Me On A Monday - July 18th

Good Morning, I trust that everyone had a good weekend & that you were able to find some respite from the extreme heat & humidity.

As I've got nothing exciting to check in with; it's hot, its dry, COVID numbers are rising, gas prices are settling down, food prices continue to be outrageous,  there's nothing on TV, waiting on several books from the library & I think it's too early to call these the dog days of summer.

SO, I thought I'd share some photos of my daylilies. In my opinion, daylilies are some of the best summer perennial garden flowers - they certainly make me happy.  Here are five different D/L - they are in full stride of their glory.

See you with some wisdom on Wednesday.  Stay cool, stay hydrated.

  1. That is very wise advice - here in the UK we are expecting the highest temperatures ever recorded in the next few days :-(

    1. The humidity is what makes our high temperatures so unbearable; now if we could only get Mother Nature to turn the air moisture into rain ... it is SO dry in the fields & gardens.

  2. Lovely flower snapshots. Our numbers of cases are rising too, but this variant of the previous variant seems to be milder yet. We do watch the numbers carefully at the assisted living center where MIL resides -- they have just had cases among the staff so far, but it is only a matter of time before some of the residents get it.

    1. Thanks Suszanne, I've been "collecting" daylilies for a few years now & many I buy are based on (1) colour (pinks, peaches, lemon yellows) & then the name. The variant we are dealing with in our region is the Omicron BA.5 which apparently is causing more illness than BA.4 & much more infectious to boot. I'm crawling back into my COVID Coccoon.

  3. I love the day lilies but sadly don't have room for them. They're beautiful!

    1. The daylilies certainly like to spread out once established. And even though each flower only lasts a day, thankfully many of mine are "well established" & have many many buds so days of enjoyment :)

  4. Daylilies do so well here being basically an native species. You have some wonderful cultivars.

    1. The daylily breeders have come a long way since the orange "ditch" or "privy" daylilies. There is a daylily breeder locally & I so enjoy when he opens his fields up for tours late July, early August.

    1. Thank you. There are so many shades & bi colours to choose from these days.

  6. Ooh a tour of daylily fields must be a sight to behold! Last I heard (last week) our COVID rates in this area were 1/15 people. But everyone is as blase as ever! I continue to behave as I did when we exited the last lockdown ... my only dilemma at the moment is an upcoming funeral, but I still have time to decide.

    1. I can imagine the annex of attending your dear friend's funeral with wanting to keep your self safe especially since you do so much for your parents. I'll send good vibes to keep a bubble of health around you for either way you decide. Fields of daylilies are beautiful but also create such conflict of wanting more but having no space, but oh I must have ...

    1. Daylilies for the most part are SO easy to care for & reward big time.

  8. Your daylilies are beautiful! I had some growing in my garden at one time, but, like so many other plants of mine, they died out! Stay cool and safe during the heat and rising Covid numbers!

    1. Thanks Bless. Daylilies are one plant I have had great success with but I must give their nature true credit. Maybe no daylilies for you but you do grow a lot of beautiful fruit trees & plants & while daylilies apparently are edible I've yet to chow down on any :)

  9. Beautiful lilies! The heat has just arrived here. We're busy with family, but I'm also doing lots of reading since Sarah brought me a stack of books she'd already finished, I don't think I often read speculative fiction, but I really enjoyed This Time Tomorrow, and I loved The Cartographers. The Measure is the same genre and I'm well into that as well. I would have never picked that one up if she hadn't recommended it, and I'm really liking it, too. Still have two more of her books to read, but I won't finish them in time for her to take them home with her. Stay cool. "See you" tomorrow.

    1. Karen, thanks for the book referrals. Reading is such a joy & for me often the after midnight & I can't sleep balm. I have a few never bloomed before daylilies making their appearance in the garden. Even in this extreme heat & humidity they seem to thrive.
