Me On A Monday - August 17th

Good Morning.  It's certainly a quiet time on the patio but off the patio, it's all a go about something in the little village:

The water is murky, long periods of heat has created prohibitive water to swim in.

The hounds are baying, the horses galloping, with the grain crops in, there's fields to roam for the hunt club but for some it's too early in the morning.

The T-rex are walking or waddling, I have no idea what T-rexes do.  I think there was laughter & no bitching complaints unless the Mother & Daughter's comments about the suits were too hot counts.

There are petitions to be signed; townsfolk are taking a stand against two art pieces installed, at tax payers expense, along our paved trail,  It is felt our water rates are too expensive & property taxes increase too much to "waste" on this .

I think I'll just stay home, with the doors & blinds closed & let the answer machine take messages.

“Ah! there is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. Nobody can be more devoted to home than I am.” – from the book Emma by Jane Austen

  1. There are warnings about the lakes in this area - Shearwater on the Longleat Estate has notified blue-green algae in the water which is toxic to humans and animals so access to that area is currently prohibited.

I'm with you on staying at home. I'm enjoying my own company and am restricting the number of outings I make. I think we are fairly safe in this area in terms of the number of cases, but too many people are behaving as if the crisis is over.

    1. I like my home, it certainly feels the safest place most days & I know I am truly blessed to have a home with garden so even in strict lockdown I can at least get outside.

  2. You can always rely on Jane Austen to hit the nail on the head!
I guess I can understand that when water rates and taxes are high, the installation of quirky sculptures can be a questionable necessity!

    1. I know that those art installations were ordered before lockdown but our rates have been extremely high for years. We pay more in taxes & water than the city next to us.

  3. Home is where the heart is, indeed. Hope you have had a lovely day safely inside, and that there were just enough things to make it feel special. Looking forward to seeing photos of the cake and scones! Many happy returns.

    1. Lady Ella thanks for the birthday wishes. I think I'll get star baker for the taste of my Victoria Sponge. No candles on the cake. I also made buttertarts, lemon cheesecake tarts.

  4. Sounds like there's quite a bit going on in your village! I'd elect to stay home, too, especially if there are T-rexes roaming about! :D

    1. The Mother Daughter duo are often up to things, thankfully this one was well received by the community, other things not so much! The Mother, especially has a way of ruffling feathers of many.

    1. I think this past week it was more of hide at home (lol). I do not mind being at home either in my garden or inside at my craft table.

  7. Why is it that public funded art always seems to be the most dubious? (And that was the kindest word that came to mind.)

We have a dubious sculpture that I shake my head about at our airport. I guess that is one blessing of the lockdown, I haven't had to see it since February.

    1. I think what bothers me about the art is that there was never any discussion of what it should be - it doesn't represent anything about this trail, this area. It just one day was installed so I think it's the surprise that is creating some of the discussion (for lack of a better word).

  8. There's nothing like public art to start a city kerfuffle. I also stay out of those. And now I have a good excuse to stay home :)

    1. No matter what I think about the art, it's a done deal, no refunds. Prediction is running high that it will soon be vandalized as it is on a trail that has no night lighting, no protection from the bored teens/young adults.

  9. It's always so annoying when your hard earned money is spent on unnecessary "Art Work".
We have a Clown near the beach and I always think it must have been a clown that thought it would be a good representation of the area!!

    1. I laughed at your clown comment. I've heard our township council referred to as a circus & it's clowns ...

  10. Re the T-Rex costumes, just one question - why?

    1. I think they think the T-Rex is funny ... there's all kinds of online vids of people dressed up as T-Rex & doing "stuff". I don't get it either.
