Take Three Thursday - Mr & Mrs
If
an effort to notice more in my life, I have decided to share what I have
noticed this week in Take Three Thursday. The idea is to take 3 photos
that are linked some how; by theme, by
colour, by date, by moment, by points of view. There is no formal link
in but please feel free to join in. What have you noticed this
week?
This week I noticed an increase in the types of birds we have in our garden. I think it's because we changed the location of our summer bird feeder, we have had a return of the finch pairs, new sightings of House Finces, a Blue Indigo & now a twice daily visit from Mr & Mrs Cardinal. Mr & Mrs Cardinal use to be fly byes & did not linger in our garden. We use to attribute this to the fact that we had mobs of Bluejays, which seemed to over whelm the shy Cardinals. Along with the feeder location we changed the type of feed we put in the silo, which I believe has been a huge reason why the finches are back. They have such a sweet song although very nervous, so when they are on the feeder we have to be ever so still.

If you told me 5 years ago I would become concerned over bird feeder location & type of feed, I would have said you were nuts. I notice more & more types of birds visiting my yard - maybe the chipmunks & squirrels put it about, our garden was a safe place, who knows. I just know how much simple pleasure there is in pausing to watch the birds & hear their song.
You get a much prettier range of birds in your garden than we do here in London - robins and blue tits are about our lot.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you say that Ruth because when I was last in London it was only pigeons I saw & then on the way out to Tonbridge Wells I spotted a pheasant, took his picture & did a layout about another type of bird in England (lol).
DeleteInteresting that your goldfinches are different to ours but then your robins are too. Is that an intentional pun on the word nuts? Very good!
ReplyDeleteyes I thought since we feed the peanuts so readily ...
DeleteYes, very exotic-looking!
ReplyDeleteI think the most exotic we have seen this summer is the blue indigo & he was magnificent.
DeleteWe occasionally have seen a couple of exotic birds (rose-crested grosbeak and Baltimore oriole) at our feeders, but nothing this year. We almost always have lots of pretty finches, but for some reason we haven't seen them this year either.
ReplyDeleteI just heard that there is a huge decline in Hummingbirds in our part of the world; sad. The finches came back, I think because we changed to a mixed finch feed rather than just niger seed.
DeleteWhat wonderful photos you have, and heartwarming thoughts. Warm greetings!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words & for visiting. I truly believe we are shepherds of the beastie world & I try to do my small part, although it will always be a challenge to think kindly of raccoons.
DeleteWOW - great photos!!
