This week what I noticed when I was weeding in the garden is the invasion of violets - they are everywhere! In the garden where they are crowding out other on purposed planted plants, they are in the lawn, making Mr Man a little ticked (I'll say no more about that).
While I think the flowers are really delicate & pretty, their roots are very deep & so to remove you have to really dig down & gently pull so you get all the root, otherwise you just get the plant growing again. I know who gave me the original Mother plant & really she was an experienced gardener giving to a novice,me, she should have told me how invasion these little darlings are.

How can you be concerned about such lovely flowers? Oh to lie in a lawn of violets!
ReplyDeleteCOL - what's that saying, one person's treasure another person's trash ... as I pick the flowers for a lovely little bunch I shall think of you lying in amongst the violets.
DeleteI don't mind them, but our lawn is not going to win any prizes anyway. The most invasive plant I have is lily of the valley. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteOh Jenn don't get me started on how invasive the Lily of the Valley is - the same person that gave me the violets gave me lily of the valley along with snow on the mountain, another invader. I think she really didn't like me! Beware of looking for free garden handouts is now my motto.
DeletePerfect quote for this post! They would drive me crazy too. We have some other plant, can't remember the name, that goes everywhere. I have gotten rid of the originals and just keep "weeding" away at what remains.
ReplyDeleteThere are areas where I have gotten rid of all the violets but I think having them in the lawn is the worse & hardest to get rid of. For now I will pick the flowers & enjoy then worry about ripping them out.
DeleteI have them in my garden here too.... they seem to thrive in any conditions...and they are quite pretty even though they take over.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to be totally angry at such a pretty flower, if they stayed in their area I would have no problem with them. It's the same for lily of the valley, just adore the flower hate the invasion of the plant ...

ReplyDeleteI picked a lovely nosegay again this morning of the violets, yes hard to be annoyed with such a flower :)
DeleteViolets are invasive, but prettier and less invasive than this yellow creeping vine winding it's way through my perennial bed. I spent nearly an hour hacking away at the roots, and pulling it out today. But I know I'll never get it all!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why some of these invaders which are natural to the area do so well rather than the chosen planted ones. Your yellow invader does sound nasty, so I wish you good luck with the battle on conquering it.
