Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday May 15th

Hello, it's Monday & we meet again.  Linking in with our hostess, Sian at:  From High In The Sky

Memo sent out by the owners of the farm where I ride, they have decided to sell the farm.  Their daughter & son with their respective spouses, moved out to BC a couple years ago & since the birth of their first grandchildren, they thought since the market is as hot as it is, it's as good a time to move out west.  I am so sadden by this news because it means that all the horses & owners will be dispersed to different barns, unless the new owners decide to keep the farm as a boarding facility. Most of the boarders will not wait around for that to be decided, so the great exit will begin.   I will probably loose touch with many of them.  I am so grateful that I  have been provided with the opportunity to ride their horses, share in their wisdom of both horse & life.  Some have become just a little more than horse buddies.  I don't like change.

Mail, again not a lot of interesting reading being sent in, but I have done some sending out of happy mail; one of our physio therapists & his wife had a baby girl on the weekend, so a card was passed around & mailed out, plus he'll be off for a few days.  There are quite a few May birthdays that need marking with a card, fingers crossed they all arrive in time.

The me part of this post is feeling quite happy that we got the patio power washed & set up with the chairs, table & umbrella.  My big patio pots are still empty but with next weekend being a long weekend, Monday is the holiday to celebrate Victoria Day, I am hoping that I'll be able to get everything planted up - provided the weather co-operates!  I have my garden centre list all ready.  Soon I will be having my morning tea on the patio again - ah bliss.

  1. Power washing the decks is on my to-do list. Maybe you can find another riding stable close by? -Jenn

    1. Jenn for me the best part of this farm/stable has been that it's a privately owned one & all the horses were privately owned so not a lot of traffic of Saturday morning lessons. No matter I started out at a lesson barn, I can move on to one again - it is the horse contact I need. :-)

  2. We need to power wash the deck and the house. I mentioned it to hubby a month ago... guess I need to mention it again... And we need a visit to the garden center as well. Lots of areas need new plants!

    1. Power washing a house would be a lot of work! Good luck with that (col). I enjoy the wandering about the garden centres in the spring, so many new varieties to choose from.

  3. Must be the season to power wash, our patio has half done last week and we're just waiting for this patch of showery weather to end so that my husband can finish it off. You can definitely see the point at which he finished last week!

    1. Mr Man is so upset that not 24 hours later the wind blew all the field "stuff" on to the patio, but at least now it's only a sweep needed not a full on wash. :-)

  4. Oh what a shame about the stables. I do hope you find somewhere else that meets your horsey needs.

    1. So many horse farms are being sold or just left, it is SO expensive to keep horses so my biggest need at this particular farm has been the luxury of riding/horse contact at no cost to me. I will have to decide if I want to start that "taking riding lessons" type of riding again.

    1. Thank you Ruth. I enjoy tulips in the garden so every year I plant a few more. Each spring I am surprised by the odd tulip here & there that I know I didn't plant - squirrels!

  6. I'm a big fan of tulips too: they always seem so cheerful. I'm sorry to hear about the horses...maybe it's time to start thinking about making a few layouts to remember? Or maybe you are way ahead of me with those?

Wishing all the best for the week ahead. I hope you get out and enjoy that patio.

    1. Great idea about making some pages about the farm. I once did a memory book for one of the long time boarders that moved away, umm he went west also - I need to go find that CD of photos & start there ...

    1. Today (Wed) is a real change in the weather, so already I have had a sit, just finishing up here to go run two of the sitting on the patio with tea! Yeah to a long weekend with good weather.

  9. Sorry to hear about the farm being sold. I don't like change either. :( Here's to sitting on the patio. Ours has been washed off but the furnace did kick on this morning so there is still a chill in the air.

    1. Mornings still have a chill but already the sun is warming up the day. The more I think about the farm being sold, the more I cry - so until it is I'm going to enjoy every moment there with more of a gusto. Isn't that a good thought for life, gusto with every moment because we don't know when it will change ... I need more tea!

  10. So sad about the farm. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the new owners will want to continue boarding the horses. We get our patio set up in stages. The table, chairs and umbrella are set up, but flowers won't get planted until after Memorial Day.

    1. Rumour is abounding about the farm that developers may purchase for the land & rip the barn, arena & house down! I have all the plants ready to go into pots later next week.

  11. Sorry to hear about the farm.
It's an exciting time of the year isn't it?
In Chicago, we went from being cold on Monday to sweating bullets for the past 2 days!

    1. Weather in our area can go from sweaters to sweating in just a few hours. This time of year is glorious & I will be thankful for cooler temperatures because it makes the spring flowers last just a bit longer.
