Reading: a little book, God's Debris: A Thought Experiment, written by Scott Adams of Dilbert fame. I've said a lot of "What" & "oh" out loud while reading. It's got some interesting ideas (?).
Pondering: our little village has had several very sad losses in a week; a terrible car crash & a suicide. I did not know the 3 car crash victims but I did know the young man that took his own life. His twin brother is beyond devastated, his parents in shock.
Visited: I sat on this porch again having several mugs of tea & great conversations.
Post Thanksgiving Grateful: I was able to stock up on my Gardein Savory Stuff Turk'y. These are only available at Thanksgiving & Christmas, each time for about 2 weeks.

Spending: on a new roof. I don't like having a bin parked on the driveway for over a week, but a necessary tool of the work. Hopefully the rain passes us by on Monday so the work can be finished. Amazed by the detail of the three ladies doing the work. We found this company of women home renovations business. They did the repairs & improvements in our garage of which Mr Man was very impressed with. So far Mr Man is all praise of their roofing skills & work. Me, I'll be glad to have the banging all done & the bin taken away.
Sad In Comparison: I was trimming back the gardens when I remembered the SPSH lushness of green from this area - not any more.
"if you feel like you are loosing everything, remember that trees lose their leaves every year & they still stand tall & wait for better days to come." internet
I know exactly what you mean about not wanting the bin on your drive ... i feel exactly the same (as it means I have to park my car on the road) and will be so relieved when it's gone. It'll be worth it in the end though, for both of us. Is it a complete re-roofing?
ReplyDeleteEileen - yes a complete re-roofing. Thankfully the under wood of the roof is all in good shape so no repairs to that part, it's just the underlay & shingles being replaced. No work today - rain is forecast at 80% :(
DeleteI've not heard about the losses. I can't imagine a twin losing their other half. That is a beautiful home you visited - so charming and cozy looking. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThe car crash site has seen at least 4 this summer, but this is the first in a couple of years at the sight of loss of life, very winding downhill road & drivers usually take too fast.
DeleteSuch tragedies make me more than ever grateful for every day. I think they hit especially hard in a small, tight-knit community. (I grew up in a village of less than 800 people.) I remember all too well the year we had our roof replaced. They had to take off three layers before the new one went on. I seemed to take forever! (And our attic was a huge mess when they were done.)
ReplyDeleteWhen people complain about getting older on their birthday, not to be a downer but I remind them that getting older is a privilege denied to many. The weather is not helping getting this job done - rain & high winds - Mother Nature & I are going to have an argument!
DeleteWhat a tragedy for your community :(
ReplyDeleteRoof replacement is so noisy! That porch looks like a delightful spot to enjoy the outdoors. I love porches. You can even sit outside when it rains :)
My friend's porch will soon be unavailable to me as she is moving away :( I would like a front porch - maybe one day ...
DeleteSad news for your town, and it is hard to contemplate how the twin is managing to cope with losing their 'other half'.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the rain does not interrupt the work on your roof for too long.
Rain & now high winds that are suppose to be around for the next 7-10 days - thanks Mother Nature for making a difficult job even more difficult. I cannot imagine the loss a twin would feel. I've lost siblings & it was/is difficult at times.

ReplyDeleteHow very sad, about the deaths. Suicide is always such a terribly difficult thing to come to terms with - a tragedy in its true sense. And to leave a twin!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I'm too far away to employ your recommended renovators...
I think that Jodie (owner of the reno company) would enjoy a trip overseas but not until she finishes our roof! (col). It's difficult to find reliable trades people, one that returns calls & actually does the work. We have no complaints as to the quality of her work.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about the young person taking his life in your community. Living near a military base, suicide has become a very serious issue in this area. It's a crisis in our county among youth and military.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that farmers in Australian are taking their own lives at a phenomenal rate, which is SO sad. In a world when we have so many gadgets & electronics to connect us, we are a drift & feeling alone - sad, oh so sad.
DeleteLoss of life in a community is sad for everyone especially when it is sudden and perhaps avoidable.
ReplyDeleteI delivered a note to one of the two log cabins that we rent out and commented that I could quite easily sit on their porch all afternoon in the sunshine.
Snap! We are having a new roof on the main farmhouse. I will blog about the changes at sometime. Fortunately we have no skip!
As I sit on this friend's porch it really makes me long for my own porch. I've read that there is a community in Ontario that builds all new homes with a porch as a way to encourage a sense of community because people will sit out front & perhaps wave hello to their neighbours out & about - I like that idea.
