Me On A Monday - February 15th

Celebrating two things today; Family Day & Flag Day.

Currently Rejoicing:  As of Tuesday, our region moves from total lock down / stay at home, to Red Control Zone, which means a few things can open up with restrictions & one of those things that can open is hair salons.  The lady that cuts our hair emailed me on Saturday to "offer" us a spot this week, which we eagerly took.  Her business is in her home so I feel very safe going there.  "T" has always been very diligent about cleaning even before COVID times.  BUT, the weather forecast is for lots & lots of snow this week, (possibility of 30cm by Tuesday evening) so we might end up cancelling our appointments.

Currently ReadingGreen Lights by Matthew McConaughey. I picked this book because I saw Matthew interviewed twice for this book & he was quite interesting & he spoke so well.  So you cannot image my disappointment in reading this book.  I am not keen on his writing style, I find disjointed & chopey & I certainly am having great difficulty caring about his family, specifically his parents.  As Matthew writes it, they sound quite physically abusive.

President Obama's latest, A Promised Land, it reads very much like the man himself speaks; kind, deliberate & a tad on the slow side.  I am enjoying, although I read in short 20-30 minute sessions. It's a big book so I think it will take me the full 3 weeks that I have the book on loan for.

Currently Crafting:  I continue with motivation of the 100 Day Project, although I am not at the craft table every day. I am wading through a back log of Christmas layouts & some misc. layouts along with last summer's pool time photos.

I also caught up with my garden album layouts for January.

And I leave you with this thought of mine ... because of lock downs, pandemic restrictions, I feel like I am living a verb-less life.

  1. Oh moving down a level of restrictions must feel great. I really hope that you get to go to your hairdressing appointment. I'm not sure when we will get that 'luxury' back. We will apparently be told the 'roadmap' of lifting restrictions next Monday. Must admit that feels as if this lockdown is going on forever with no end in sight. However, every day brings us one step closer I guess!

    1. I think lockdowns will be part of life for at least another year with COVID-19. Toronto which is the provincial capital & the largest city in Ontario, stays on total lockdown until Feb 22nd but we all know they will be out visiting us this week, which will drive up numbers up.

  2. We are fortunate to be going Green tomorrow, but it won't change my life very much.

    1. I wonder how many outliers will be visiting your area either from southern Ontario or Quebec? Doug told us not to count on staying out of another total lockdown because of the variants in COVID. It's sad our milestone use to be cases below 100, now it is cases below 1,000. We will probably see a lot of Toronto, Hamilton visitors.

  3. Oh, for the hint of a haircut! I am now about 5 weeks overdue and I'm feeling it (first world problem, obviously). I think we're due an update from Boris next Monday re restrictions versus reopenings.

Lovely to see a hint of a layout appearing. :)

    1. I felt very discouraged when on the weekend our provincial Premiere said it is likely we will revert back to a total lockdown by end of March because of the new variants. Canada is so behind in vaccines ... I'll say no more for now.

  4. Happy Monday (& Flag Day & Family Day)! I haven't had a hair cut in a year now, but it's ok. Since my hair is straight and I've worn it long for years, it's working fine & I just trim my bangs when they need it. I've done most of Robbie's haircuts during the year. He got a few times, but finally we bought a nice set of clippers & I'm getting pretty good at it now. (Well, there was the first attempt when it was really (really!) short. LOL)

It seems so strange that we've never really been in lock down here. We have chosen to stay home practically all the time, but most of the people we know are just going about their lives, eating out when things are open, picking up drive through, shopping, visiting, traveling, going to church, working, etc. The vaccines are rolling out, but so far only for health care workers, over 65 years of age, and those with chronic illnesses. Some states are also including those who work in education. Appointments are hard to get & people are stalking the internet sites to sign up. We won't be eligible for a while anyway, so just staying busy and active here at home, avoiding the news ... and today staying warm during the snow storm.

    1. So far we cannot make appts for vaccines but have to wait to be contacted by our regional health units, but that may change. I think it will be late Autumn by the time our turn comes. We have lived in & out of mandatory lockdowns or restrictions since early last March. It has become a way of life (sadly). We have also been in mandatory mask wearing since last June, which seems so normal now.

