced depth perception along with the fuzzy vision - it will all eventually right itself as the eye heals but this prevents him from driving, so I am the driver, which is totally a new reality for him.  To relieve some of the boredom Mr Man is feeling, on Saturday we ventured into Guelph to visit the museum (some in yesterday's post & more on Wednesday).  There is a big church next door to the museum  & while we were walking about, the noon bells went off - 23 of them.  No idea why it rang an odd number of times, but the gong went right through us.  Photo below is of the bell towers.
Church of Our Lady Of Sorrows (RC)
Other new from the patio; I think the patio gang or mob as they are correctly called, of Blue Jays grows minute by minute.  Some of the Jays will take a moment to pose for me.  Such colour vibrancy against the gold of the maple tree.

On Friday I was invited to attend a dress rehearsal for the remake (TV series) of Anne of Green Gables.  Friends from the barn I ride with, won an auction bid for roles as scene extras.  No photos were allowed & you know I abide by the rules ... three of the ladies from the farm are street scene extras which requires that they be dressed in period costume & riding side saddle on their own horses.  The horses were not very happy with the new gear & anyone that knows horses, knows that it takes special training for the side saddle to the horse & very specialized riding instruction to ride side saddle.  All this prep for what will be about 2-4 minutes of scene.   There will be no Oscars but I handed out carrots.

More photos from the patio.  I find it odd that these two trees are only a short distance apart; 11 metres (35 feet), one clings to its leaves while the other is totally bare.

Rock Maple (Maple) still  fully dressed

Money Penny (Ash) - bare

While trying to stay away from politics, the US of A goes to the polls to vote for a new president tomorrow.  As in any family, what happens to one, affects the entire family, so in Canada we wait with bated breath for the results.  And since I had a Jane Austen weekend I will pray that America votes with Sense & Sensibility and not a Pride & Prejudice Persuasion.  I will say no more.

    1. In spite of the Jays being SO loud & bossy, I do enjoy their daily visits & my fur girls just adore morning bird theatre shows!

    1. I too like the way it is cropped, the rider could be anyone, even me (in my dreams). I am so tired of the USofA elections being the dominate topic on our news!

  4. Hello Mary-Lou,

    Lovely post.
I really enjoy getting a feel for what is happening by YOUR neck of the woods. Like you, I hope my Fellow Americans will come to their senses. I am, we are, extremely nervous about the outcome and frankly we cannot believe we are where are! I wonder how we can heal and come together again. I don't know if it's even possible!

    1. I have several American relatives & they are SO divided on the issues & the candidates I can only trust that good sense within the actual family will not create a breach.

  6. Anne of Green Gables! How exciting! I can imagine it without any photos at all :)

I do hope your man's vision starts to improve soon. It must be very disorientating. Yes, I've been doing more driving here because my patient just gets too tired. He says it takes him back to when we were teenagers and I had a car and he didn't!

    1. I will be only too happy to give up my designated driver role because when we drive out together it is in his car & I find it quite uncomfortable & its an automatic. My own car is standard (stick shift) & I have all the mirrors & seat set to my comfort ...

  7. Your new print is beautiful. You must be excited to get it up on the wall. Very exciting that you got to go to that dress rehearsal. That must have been so awesome! Hope your husband is feeling better with his eyes very soon. Urghhh the election. It has me feeling anxious but I keep watching everything I can about it. It really does effect Canada. :(

    1. I am ready for the election antics to be over with. So glad in Canada we have rules about how long (short) the campaigning can be - the US of A one seems to have been going on for years.

  8. Thank you for your blog comment - I have no idea what the brand of the daylight lamp is - they are provided for us by ATDML. We use to have smaller ones on our desks and these large ones were in the classroom, but everyone loved the classroom ones so much that they have now replaced all the lamps in the crop room with them. They certainly throw out a decent amount of light - in the day there is loads of natural light but you need the lamp later on and it means you work until the wee hours. Looks like you have had a lovely week - the autumn colours are beautiful on the trees right now. Have a great week and I hope your husband's vision improves.

  9. What a majestic beauty in your print. I'm honestly not surprised you bought it. How lucky that the shop assistant was kind to tell you about the smaller one.

You've certainly captured the blue Jay beautifully, I think that's worthy of a frame too.

As I type this, hubby is staying up to watch the election... something this big, effects the whole world, but I'll be glad when the back biting is over and a decision is made xx

  10. I'm a day late in reading this, but you really had a wonderful weekend. I hope Mr. Man's eye continues to improve and he begins to feel more confident. A friend of ours tore his Achille's tendon, and his wife is now the driver for 2-3 months. It's not an easy transition for them! I'm awaiting the election results with bated breath. My overriding emotion: anxiety. It's been such an awful election season so I am glad to see the end of it.

    1. Ouch to your friend's husband toren Achilles tendon, at the physio clinic we have a number of athletes coming in with this injury - it is a slow heal (no pun intended). Election results are in - oh my goodness but I am not surprised.

  11. Such a lot of interesting things here and I am sorry to be late :(. Your yellowing tree is magnificent - in fact, it would make a great print too! Those blue jays are a great contrast to the autumn leaves, aren't they ... I'm another one driving my hubby around - he has broke a bone in his foot which hasn't healed so it is back to the consultant later this week ... Hoping that your husband improves very soon, so you can get back to your automotive comfort :).

Oh that does sound painful for your hubby. It is at these times I am so thankful I got my drivers license.

  12. I was married in a church called Our Lady of Sorrows, which wasn't nearly so grand. And of course, hubby likes to make jokes about that too. I hope Mr. Man's eyesight continues to improve. In the meantime, enjoy being in the drivers seat!
