Take Three Thursday - Oh So Disappointing

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in. What have you noticed this week?

Let's see what other have noticed:

This week my three are throw backs to more of our water fall hunting times.   This particular waterfall, Devil's Punchbowl,  has to be hands down the most disappointing & the hardest to get to waterfall.  After a really long arduous walk, through some very pretty woods, we came to the bottom of the waterfall only to find a small pool of dirty smelly water, filled with debris, shopping carts, tires - what a let down.  The amount of water coming over the falls was like someone standing at the top spitting down.

We later found that there was a viewing platform up top.  We have since visited this waterfall but only from the viewing platform to see a little more water coming over.  It is one of the first in the region to dry up in summer.

I have included a photo from the Internet that shows Devil's Punchbowl with much more water coming over it.

  1. That's the sort of luck I'd have! I'm hoping to get to a couple a waterfalls in August when I go to Wales. Fingers crossed they will live up to expectations.

    1. I'll keep my fingers crossed that there will have been ample rainfall prior to your trip ...

  2. Oh, that is a sad, sad waterfall! Try Inglis Falls in Owen Sound, or maybe Eugenia Falls. -Jenn

    1. Thanks Jenn, we have been to them & we were fortunate enough to have lots of water at those ones. So far our Ontario waterfall count is about 100; some were more like ripples than actual falls, but I am still in awe of the beauty we have right here in southern Ontario. ... Mary-Lou =^..^=

  3. When we were in Yosemite, they were having a drought. There was very little water coming over Bridalveil Falls. It was still lovely, and it wasn't until later when I saw photographs that I realized what we had missed!

    1. A lot of the falls are best seen in spring because of the ample rainfall amounts & because most can be seen better without all the tree foliage. We have a Bridal Veil Falls on Manitoulin Island (northern Ontario).

  4. Not quite the waterfall you were expecting to see! How disappointing.
We have a Devil's Punchbowl in England too, but it's nothing like a waterfall! It's an area of natural beauty owned by the National Trust.

    1. Once I got over the disappointment of the waterfall, I focused on the beauty of the area, the amazing rock cut through by the water. I must go check out England's Devil's Punchbowl.

  5. The rock formations are spectacular, but I share your disappointment at not having seen the falls. Great photo off the net. Definitely one for the bucket list!
I'd like to know what heathens think it's OK to dump tyres and shopping trolleys in this place ... and have the energy to cart them up there. Grrr!

    1. There are some amazing rock faces at all the waterfalls that we have seen. I hate that people just toss garbage about, especially when we have in this province lots of free waster & recycling places - it's just disrespect & laziness.

  6. Weather and time of year affect the falls -we've been fortunate with the falls we've seen- but trash! I hope they clean it up, because that just ruins the view no matter how much water there is :( Those rock layers are worth a trip, I think, and you got such great photos :)

    1. We usually don't going "hunting" for waterfalls in July or August as it is often dry as old rocks. We try to time it before the black flies in spring.

    2. Our vacations aren't timed around whatever falls are close, so it's hit or miss. But we have been lucky.

  7. It is always sad when we see beautiful nature tarnished by disrespectful people!!

    1. I hate all the garbage we find in the walks we take, we have taken to carrying a big garbage bag with us. The worst has to be the dog people who do pick up the dog's poop but then leave the filled bag on a tree or shrub branch - that's just so lazy.

  8. Oh that is so disappointing! It makes you wonder who hauled a shopping cart out there, doesn't it.

    1. I am not 100% certain but I think the shopping cart & tires are tossed into the top of the waterfalls - we watched some teen boys throw stuff in at the top & the group at the bottom wooted & shouted as it crashed at the bottom (jerks).
