TGIF - November 29th

Thanks Dr Brene Brown for this new take on an old acronym, TGIF to mean Trusting, Grateful, Inspired & Fun.

Trusting: that one of my sisters, who is traveling in the middle east, gets home safely, soon.  They had an encounter on the seas with pirates.

Grateful:  that the man we hired to rake all the leaves came out on a chance day to get all the lawns & gardens cleared of the wet packed mess that the leaves had become.  He's got all the proper equipment to make short work of this.

Inspired: by one of the elders at church.  She's an amazing lady of 80+ years & has given me some sound advice about taking risks in life.  She openly shared some of her risks taken & some risks she passed on & why/how the outcome of either choice shaped her life.  She's amazing, kind, funny, loving & I think she needs to write a book.  All her wisdom & stories have certainly inspired me to look at some of my own risk(s) pending.

Fun: a wonderfully too short a phone call (3 hours) with my best friend.  Grateful for phone plans!

  1. Lots of good things to be grateful for. I would be interested to hear that woman's advice on taking risks, as well. -Jenn

    1. Jenn I think I'll do a recap & post later in December. Because they aren't my stories, I won't be able to share all the details.

  2. I can't imagine an encounter with pirates in the Middle East. Once your sister returns, she's going to have lots of great stories! What a lovely gift the woman at your church shared with you. I hope it makes your decision making easier.

    1. This particular sister is bolder than I am & she is a wanderer so it holds her in good stead, but she's also in denial that some parts of the world are quite dangerous, especially for women. My church friend is a treasure & it was just in a causal off comment I made about waffling on a decision, that she invited me for tea to have a little chat. I've had 3 tea chats so far.

  3. Hoping that all will be well for your sister - that encounter sounds a little scary :(. How lovely to have such good friends and wise elders in one's life ... Hoping to read more about risks taken and not.

    1. My sister called family to say she's boarding her plane home - it's a relief. I am blessed to have these connections.

  4. Yes, we tend to think about pirates as a thing of the past. Sadly not so :( I hope your sister is soon home safe and sound.

    1. In that part of the world, just off the coast of Somalia, pirates are a daily occurrence & according to my sister, are treated as a nuisance more than as a threat; although security on passenger ships is at a maximum armed defense. Not the kind of trip, I'd go for.

  5. Oh for the opportunity to sit down with you and your elderly friend. I cherish such encounters. Glad she was there for you. I used to have 3-hour telecons, but sadly not for many years now. Have a great weekend!

    1. I think I'll try to recap all that she & I talked about, not this week, but I'll post about it. My best friend & I never miss a beat in our phone chats, it's like we just saw each other yesterday. I really miss her. She has promised to fly home to Ontario in June.

  6. Praying for a safe return for your sister. That's the sort of holiday experience nobody wants!

I too would be interested to hear more about the risk taking.

    1. I believe that just living a good life gives you lots of wisdom, I'm just trying to be wise by listening & heeding some of the advice.

    1. Sister is home safe & sound. She's already plan the next trip. She said the Middle East has ticked a travel box for her, but it's not a repeat (for her). She's hoping for China next! I cannot believe we are related but she is as fearless as I am timid, she wanders as much as I stay put. Maybe all those genes got used up on her - she's older (col).
