A Pair Of Drinkers

Joining in with Helena's Pairs at http://helenascreativemaven.blogspot.ca/

My Pairs this week are a couple of very noisy visitors to my garden. They are taking a break from the peanut and sunflower breakfast I just served them.   The mob of Blue Jays in the morning are a cheeky lot.  They have taken to knocking on the bathroom window in the morning and squawking for peanuts.  The chipmunks are busy stocking up for the winter - while they are not true hibernators they do need a large food source to see them through the winter.  They are also quite bold, coming to the back door and chirping loudly for peanuts and/or sunflowers - it is the most annoying sound.  The activity on the patio entertains my fur girls for hours (they are strictly indoor cats).  We call it Bird Theatre.

  1. what lovely visitors - both look so exotic through UK eyes - their noisy asking for more food sounds fun but I'm sure it can get annoying after a while

    1. Thanks Helena - yes I think these two could be seen as exotic, thanks for reminding me to look at them with a different filter :)

  2. We try to discourage the chipmunks which have caused a lot of damage to the lawn (holes) in past years. This year we seem to have just one, but I've never seen him come to the bird bath. Great captures!

    1. Thank you Karen. So far we have been fairly lucky in that the chipmunks make their burrows either somewhere non problematic or just outside the fence in the farmer's field.

  3. what a great pair..I have never seen a chipmunk at a birdbath! We regularly supply "our" chipmunks with peanuts and sunflowers too and they often have to remind us.

    1. Thanks Marsha. Our chipmunks seem to prefer the birdbath for a drink - we put a ceramic sauce down with water but I have never seen them use, so I dumped and now all share the bird bath. I try to refresh the bath ever other day, maybe that's why they like.

    1. In spite of the Blue Jays being noisy, I like to have them around, the blue is so pretty and their colours intensive in the winter.

    2. that should say their colours intensify in the winter.

  5. Lovely to see some more of your visitors. As I said before, our jay is a bit different, and our chipmunks ... sniff ... we have no chipmunks!

    1. Thanks Maggie. I have been trying to capture photos of our Swallows so I can show you the difference between yours and ours. So far no luck other than a blur in the middle of the photo.

  8. Our indoor cat loves watching outdoor activity too! Our new house will have the perfect window spot for him. :o) Thanks so much for your lovely comments on my blog, Mary Lou. You had mentioned seeing my black & white mandala on Instagram. I'd love to follow you back but don't know your user name. Could you shoot me an email and let me know? Thanks so much! xo
