Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday April 10th

A big Monday wave to all & linking in with our hostess, Sian at:  From High In The Sky

There was no mail to speak of this week, I think one or two flyers for internet services

New adventure; we took some time off the patio & attended festivities in Fergus for Tartan Day.  The weather was most co-operative with sunshine & warmer temperatures.

We watched some highland dancing or what seemed to be more highland flinging by some of the little bitty ones - so cute.

We had tea & scones at a,  if memory services me, a new to us tea room - Bentley's.  The brown sugar cinnamon scones were just out of the oven so still warm - oh yes.  Mr Man said that they tasted like another, he did, I didn't  ... and they had many variety of teas.  We settled on their house black tea blend.  Very satisfying.
When the lady put our tea pot down on the table, she also brought a tea timer with her.  This was new to us.  It was a 3 sand sphere timer, each with different sized & amount of sand.  Each individual hour glass represented a different strength of the tea - green was weaker, brown mid strength & white was for the builders type tea.  Mr Man was so taken with this gadget that he bought one for us.

We finally got to see Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. We thought that Dan Fogler as Jacob was quite a good character. Overall neither of us liked the movie & were very disappointed, normally I like Eddy Redmayne but he mumbled throughout the whole movie!

I hope everyone has a marvelous week ahead.

A post script to Tartan Day:  it is celebrated world wide & on several different days.  We in Canada don't celebrate Tartan Day on July 1st because that is our nation's birthday.

Tartan Day is all about The Act of Proscription (19 Geo. 2, c. 39) was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain, which came into effect in Scotland on 1 August 1746. It was part of a series of efforts to assimilate the Scottish Highlands, ending their ability to revolt, and the first of the 'King's laws' which sought to crush the Clan system in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising of 1745. These laws were finally repealed on 1 July 1782.

    1. Jenn, we are finding Fergus suffering the blight of so many small towns, so few bricks & mortar stores open. I think the tea timer is a treat, so far 2 of pots have been brewed to perfection!

    1. I just wanted to go hug each of those little bitty dancers. I think it's time to haul out my recipes for scones & make a batch at home, that way we can have seconds or thirds!

  3. Now a video of those little dancers would have gone down well. The tea timer is a novel idea. A good gift for tea drinking friends.

    1. I am enjoying my tea timer to no end - perfect pots of tea, brewed to perfection. I thought of using my iphone video but the parents were jostling everyone out of the way to get their own videos, so I think it would have been quite blurred

  4. I had no idea it was Tartan Day! Or is that just a local thing? Sounds like fun all the same. I'm sorry the film wasn't your cup of tea (see what I did there) I loved it simply for the clothes and the sets which I thought were stunning.

Have a great week enjoying your perfectly timed cuppa

    1. I am not sure about Tartan Day world wide - but every year Fergus goes all out for celebrations. I am amazed at the number of men in kilts! We go to celebrate Mr Man's maternal heritage. I really wanted to like Beasts; I agree the clothes, the sets were simply amazing.

  5. Tartan Day? That's a new one to me! I've never seen a three timer tea timer either - so lots of new things from the Patio today!

    1. Well Deb I am glad to have brought you lots of new today (col). I haven't heard about Tartan Day anywhere else, but that's not to say it isn't. Remember on this day you get to tilt your kilt. (what every that means, I have no idea).

  6. Those dancers are adorable! What a lovely way to spend a day. We have a new tea/breakfast/lunch place near us. They bring the tea with a cute timer as well, but only one. I like the idea of three. I've also never heard of Tartan Day--my something new for the day.

    1. I have been reading up more & more Tartan Day, some things I have read indicate Canada took a lead in celebrating - one of our eastern provinces, Nova Scotia means New Scotland & have their own tartan so I would not be surprised if some of the celebration just migrated west.

  7. It's official: the pint-sized dancers are cheek-pinchingly cute!
I have never seen a timer like that either - which of the three do you heed? I should get it for my friend who sets his oven timer to three minutes to wait for a pot of tea to be "ready". True story. But then I suppose he has his fail-safe method and doesn't need this!
I've heard several people give poor reviews of FBAWTFT, and now you - I'm not tempted.

    1. I like my tea in the middle - builder's tea always seems to bite me back. The timer is called Thames Oasis Perfect Sand Tea Timer made by G&H Tea Services (G+Htea@metrotea.com). I really wanted to like FBAWTFT ...

  8. Oh how interesting!
Hubby's ancestors were chased from the isle of Skye. They immigrated to Nova Scotia before coming to the USA so I'll be sure to share your post with him. Thanks!

    1. Don't you just love our families history? Our maritime provinces have such a rich Celtic history, but of course Canada is rich with English & French settlement & some, but not too much of the Spanish influence.
