SNAP - Remembering

Linking in with the SNAP Community along with our hostess Helena at:  SNAP.    Have a peek at what everyone else has found as a two to four photo collection this week & then please join in.

This week my SNAP collection is to mark Remembrance Day.  At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we take 2 minutes of silence to honour & remember our fallen.  I find it a very emotional time.

My Door Wreath For November

Local Highway Sign

Statue: Lt. Col. John McCraw, MD, writer of the poem, In Flanders Fields

I leave you with Canada's own Lieutenant Colonel (MD) John McCrae's  poem, composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915 during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium, WWI

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

  1. I've not seen a remembrance door wreath before - the local yarn bombers have created a lovely display with crochet and knitted poppies

  4. Very moving photos and poem - I've always loved it. And the door wreath is new to me too, but I might just think about this for next year ...
