Linking in with Sian's Me On Monday at http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.ca/
The weekend was a blend of rain and sun, work and play. We had two of our Ash trees inoculated for
the Emerald Ash Borer, an escaped invading enemy. A lot of money and the worry it won’t work. On Saturday attending our village’s Pioneer
Day parade, sad so few participants in either the parading or the
viewing, but it did afford me the chance to capture #17 for SPSH. Looking forward (?) to a return to a schedule
of work, last week was vacation time. Menu
planning for the week all done – the crockpot should get a lot of use this
week. Do I have everything on my To Do
list that needs to be done? New to me
dresses all washed, ironed & ready to wear. The week ahead forecasts sun and humidity so I
will have to slow down and enjoy the slower pace that the humidity will demand.
Don’t the trees create such a beautiful amount of shade? It’s all good.
( the photo is how the inoculation is done - the pressurized injectors are left on for approximately 6 hours, and starting in the early morning is best; depending on the circumference of the trunk is how it is determined the number of injectors placed)

hope your tree treatment works
ReplyDeleteSo many of the cities are now inoculating the cityscape trees, but many townships are just clear cutting the Ash trees - so sad and all because they unloaded some untreated wood pallets from overseas.
DeleteFingers crossed that it works.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a big crock pot fan. Hope you have something nice in there this week!
In the summer time heat and humidity I have found my crock pot to be a best friend. I have been known to even set the crock pot out on the patio to keep the heat out of the kitchen (no air conditioning) - the squirrels are fascinated by the smell of food.
DeleteBest wishes for the trees! I've never heard of trees being inoculated before. You sound very organised for your return to work schedule. I keep thinking that Mike and I should do better with meal planning, but somehow never eventuates. As for ironing...ha!
ReplyDeleteWhen I meal plan it is always in pencil ;) As for the Ash trees, there is a lot of research going on as Ontario has a huge Ash tree population, they say this is just like the Dutch Elm disease from years ago, killing off the native trees with an introduced insect where there is no natural predator to keep in check. The other big problem is the introduced/escaped Pine Beetle
DeleteHow fascinating! I have never seen or heard of tree inoculation before; but I can understand with such big mature trees why you would be anxious for them. Hoping your week has gone well - you sound well ahead on the organisational front!
ReplyDeleteThankfully most of the humidity forecasted has not materialize (thankfully), but leaves me no excuse for not doing ... weeding in the garden or vacuuming in the house? I'll vacuum later, it is forecasting rain for next week.....
ReplyDeleteHope the inoculations work....I'm another one who hasn't heard of this before xx
ReplyDeleteHello Alison. Yes I am most hopeful about the treatment working. These two ash trees give tremendous shade and also encourage lots of bird and beastie visits as they provide great branching out.
