Currently Thinking About: more of a return to in person shopping other than grocery shopping. I've shared that this whole pandemic has not been kind to my anxiety levels. A lot of my shopping sources over the last 19-20 months had excellent curbside or delivery services, but many of them are now eliminating, reducing or charging for these services. I know it's time to start a return to a familiar routine. Vaccination rates & a reduction in new cases in my area are all good & the province has a plan for booster jab rollout. I would like to do a little clothes shopping & now that the library is open to those able to show proof of vaccination, I'd like to wander the shelves & just look at the books.

Currently Thinking About: some new ways to reinvent some holiday (Christmas) celebrations. I've come to the decision to do another gratitude project; the Twelve Days of Christmas Blessings. As we get closer to the time, I'll share more of this formulating project. For me the 12 days start on the 26th of December, Boxing Day & carry through to Twelve Night in January. It will be part of my December Daily album, although this year's celebrations start in November (Stir Up Sunday is November 21st & Advent begins November 28th) & Twelve Night in January, so is it right to still call it my December Daily album? ... oh another thing to think about !
Currently Thinking About: how is it that the library DVDs are so scratched & almost unplayable? You take the DVD out of the case, put into your player, then return it to the case. Even accounting for finger prints, Mr Man spent at least 10 minutes cleaning with special DVD sprays & cloths to fix the scratches of the 1st disc of Season 3 of Shetland; even then there were a few pixel disruptions. We are SO liking Shetland.
Currently Thinking About: these fungus in the photo below, are the most disgusting ones I've ever seen. I've never seen red fungus before & this type is a first in my garden. Have you ever seen such mushrooms before?

ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying Shetland too, it's a bit different to the normal crime drama, the location is beautiful.
It's hard to relax with regard to going out and about again isn't it? But we do need to get away from our four walls, and so long as we are careful and mindful of any risk there may be I think we will gradually get some kind of normal life back. Vaccinations have definitely been the turning point haven't they?
I watched a special on TV last night about the development race of the vaccines. I know all the nay sayers are on about the rush of mRNA vaccines, but they have been in development for years specifically in the cancer research. The doctor/researcher in Cambridge (England) is ready to bring to market his vaccine that protects against all the corona viruses of which there are many! Those red mushrooms are done & I've dug the soil up hoping not to get spores sprouting more of them.

ReplyDeleteWe will go into a store like Home Depot for things that we need for the house. I even forget what now, but they were almost necessities. I wouldn't consider making shopping an event in itself though. Of course, I wouldn't at the best of times. Although Sue might like to sometimes browse around in normal times, she sure doesn't now.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to decide if doing several of the smaller shops in one go or do one a day & break for 5 days ... I would like a run into Costco but trying to decide the best time of day for that & I think I would go myself & leave Mr Man in the car as I can shop quicker :)

I'm going with booster myself. Mr Man says he'd like to teleaport to Shetland for an afternoon. The coastline seems very similar to our province, Newfoundland.

I'm still not at ease about going out when it's busy but have decided that it is time to start making the effort so will be doing the top up food shopping in person from now on. I've also decided that I will, selectively, start having people visit my home again ... not big groups though, just couples or singletons. I'll see how it goes!
Turns out that fungus is Stinkhorn - good guess. I need to go to a specialty shop for my Christmas cake ingredients. Thankfully we are still required to be masked when in public, so that feels just a little safer.
DeleteWe've ventured out for a very little in-person shopping, just going in and getting the thing(s) on our list. My favorite stop was Hobby Lobby, of course. We wear our masks & sanitize when we get back in the car, so all has gone well, although it's uncomfortable here because most people are not wearing masks and the stores are somewhat crowded.

