Greetings & Salutations on this very fine Monday morning. Locally we have been experiencing record breaking good weather - temperatures during the afternoon have reach +20 (c). On my morning walks I've had to only wear a very light jacket or sweater (jumper). Patio Pete, one of my chipmunk friends was out & I ensured he had a good feed of peanuts in the shell.

Currently Digesting: new COVID rating information. Our provincial government have moved us from ratings of stages to colour zones. The region I live in, has been designated as a Yellow Zone - Protect. Everyone is trying to figure out exactly what the colour zone restrictions are or aren't. And what does Protect mean? Very confusing & I must say I am very disappointed that our MPP and/or Premiere have not provided very much public information, along with some conflicting information. I finally found some charts explaining all the colour zone rules. (MPP = member of provincial parliament vs an MP = member of parliament at the federal level). Like every where, our numbers of new infections are rising dramatically & I feel so disappointed in my fellow members of society. New restrictions imposed are not the government's fault, it's ours!

Currently Reading: I finished up Nine Women, 1 Dress; it was OK, didn't particularly bond with the characters & Eliza Starts A Rumor; which I did like. Both of these books could be beach reads, but since we are now in the Autumn/Winter cycle of reading, I designate them as cocoa reads. I'm in the middle of Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield; not bonding with anyone, but I'm pushing through. I am waiting on Matthew McConaughey's book; Greenlights. I am not a huge fan of his acting work, but I recently saw two interviews with him about this book & I must admit I was intrigued by his thoughts about green lights in our lives.
Currently Impressed: with Mr Man's ability of fixing things. With not a lot to do during COVID limited activities, Mr Man took on fixing the mantel clock we inherited from his Grandparents. It is now chiming out the hour & half hour. His job, his nature, his passion is to fix things ... & yes we are now watching The Repair Shop!
Currently Technology Frustrated: I set up an Instagram account although I have not posted any photos & when I went to see what my December Daily Friend, Mel, had posted, I was told by Insta that I did not have an account, so I tried to set up & it told me that account was already in use, so I asked to reset the password, no account found - I cannot repeat here what language came out of my mouth. I went around in technology hell for quite awhile. Anyway my card making friend, S, took pity on me & is letting me use her Insta account - yes I know we shouldn't share passwords, but it's not like I'm going to post any thing, I just want to see what Mel is creating. Mind you, I may have clicked on a fair few following tabs!! Insta friend won't mind (wink wink).
Currently - OLW: This month's assignment (please note I have not signed up to any official workshops online or otherwise) is making a review of how this OLW was working & what pushes can I make before the year's end. I must admit I haven't spend a lot of time working in my OLW album or even for that matter working with my word - Nourish. Will I pick a word for 2021? Probably; maybe; yes.
Currently Planting : I finally got my pink & white daffodils planted in pots. I have sprinkled the top of the soil with blood bone meal to discourage the hungry squirrels. I will move the three pots into the garage next week. I'm letting the pots enjoy the last of the good before nasty, weather. My roses have all been hilled up with their little Styrofoam huts on; settling in for that long winter's nap.

Pink and white daffs? How unusual! I am going to have to see if I can find some of those. We had a raised bed built when we had our decking laid and I am trying to keep a pink and white theme in it so these would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteSeems like everywhere in the world is confused about how to deal with covid, they really should make things much clearer. Every country is doing something slightly different but none have found the answer.
We love the Repair Shop too and I was thrilled to visit the actual barns when we went away in September (sadly they weren't filming that day) - it is a fascinating programme isn't it?
We are enjoying The Repair Shop although right now we get a shorten version. The promise is to move to the full hour by end of November. I like some of the back stories on the items. The W H O is still not providing enough (strong) leadership IMO.
DeleteWell, I am glad to hear you are in yellow - that in itself is a blessing. I agree that understanding what all the stages actually mean is a bit frustrating - but as you said, it all comes down to what we individually and collectively do. I too am disappointed in us - and no more so than when I go to church and see the utter disregard for one another by not wearing a mask. That behavior in that place reeks of hypocrisy. Can you tell it's a hot button issue for me. Well, back to other things, congrats to Mr. Man on the clock repair. We have mixed results on trying such things around here, so we tip our hat to him.
ReplyDeleteI have not yet returned to in person church services for the very reason that while masks are mandatory during the service, many forget it is important to keep them on before & after the service. This morning they are telling us in our region, like naughty school children, if we don't bring the new infection rates down, by week's end, we will be in orange - it's not a colour I like.
DeleteI've never seen (nor heard of) a pink and white daffodil! Looking forward to photos next spring of yours. After having one of the lowest COVID rates in the country, we've moved on to being one of the areas with rapidly rising cases. We're expecting news from Albany today about restrictions. Most of it seems to have come from young adults partying around Halloween. Then, of course, they spread it around. Our church remains virtual. I participated in a service two weeks ago, that was live-streamed. Everyone wore masks, and everyone was socially distanced. Our sanctuary which holds around 400, is limited to 50 for memorial services and weddings. I've no desire to return for services until we're much better situated. I have friends, however, who are anxious to return. The warm weather allowed us to see a couple more friends outdoors before we all pile inside to hibernate for the winter. I'm thinking I'll try to arrange Zoom meetings. I had one last week with a friend in New Mexico, and we had such a good time we set another date!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you are discovering the benefits of Zoom. I haven't set up a Zoom meeting yet, but I participate in many. There's a whole set of "Zoom manners" read out at the beginning of my bible study group. I miss in person services but I do not think I'll be rushing back anytime soon. We set new records for new cases of infection today in the province. These records are not for bragging rights!

ReplyDeleteOh gosh, hoping that you manage to stay in the yellow zone ... Rates locally rising fast here too in our rural area, and I feel so frustrated that people will simply not observe the rules any more. How hard is it to remember: keep your distance and wear a mask! We are all in a national lockdown till December but very little is different for those of us who live quietly in any case. Your daffodils look lovely and will be really pretty in Spring; I'm planning to get mine into the ground and into pots this week. It's the tulip bulbs the squirrels really go for here - apparently cayenne pepper is a great deterrent!
ReplyDeleteNO NO to cayenne pepper, blood bone meal is much better & it's food for the bulbs & won't harm the creatives. I think people are forgetting that anywhere, whether colour zones or stages are all fluid & it is entirely up to us to keep new infection cases low. Strong leadership I believe is key.

ReplyDeleteand the worse part of the colour coding is that people that I've talked to think it is fixed - no it's most certainly fluid & can change. I believe John Tory asked for Toronto to be delayed in moving to orange for an additional 7 days. Peel Regional is Red & Brampton super Red with extra restrictions - all wedding receptions & parities cancelled until January 2021. I am still trying to find a reliable source for updates - I'll share with you if I find :)

ReplyDeleteI am surprised by the number of people saying they haven't seen pink & white daffodils; we get so many variations of pink & white, pink & yellow & every shade of white & yellow. I wonder if this is a Canadian thing??!! I didn't dislike Nine Dresses, I just didn't really connect with the ladies, but I did in Eliza Starts A Rumour, so that's good :)

ReplyDeleteThe clock adds such a lovely sound element to the home. We do have to be very careful not to over wind the clock, so I'm leaving that task to Mr Man, I tend to be too enthusiastic about it.
