Me On A Monday - February 6th

"Hello fellow earth traveler".  This is how I was greeting one morning by a little person, who often shocks me with their wisdom about life.

SOURCE: Internet

Currently Reading:  just finished a novel called "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt.  I really liked this story a lot.  I would recommend.  A little whimsy using facts about amazingly bright creatures that weave into a story of love, loss & loneliness in many shapes. I liked the characters & cared about them.

Also reading for our church's Lenten study, The Rebel Christ written  by Rev. Michael Coren.  I was not one that "voted" for this book to be our study, but there you have it.  To help me get more out of this small book, I've also been reading the author's weekly column & watching interviews with him.

Also reading Valentine Low's book Courtiers. Oh my! Interesting perspective. Certainly some shocking tales of past Courtiers.

Currently Displaying: two late arrival Christmas gifts.  Mr Man had ordered these two ornaments for me back in October. What he did not initially realize was, that these were shipping from China.  Two ornaments celebrating Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The snowflake ornament is quite nice, the flake is made of a light metal, the pendulum is a photo encased in plastic, nothing like the photo on the website.  So 1 out of 2 is as good as it gets ...

Currently Watching: more series on Brit Box; The Cleaner, rather weird, very dry humour; we tried The Responder, did not like at all, gave up part way through episode one.  We watched The Long Call, because it is written by the fabulous Anne Cleeves, who wrote the books Shetland & Vera.  Also watched River & I would say that is a favourite. And we were able to start with season 12 of Vera.

Currently Waiting: for this week's appointment to find out when the first of two eye surgeries for Mr Man are.  The first surgery will either be next week or end of March.  For both surgeries, once the surgery is done, Mr Man has to be seen every other day for two weeks & then once a week for 6 weeks. Surgeries will be 6-8 weeks apart.  We are both hoping for the first surgery to be end of March as the weather may be more reliable than mid-February's weather usual snow events.

Currently Looking Forward: to a meet up with a friend that isn't outdoors.  The mall in the city between us opens early although the stores not until 10am. My friend's choice of coffee place now has an outlet in the mall & the dining area is large & open, & at that time not a lot of people presence,  so I feel fairly comfortable meeting there, indoors, mask on.  I haven't seen this friend since October, although we chat online several times a week.

And now with a plan for the week, I'm off to take in a little more wisdom from the short Zen master.  Hope everyone has a good week.

  1. I hope you get the date for the surgeries soon so you can plan around them. Will the after care be close to home or will you have a journey every other day?
Enjoy your coffee with your friend, it sounds like a catch up in person is well overdue!

    1. Both the surgery & follow up appointments are about an hour's drive away. So those follow up appointments will use up about 3 hours a day; drive 2 hours, actual appt. 1 hour or so. But the surgeries must be done to save his vision.

  2. What a brilliant way to greet people!
I second what Deb has said about the dates for Mr. Man's surgeries.

    1. I think it's good to be reminded that we are all travelers together on this voyage of life. Although my little Zen master I am sure thinks I'm an alien of sorts (col).

  3. Keeping both of you in my prayers---for successful surgeries and good scheduling! I just started Remarkably Bright Creatures, and got right into it! Have a great week--and fun with your friend!

    1. Thank you for your prayers-much appreciated. Living in rural Ontario we don't have some of the same alternative ride options to use as back up when the weather is too much for me.

  4. We are watching the same stuff, except I stopped Cleaner very soon. Also The Responder. The others I liked: Vera, Long Call, and River.

    1. I was wanting to like The Responder as I like Martin Freeman for the most part. Not sure what's next for our viewing pleasure, I've been recommended Black Work.

  5. I do like the snowflake pendant. Good you will get to see your friend again and hope you stay safe in the mall. Fingers crossed for a good outcome for Mr. Man's surgery.

    1. Thanks Chris, I like the snowflake pendant & it isn't too heavy so should hang nicely on the tree. We have high hopes for the surgeries to be the fix needed.

  6. Hope the surgeries can be scheduled for a time with better weather and driving conditions. Will you be able to have a say in deciding when the surgeries can take place? Or, will they schedule and tell you when it will be?

    1. The surgeries will be scheduled mostly on the doctor's & hospital's schedule & if the medications can allow for a delay until late March. All types of surgeries are when there's a spot available, not when you'd like it. The pandemic created huge & long backlogs for all manner of surgeries. And now with the nurses & doctors shortages, it creates even longer wait times.

  7. I liked The Cleaner, too, and am happy this season of Vera is coming out. I'll watch them as they become available. Scheduling dr appointments, tests, and surgeries for times when the weather isn't as likely to be bad makes good sense. I hope all goes well.

    1. I like that each story of The Cleaner has a different star in the main clean up story. With the state of our medical services I guess getting any date is one we have to be grateful for.

  8. I hope the surgery dates work out for you as the last thing you need is to be driving in poor weather conditions every day. I do hope the surgeries, when they do happen, lead to a positive outcome for Mr Man. I know how worrying eye issues can be xx

    1. Thanks Eileen. While there's no guarantee to any surgery, this specialist tells us, the eye stints are the answer.

  9. I'm glad to read that you and Mr. Man have some more definite idea of the surgery and the aftercare - and hoping that all goes well and the weather is kind for the driving. Hmmm, yes, that's the problem with postal items, isn't it - what arrives is not necessarily what we thought we were getting. Glad it was at least a one out of two. Love the comment by your little Earth Traveller :).

    1. We received a definite date & which eye is set for surgery on March 24th. The 2nd surgery for the other eye is then set for 6 weeks afterwards. Both ornaments are OK, just the snowflake is exactly as it was described & pictured. Buyer beware (col).

  10. What does it say about me that I was immediately moved to look up Courtiers on Amazon and not the Bible Study. But then I saw it was about the Windsor drama, so it's a hard pass.

    1. The Rebel Christ, for me is an awful pick & after reading I have decided to not attend my own church's Lenten study, I will join the study at a friend's church. I think like you many have had enough of the Sussex's fight.

  11. Belatedly, good luck for the timing and outcome of the surgery. I don't need telling how important they are! I like both the decorations. Shame that one of them isn't so nice in real life, but maybe the effect when they are on the tree will be fine?

    1. Thanks Lady Ella, we got confirmation yesterday that the first surgery will be on the good eye, which after 4-6 weeks of healing, Mr Man will be able to drive again!!
