Me On A Monday - December 17th

Currently:

Reading: Becoming Mrs Lewis; just started, about 30 pages in, I am liking.  It's a novel, but based on the real love story CS Lewis & Helen Joy Davidman Gresham.
Also reading, two paper crafting magazines.  Creative Scrapbooker, I borrow from the library & Scrapbook & Cards Today I got free from a friend. Normally I can download Scrapbook & Cards but it really is so much nicer having the actual paper copy to glance through.  Ideas abound.

Sleep: is avoiding me, it's like we are on a bad breakup, not sure what I've done or said, but I wake up between 3:00-3:30am & I just cannot get back to sleep.

Eating: fairly healthy & still on my Naturopathic recommendations, although last Friday we had dinner guests & I did have an ample helping of the noodle/cheese side dish I made. Our guests brought us a tasty bottle of wine & a box of Scottish Shortbread cookies (biscuits) SO good, but I am paying for that break from the food plan.

In The Shopping Cart:  Mr Man bought me a new tree decoration for the horse tree.  It's painted on both sides so I can place to dangle or face either direction.

Baffled by: the phone call from previous boss, asking for help at the clinic & advice.

“Sometimes you don’t need to hear their excuses or what they have to say for themselves because their actions already spoke the truth.”

  1. It sounds like your previous boss is missing you! Did you help him out?

    1. What he misses is the ease of his day to day. I did help him out, I'm all about not burning bridges & keeping the peace, besides it's Christmas (col).

  2. What was the name of that film about CS Lewis and Joy from a few years ago ... I remember that I loved it! The Narnia Chronicles were a childhood favourite and I still have the box-set I received as a birthday gift when I was about 12 ...
I'm waiting patiently for my copy of SCT to arrive - the last issue was lost in the post/Canadian postal strike ...

    1. Oh I didn't know about a movie - umm must check that out. Our charming postal folks have issued an official notice that we can expect a continuation of mail disruption & getting cards & packages a Christmas miracle of sorts ... I'll say no more.

    2. Shadowlands? I dont remember anything, other than that I enjoyed it!
Your boss has a cheek! Good for you for helping him out, as long as he doesn't make a habit of relying on your long-distance assistance now!
Enjoy the last week of Advent, and I hope you don't suffer unduly from a few extra treats and titbits!

    3. You may be thinking about "Shadowlands"? Wikipedia says, "Shadowlands is a dramatized version of Davidman's life with C. S. Lewis by William Nicholson which has been filmed twice. In 1985, a television version was made by the BBC One, starring Joss Ackland as Lewis and Claire Bloom as Davidman. ... A cinema film version was released in 1993, with Anthony Hopkins as Jack (C. S. Lewis) and Debra Winger (in an Academy Award-nominated performance) as Joy Davidman." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_Davidman#Shadowlands

    4. D&S: Ah yes I looked it up too, Shadowlands with Anthony was the first one that popped up - now I must go see if the library has so I can borrow.

Lady Ella: trying very hard to stay away from treats, the few minutes on the lips can be hours of discomfort in the digestive tract. I did get myself some fresh imported berries & fruit as my seasonal treat - it's the cookies I'm missing.

  3. I can imagine just how much your boss is missing you - I agree with you in not burning bridges and the odd quick bit of help occasionally can be the best thing. Nice you know your leaving has made him realise how much you did and knew that no one else did!
Sorry to hear you are not sleeping well. Have you tried listening to podcasts? That is my technique, I keep my iPad close to the bed, slip one ear pod into an ear and turn on a podcast. I guarantee I am back to sleep in 10 mins! I know that as I can set how long it plays for before it switches itself off and I'm never aware of it coming to the end of the 10 mins time! Worth a try.

    1. Thanks for the back to sleep tip - I think an ipad might be the way to go, that way I'm not disturbing Mr Man's sleep. My lack of sleep, lack of sun & all the seasonal hoopla is making me feeling a little too teary.

  4. Good for you for helping when asked. I agree that goodwill and not burning bridges is the better way :) I never could hold a grudge, even when I wanted to lol

I know the CS Lewis story but haven't read this book. I sometimes wake up at about that time and can't go back to sleep, too. Sometimes it's hard to ease and still my mind.

    1. I tend to start the cycle of brooding at 3am, going over the last day's things, last week's heck I even move into 5 years ago things ... I didn't mind helping my boss, it was never about not liking my job, it's just his management style of avoid avoid & ignore, besides I would not have the patients negativity impacted because he's a less than manager. I just hope there's no more "pleeeaaasssee" requests. (col).

  5. Saw "Becoming Mrs. Lewis" on the "Heather's Picks" table at Chapters but I think I will wait until the library has some copies. Ditto with the 3:30 wake up call - I usually toss and turn for an hour or so but eventually drop off again. Can't bear to get up while it is still dark!

    1. I had been on the waiting list at the library for this book for months & I'm the first to have - there's something wonderful about being the first to open the pages. I'm with you on the dark mornings but we are just about there , starting on Saturday we move to more light - yeah!

  7. Just catching up here. So sorry to read about the lack of sleep ... I've become a night-waker too, and not sure why. In the end I got up yesterday morning at five. The healthy eating plan sounds a good thing to be following at this time of year!

    1. Oh sleep is so difficult these days. I think mine is stress related plus I worry a lot, well actually it's brooding more than worrying ... Let's both put sleep improvement as a #1 Focus for 2019 :)
