Memos, Mail & Me: It's Monday Feb 20th

Giving a Monday wave to all & linking in with our hostess Sian at:   From High In The Sky

On the new front;

Today is Family Day in Ontario, Alberta & Saskatchewan, which is a holiday on the third Monday of February. In British Columbia, Family Day falls on the second Monday of February.  You would think we could get it on the same day.  This day is celebrating the importance of family & community, so I don't understand why it is not being celebrated across Canada & on the same day.  And yes Happy President's Day to my American family & friends.

Also on the sort of new front; sunshine & lots of it over this holiday weekend with accompanying milder temperatures.  Smokey Puss certainly knew how to make the most of the sunshine.  She had a wonderful bath & snooze in the sunshine.

Sooty Paws was busy running from window to window watching all the squirrel & bird activity.  Love is definitely in the air for the squirrels. I will say no more.

On Sunday we had a trip out in search of the last few items I needed for the Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt - success.  We traveled on a few back roads that we had not previously ventured on, so another new!  This is one of the reasons I like the PSHs & miss Snap,  as it gets us motivated to go out.  As introverts we have far too easy a time in finding reasons to stay inside.

On Friday,  Mr Man experienced for the first time having the person in front of him in the drive thru line pay for his coffee - he was so excited for this. Bonus is that it's Tim Horton's Roll Up The Rim time - he won a free coffee! Score. Bonus. Pay It Forward.
It is beginning to look a lot like tax time - the mail box has had several pieces of mail all to do with T this  & T that - Canadian tax forms have a T in front of the number to signify that it is for the tax form.  I also think the  form number corresponds to the line on the master tax form submitted to the government.  I will say no more about taxes.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead.

  1. That does seem pretty daft about the holiday Mondays not being the same. It must be a particular pain if you live near the border. It sounds a bit like here when counties have different school holidays so parents who are teaching in one county are juggling children who are at school in another county or even worse around here you might work in one and children in two other counties if you follow my flow.
I too miss Snap and Miriam's six word story that is why I have started doing the Photo a Week Challenge. Could we lobby Helena when she returns?

    1. Family Day is a relatively new holiday so I am hopeful that one day it will dawn on the premiers of the provinces that hey wouldn't it be a great idea if we all celebrated on the same day & called it the same thing.

  2. It would make much more sense to have a countrywide Family Day. Particularly if your family are spread over counties. I definitely take more photos, when there are challenges to fulfil. Although it's rare that a day goes by without me taking at least one for Instagram.

    1. I think I will have to make up my own meme as I just don't see me in Instagram but never say never.

  3. Aw - would you look at that face enjoying the sun-puddle."Happy Family Day, Mary-Lou" I agree. Why would it not be on the same day? Just one more thing that doesn't make much sense.

    1. It is funny to observe how Smokey Puss loves her sun puddles but Sooty Paws doesn't even seem to notice. So different.

    1. Thanks Jenn. Hope your Family Day was exactly what you had hoped for. We eventually got out to some events. That weekend sunshine was SO needed & appreciated.

  5. Makes no sense! Mind you, lots of things about families don't make sense: may somebody somewhere is trying to remind us of the crazy chaos that can make up family life.

Hope you have a good week.

  6. Striking pics of your four-legged friends. I thought they were B&W at first but now I see not - clever!
LOVE that quote - I don't wish I had an eraser but I do wish I were better at drawing!

    1. Taking photos of these two fur kids is really hard as their black fur absorbs the light. I am sure the pictures you are making in life are all perfect - remember art is in the eye of the beholder. Rather than an eraser I would really like a pause button.

  7. It's certainly strange to have it on different days, but as long as it's celebrated. Wishing you a happy family day xxx

    1. It was encouraging to see so many families out in all the parks today - our little village had lots of free events planned for everyone in every type of family unit.

  8. That's the first I've heard of Family Day. We were looking for the mail this afternoon when we realized there would be no mail on President's Day. When we were teaching, we never missed the holidays, but when you're retired some holidays can go by unnoticed. Lovely photos of your kitty! I miss SNAP too, but I'm participating in CY365 again so the camera is out every day.

    1. I have the camera(s) ready to go every day but I must admit some days it just doesn't seem anything to snap on. CY365, I will keep an eye out for that meme.

    1. It is a relatively new holiday & not everyone gets it off as a paid day. In Canada we decided that the holiday of New Year's to Good Friday was often too long in the winter without a break, hence Family Day was created.

  12. It's so nice to see some sunshine in your post this week!

It's tax time here, too - I got all our numbers calculated yesterday, but need to wait for a couple of things before filing it all in a week or two!
