The Corn Stubble - Some of It is Flatten |
Currently enjoying participating in the kid's community scavenger hunts, twice a week. Last Friday it was teddy bears that were needed in the window. Our community F/B page, posts what dates the walks are scheduled & what the kids are looking for. I was able to get my 4 bears dressed & in the window by 8am on Friday.
Currently clapping at 7:30pm every night to show our local nurses, doctors & front line responders how much we appreciate them. Across the street from us is a nurse, so when's she has her shade down, I know she's sleeping, so I clap softly so as not to disturb; she needs her rest. It's them, our help care workers we are celebrating rather than the celebrities ... hope we learn from this.
Currently sick of cooking - being house bound, meals have taken on a whole new level of importance. When this is over, I want Mr Man to take me out for dinner every night for at least a week.

I'll leave you with the reminder, stay home and don't think of it as stuck at home, but safe at home.
I think we are in for a long period of lockdown too, but every day that passes sees us one day nearer the end I guess. I'm pleased to see I'm not the only one who is overthinking meal times at the moment! We seem to be measuring our days in how much longer to the next one. It is making us more resourceful though and not a scrap is going to waste!
ReplyDeleteEverything is saying lockdown until end of April & that social distancing will continue well into the summer. I wonder if the meal planning & prep is a woman thing - socially or genetically messaging our DNA - feeding the family is your #1 job in any crisis?
DeleteWe're beginning week 2 - I'm with you on the food thing - I'm obsessed with menu planning and using every single thing currently in the fridge - I'm also scouring other blogs for pasts recipes.
ReplyDeleteA slow walk down to the local pub for an early supper sounds just about perfect right now!
Take care.
Menu planning is fast becoming a new skill set for many, thankfully I do have experience (col). I have discovered a few treats in the freezer, 2 weeks before our lockdown I had bought a selection of frozen cheescakes for a gathering we were suppose to go to - those cheescake slices are now OUR Sunday dinner treat.
DeleteI think your idea of "safe at home" vs. "stuck at home" is a good one! The red-winged blackbirds are here and I always have a bunny (or two, or three...). I agree that going out to eat will take on a whole new appreciation. If local restaurants can just stay afloat during this time, I think they will see lots of business in the future. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIf the redwinged blackbirds are where you are & you are further north than me, good news I should expect to see them any day now. I'm all about keeping things as positive as possible, it goes with that saying, the only thing I can control in this situation is my attitude. Some days it requires a little work ...
DeleteWe now have the community scavenger hunts for the kids. The first one is rainbows so guess what I'm making today!
ReplyDeleteThoughts about meals etc is playing too big a part in my life too. I supposed with so few distractions, compared to normal life, we are focused on the basics again.
I made my rainbow & it really cheered me up. I like cooking, there's just the pressure to make it interesting & 3 meals a day is a bit much ... Mr Man needs to learn to cook!!
DeleteI'm with you on the eating out once this is over! I'm so OVER cooking already!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the hand washing Happy Birthday videos. I can't sing, so I'm usually the one just mouthing the words in the background.
It's not that I don't like cooking, it's just this 3 meals a day & trying to use what is on hand. For the birthday video, I'll be washing, Mr Man will be singing!
DeleteThat's a fun way to celebrate a birthday! Sympathising with you abut the tulips - the squirrels ate most of my bulbs last year :(. I'm another whose mind is on feeding the family and not wasting a thing. My Mum's old cookery book from the 1950s, when rationing was still happening, is a good read!
ReplyDeleteBecause of where we live & not having a lot of extra spends, we haven't eaten out a lot, 99% of our meals are at home, things I make, but several of my friends are struggling with the cooking aspects of lockdown - they normally eat out 5-6 times a week. You should share a few of those 1950 gems - comfort foods needed now. :)
DeleteThis starts week 3 for us (serious isolating), and another 4 have been mandated. I'm guessing we'll be isolating through May as well. Fortunately, for me, cooking is a pleasure, and I've been trying 3-4 new recipes each week, based on what we have on hand. I'm getting pretty good at substitutions, too. We decided that to mark the weekends, we would order take-out on Saturdays. It's also a way to support the restaurants. How they'll survive is beyond me. I read an article this morning in the NYT saying it would be unlikely. We ordered from one of our favorites this week, and will have a second meal of it tonight.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad to hear that your leader has reversed his decision to open for business by Easter. I have found a few new to me recipes, ones that are 3-5 ingredients. I am thinking it's during this time Mr Man learn to cook (col).
DeleteIt's a good time to start some new hobbies. I plan to learn to crochet!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you crochet Chris. I though about watching some videos of how to crochet, but I checked, I don't have a hook or any wool. I think I'll try some new stamping techniques - those I have, stamps & ink :)
DeleteI'm on week 4 of safe at home as well. Robbie's on week 3 of working from home. So far we are doing well & enjoying eating at home. We're taking turns cooking & I realized how much we'd been going out or bringing something home or ordering in.
ReplyDeleteLove the handwashing video idea!!!
I'm glad to hear that you are both still well at home. I would like to have a take away meal but I'm just not trusting anyone enough for that yet. Mr Man chopped veggies for me last night, so we are starting a new norm in our kitchen!
DeleteYou are right it is tough at times. I think I am due to put on an old movie and have a good cry. This is day 15 for me, and I am trying to remember our last hurrah at the scrapbooking convention right before this started. It seems so long ago. Luckily we and our kids are all well.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right about the meals taking on new importance, the first week I was hungry all the time. By week 2 I learned to just drink lots (tea & lemonade & cola, of course.) It is fun to see the creative ways folks are passing the time. Stay well.
I think you're right, a good cry right now might be what I need; trying to solider on like normal when not much is normal right now. Now which movie that I own will make me cry - ah yes Sense & Sensibility is a guaranteed weep. I'll watch while having a nice hot cup of tea.
DeleteI am so grateful for my patio as our mayor has declared a "safer at home" shut down of non-essential businesses and urged everyone not to go out more than necessary. That little patch of spring color is an encouragement. Your teacup and saucer are perfect for spring :) Tell your red-winged blackbird "hello" for me :) We get them out in rural areas but never here in the city.
ReplyDeleteThere is thankfully some sense & reason going on in your area - hats off to your mayor as it seems to get how serious this virus is. We spent the morning in the garden & I haven't even heard the ring winged blackbird. Their call is so distinctive.