  5. My last hair cut was back at the beginning of November. I was booked to have one just after Christmas but we went into lockdown so that was cancelled and I'm still waiting. I hope you do manage to get to your hairdresser - not only something to look forward to but something that'll help cheer you both up.

    1. The weather is looking worse as the movement of the storm is moving slower than anticipated. I just hoping that it breaks up all together by Thursday. I do look rather shaggy, but I must admit, the longer length is easy to take care of it a pony tail style.

  6. Congratulations on fewer restrictions! It's a hopeful sign :)

    1. The move to Red Control is I am sure going to be short lived - the variants are really picking up in Ontario & the vaccines are slow to arrive for distribution.

  7. Glad to see the review of Greenlights, as I've been seeing it on lists and didn't know much about it. MY list is ever so long, so it's a good thing not to be adding to it. Lots of snow expected here in the next day and a half, too. Tracy gets his vaccine today before the storm hits, and I'm scheduled for Thursday---hopefully all will be clear by then.

    1. Do you know which brand of vaccine you are getting? Oh do let us know how you & Tracy make out with it. At this point, I would say there's no recommendation from me for Greenlights & I am disappointed.

  8. I like your Snow Falling layout and the paper you used. We've had some of our restrictions lifted, but, I am not planning on going out to eat, etc. I'm sorry you are feeling that you are living a verb-less life, though. I guess you are "being" instead of "doing", but, in my opinion, "being" is also a verb. :)

    1. Thanks Bless, the Snow Falling paper has glitter embedded in it & it's quite pretty & thankfully the glitter stays put on the page. When I say verb-less, I do mean that I'm not doing anything, no activity other than what I can do inside; cold, snow & the COVID virus all swirling about. But I do give thanks for being inspite of it all.

  9. Lovely scrapbook pages, and yes, the verbs are very restricted at the moment: eating, sleeping, thinking (too much) cleaning, repeat...! I've had one haircut in the past 12 months and my hair quality pays witness to that! But it's a small priority in the scheme of things. 30 cms is a lot of snow - I'd like to experience once but I can see that it will be a big inconvenience for you if it comes at the wrong time and for too long.

    1. Thanks Lady Ella. The snow can be very pretty & I like it when I don't have to go anywhere by car, I am not a confident winter driver. Being somewhat verb-less is only temporary (col).

  10. Things sound a bit bleak for you, and you're clearly not expecting much improvement in the immediate future :(. Though there might be a smidgen of hope in the changing of the zone? We well know how temporary these things can be though ... Hoping that the verb-less feeling doesn't last too long. Your layout of the snow pics is very pretty - I've been at a loss as to how to proceed with my photobook because there are only so many snow pics of the same limited walks you can put in! We have rubber soles with metal spikes which you pull on over the soles of your winter boots and they've been great in giving a solid grip, so despite the inches of thick ice on the roads and pavements, we've been able to get out and walk. Sending warmest good wishes and hoping there are some bright spots in your week :).

    1. Thank you Alexa for those warm good wishes. We also have those spiked slip over the boots things, although I think I got the wrong size for my boots, mine keep slipping off. I agree, there's only so many "pretty" winter photos you can take (col).

  11. A verb-less life, yes, I know what you mean. And all the adjectives seem dull as well. But sooner or later it has to end. Yes, it does! Good to see you scrapbooking, honestly that is the only consistent verb in my life these days.

    1. Mr Man & I are both feeling ready to burst with these lockdowns & restrictions knowing full well we are more than blessed with where we are; it doesn't make it any less difficult though. Yes crafting is my go to verb activity.

  12. Lucky you being able to get a haircut. I haven't had mine cut sine November and it's a little longer than normal but manageable so an extra few weeks won't hurt.
Hopefully it won't be too long until Canada gets on the vaccine train and you can get back to a proper routine. :0)

    1. If our hairdresser was in a salon, I would re-think the appt. but it is in her home, so I am feeling a little more confident. Pfizer keeps promising us. We are waiting to hear if the EU's tantrum with tariffs will affect our shipments.