DeleteI like the title "Days of Christmas" thanks. The scrapping store I use is now offering booking days for in person shopping with a deposit of $25.00/person & you can only shop for 1 hour. I'd like to get any in person shopping done sooner than later because of the soon Christmas shopping push.
I always get loads of fungi in my garden, but I have never seen one like that! When I first glanced through the post I wondered why you had posted a pic of some snapped electric cable!!
ReplyDeleteShetland had completely passed me by, but with everyone talking about it I have begun recording the latest series. Haven't watched any of it yet, though. I'm currently stuck on Silent Witness. Watching all of them from the start. I'm up to Series 8 so far. Hope I can get up to date before they stop streaming! (It's good to have goals...)
When I initially saw the red flopped over fungus, my thought went to who was shooting in the field - it looked like a shotgun cartridge. I am usually late to the party of any noteable TV show, unfortunately because we rely on the library for our source, I'll have to wait until next year to catch the current season of Shetland. I have seen some of Silent Witness, maybe the first 5 seasons - a good show to get lost in, so now my goal is to request season 6 for sure. :)
DeleteI think it started in 1997, which doesn't feel all that long ago to me, so I was shocked by how dated the early series were. The cars, the phones, the TV sets... Production values/acting style also seemed stilted at times but I persisted because I wanted to fill in the background. I have only been watching on and off for the past three years or so. Thankfully it warmed up relatively quickly and feels as if it is from the same universe now! Weirdly, there have been a couple of episodes which I know I have seen before. Can only assume I saw them when home from abroad, either originally or on repeat. Anyway, I have a month it seems to get through the lot so I'll have square eyes by Christmas!

I really need to start my shopping, and I actually am looking forward to doing some in the stores this year. Although the convenience of online shopping was the one big plus during the pandemic.
ReplyDeleteSorry you don't like my nature photos. I agree the fungus are not appealing at all, fascinating in their bizarre colour & shape but not a favourite subject matter. The tree in real life I think is quite interesting :) I have been most thankful for so many business providing curbside & delivery options during the pandemic.
DeleteAh, I forgot to say that I rather liked the gnarled old tree shot. Now thanks to the above, I too see a grumpy face ... but I feel rather sorry for him - like the Elephant Man! Have you seen the film, or any documentaries about him? So sad.
DeleteI don't recall a movie about the Elephant Man, but I did read for school a play about the Elephant Man based on his real life. Quite the sad story but there was also a grace about him. Now I want to go & find out more ... thanks for the spark.

ReplyDeleteAs for shopping in person, I'm not quite ready for it, yet! I shopped in person once, earlier in the summer, after I had both doses of vaccines and there was a lower new Covid cases count. That was my one and only shopping expedition, until yesterday, when I went to the pharmacy to get my flu shot and picked up a bottle of doctor recommended supplement and a jar of cold cream while I was waiting for my daughter to get her flu shot. Maybe, once I've received the booster, I might venture out for a few necessary items. Or, maybe not! :D
Glad to hear that all went well getting your flu shots. I had a venture into a non essential store (crafting) & it was not a great experience; poor customer service. I think I'll pull back in my desire to go shopping for awhile as numbers are rising again & I am not eligible for a booster until 2022. Thankfully there's really nothing I need. :)

DeleteI returned to grocery shopping some time ago, but try my best to go during hours when it is least crowded. More people are unmasked, but I find the percentage of those masked at the grocery store is greater than when shopping elsewhere. I ventured to the mall this weekend and got what I wanted at an excellent price, but did not do any wandering as it was crowded and many were NOT masked. I feel relatively comfortable with my booster and the fact that I am masked! The rate here is up again. They are crediting it to increased number of indoor parties, the high number of college students in our area, and the opening of schools. (All data from contact tracing.) This week I read an excellent article on Covid which said we should expect to live with it indefinitely.
ReplyDeleteI've done a few runs to the grocery store & done in person shopping. I tried one crafting store last week, & like you are picked a time when other shoppers were likely to be about. I need to do an in person shop at a baking specialty store this week to get things for my Christmas cake - it's Stir Up Sunday on the 21st & I need to get baking then! I've also read/heard that it is most likely COVID is going to be with us for some time. I think booster shots will for COVID, be like annual flu jabs! Ontario has halted on the re-opening plans & gone back to lower limits for indoor activities. Thankfully this was a quick response to rising numbers.
