Memos, Mail, Me: It's Monday February 6th

Giving a Monday greeting to all & linking in with our hostess Sian at:   From High In The Sky

New mail this week included something I like to think as delivered by The Universe.

I found these two photocopied sheets in a book I borrowed from the library.  They were not copies made from this particular book. The  last person that borrowed the book was in 2013 & it shows the date information on one sheet is 4/3/2013 9:12AM.  One sheet is about Authenticity is a daily practice & a list of the authenticity daily practices from Dr Brene Brown (who is an author I greatly admired).  The other sheet does not indicate from which book it is photocopied from, just shows pages 182 & 183, but it too is about being authentic within friendships.  What I take from the overall messages are that being yourself brings connection, grace, joy & gratitude into our lives.  Thanks Universe for this mail.

Other mail on Friday included flyers about body well being.  Several of the local grocery stores now offer in store dietitian counseling & the Eat How You Want To Feel is their publication.
Several levels of government are getting involved in the diet of the people.  Not sure how I am feeling about this, but it seems (& I cannot argue with the logic) the obesity levels are still on the rise.
So all fast food places must list the calorie intake of each food item & already there is a drop in the purchase of upsized drinks, fries & other treats, so maybe government intervention is a positive thing.

On the happy news front, Mr Man received an all healed & the OK to return to work from the eye surgeon at his Friday appointment.  Mr Man does need to take some drops twice a day for 2 weeks & follow up with our local eye specialist.  NO MORE TORONTO VISITS!

Over the last year we drove to this Toronto hospital 19 times, 2 visits were surgeries. Every appointment was between 7:00am & 8:00am. Each drive was 174 kilometers roundtrip; each time we drove on 7 major highways & one of those highways, The Gardiner Expressway at some points were 7 lanes across in one direction (14 to/fro lanes). I drove 9 of those times.  I think we consumed about 36 cups of hospital tea, 10 raisin tea biscuits; 4 donuts.  Thankfully the hospital waiting areas had very current magazines & I was able to glean at least 4 new recipes.  Thankful for such good medical care & great doctors & hospital staff, but SO thankful the end results are good & that we do not have to go back!  Now this is the way to start a Monday.

  1. That must be a relief for both your husband and yourself. I would have been pretty apprehensive driving into Toronto like that, but I suppose after the first couple of trips you got to know where to go? -Jenn

    1. Thanks Jenn. I do not think I ever relaxed while driving in Toronto. So much to watch for, cars, streetcars, trucks, buses, cyclists, pedestrians, signs, when you can or cannot do turns - just glad we (me) don't have to go back for a while.

  2. The news from the eye surgeon counts as the happiest "mail" I've read about this week---and probably will outdo our happy mail for quite some time. Mr. Man must be so relieved; I know you are. Not all restaurants here list calorie counts, but I must admit, when they do they definitely influence my choices. I think it's a very good thing.

    1. Thanks Karen & I am glad this counts as something to cheer you. The restaurants now have to post the calorie count beside each food item both in the menus & on any boards of posted foods. I think some are finding it quite expensive to comply. It really influences my choice if we are eating out.

  4. That's fantastic news! Hurray!

I like your mail from your library book. Now that's my kind of post. Once I bought a second hand book about making dolls clothes and when I opened it up, lots of already traced patterns fluttered out of it. That was cool.

    Wishing you a great week

    1. Thanks Sian. I have requested Dr Brown's book that one of the two sheets is from, I think The Universe is requesting I search out more about this. Cool about getting those free patterns.

  5. I love the statistics of your visits but the main thing is that he is better. So pleased to hear that.

    1. I did a scrapbook page about the driving to/from the hospital with some stats info, it was / is such a major life alternating situation. Really makes me appreciate sight.

  6. Phew, you must both be relieved after surviving such a marathon set of numbers. Delighted by such good news! That's a good slogan (Eat How You Want To Feel) - I can see why it might grab people where other campaigns pass them by. What a serendipitous find in the library book ...

    1. I have the poster of Eat How You Want To Feel tacked on to the frig for inspiration of NOT opening so often. I am now listening to what I am suppose to do with the information on those found sheets.

    1. I think one of my favourite Brene moments is when she was interviewed by Oprah & Oprah was SO taken with her, had her stay over for a 2nd day of interview. I often revisit her Ted talks.

  12. Glad Mr. Man's eyes are healing so well. 7 lanes each way, that is something I have never seen, I think 6 each way is the max and that's was several hundred miles away from where I live. As far as the government goes, I'd prefer they educate and suggest, but not mandate what I eat. At some point, we have to be responsible for our own choices.
