Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday November 13th

Good Morning! It's a chilly one.

On the memo front, I received a rejection letter from our workers compensation board denying my claim for my injury at work.  If my claim had been accepted it would have meant that any physio or massage treatments I needed from my fall, would have been completely covered.  My claim was rejected because my boss did not pay premiums for this coverage (I was not aware).  And yes I agree, considering I work for a physio/massage clinic, you would think my boss would offer to waive the costs for at least a few treatments!  I'll say no more ...

On the mail delivery, we received one of the many glossy & very colourful flyers for Christmas decorating & gift guide.  Canadian Tire is a national brand & it's roots, I believe started out in automotive parts & needs but over the years has expanded to be an everything store other than grocery or pharmacy.  Canadian Tire is what many call a national treasure, they even have their own dollars. Every Canadian has a stash of Canadian Tire dollars at home in the junk drawer.

Out in the garden, I finally got the rose huts on, just hours before the first snow fall.  We had record low temperatures for this time of year & I think many people, including us, got caught out with the sudden deep freeze & with so many gardening things still to be done, like drain the water barrels.

In the shopping cart this week was a couple of purchases needed for the house; a dehumidifier for the main floor of our house.  We run one in our basement but being that our house is 4 levels; affectionately known as a back split; we decided we needed one on the main floor to help with the moisture build up on all the new double glazed vinyl windows!  I'll say no more ...
Another purchase was a set of icicle Christmas lights.  When Mr Man & I were shopping a few weeks ago I stopped & admired these lights.  I think the light running up & down the plastic icicle makes them look so like real melting icicles.   Mr Man bought me a string of 20.  I am not sure where we will hang them.  The string is 10 feet with 20 lights so not enough for the whole front of the house.  AND no, we aren't purchasing any more strings - got that Mr Man!?

Now that Remembrance Day is over, in only one day, stores & shops are in full on swing for Christmas.  McDonalds started issuing their holiday cups, which are 3 different designs & exclusive for Canada.  McDonalds in the US of A has a different pattern(s).  I am not a Starbucks fan so I have never got caught up in their red cup program.  Canada's other iconic shop; Tim Horton's will have 3 holiday designs released this week, along with the traditional chocolate donut covered with candy cane sprinkles.  Now this is a tradition I can get behind & if I do too often, I will have quite the behind!

In this week's church service, the visiting minister told us that we are either goats or sheep.  I have absolutely no idea what those metaphorical references were about, so while I ponder which I am, I hope everyone has a wonderful & warm week ahead.

  1. Do a Google search on sheeps and goats - it's to do with the Last Judgement.

    1. I did have a good search around Google & found an excellent explanation. My Mum raised goats for milk & meat when I was a kid (no pun intended) so I have a really different view of goats than the bible explanation.

  2. Goats put their head down and aggressively get on with it, sheep are followers?? We still had a few outdoor things to deal with as well. That first snow fall is a greater motivator. -Jenn

    1. Goats are difficult, we had lots when I was a kid, along with 1000's of rabbits. It slants your perspective some what when you spend hours cleaning up from them! Mr Man got the Christmas outside lights up (not turned on until Dec 1)

  3. I read a novel called 'The Trouble with Goats and Sheep' by Joanna Cannon. It was a really good story! Interesting about Canadian Tire! Love that they had their own dollars. Sorry that you are not covered for your treatment after your fall. On another note, I am going to join in with you this week

    1. I'll have to see if I can get that book from our library. Canadian Tire money is quite colourful just like our Canadian money but like all things, it's going digital too. I look forward to your threesome on Thursday!

  4. How annoying that your employer doesn't have the insurance or the goodwill to offer a few free treatments for employees.
I never buy coffee from Starbucks or places like that because I simply can't drink that much coffee in one go! However I do like the sound of seasonal doughnuts ... I could definitely manage that!

    1. I find Starbucks really expensive even for tea. Oh the seasonal donuts are just too good & one is never enough.

  5. The Starbucks red cups and British coffee chain Costa's Christmas cups have been around for a while (think around Halloween)... bah humbug!
Sorry to hear that your firm's insurance doesn't cover your injury ... it does seem a little ironic!
We don't receive many Christmas flyers, but I've noticed that more and more Christmas windows are appearing.
    Snow in early November? Yikes!

    1. Someone from the December Daily group posted some Costa cups - very nice. Snow on top of the leaves is really messy & slippery.

  6. The Christmas catalogs are filling our mailbox right now. I look through a few of them, and end up purchasing one or two things, but most go into the recycling box. I did try to unsubscribe a few years ago, but there must have been term limits since they are back again in a flurry! How annoying that your injury isn't covered---and because your boss hasn't paid the necessary premium. Yuck! Matt came last week and cleaned out my perennial bed for me, and I cut the beautiful hydrangeas to dry just before the frost turned everything black! We still have MANY leaves on the trees, so raking can wait awhile longer.

    1. I too throw into recycle 95% of the flyers we get, such a waste of paper. Drying hydrangeas can be so pretty in arrangements. Right now our leaves are under snow & it's really messy & hard to rake leaves, so I'll leave for Mr Man to tackle on the weekend ...

  7. Oh my, it looks awfully cold there! The stores are full of Christmas stuff here, but I'm ignoring it all until after our Thanksgiving. :)

    1. It is chilly & quite raw with the dampness. We find most of the stores wait until after Remembrance Day out of respect to put our Christmas, mind you some shops start with Christmas back in September!

  8. I feel cold now! Very frustrating about your injury. Not a very accommodating employer.
A store with its own dollars? Never heard of that. Bristol has its own pounds to try and get people to shop locally. I'm not sure how successful it is. I have never even seen one!

    1. I must dig out the Canadian Tire dollars to share with everyone. So many of the little communities are trying all kinds of programs to encourage people to shop in their home town. Rewards dollars for future purchases seems to be the biggest one going.

  9. Brrrr - snow! It has been bitterly cold here the last few days - a sudden and drastic wardrobe change required! Reckon we may be in for snow this winter too.
The more I hear about your boss, the less simpatico he seems! Just on a personal level, I'd have thought some small concession to your treatment good practice - an investment/motivator on his part. Hope your recovery continues well regardless.
Have been seeing (and ignoring) Christmas displays in shops since mid-October, but really annoyed to be faced with a Christmas tree and piped carols in Morrison's on 6 November!! I'll be boycotting them for a few weeks! (Bet they'll miss me - not!) Hehehe.

    1. It is with our pounds/dollars that we let them know we aren't happy - good for you. I have boycotted several businesses & shops in the past, there are two that I have for years. My stiffness is improving, our physio therapist is pretty good & the massage therapist did some stretches on my neck specifically designed for whip lash - amazing the relief. Under our provincial health care program physio & massage are not covered.

  10. I had a laugh as, yes I have a bundle of Canadian Tire money in my drawer, teehee.
Hope your recovery goes smoothly and quickly.

    1. Thanks Tracy. Oh yes we have quite a stash of CT dollars - we usually donate to the local cat rescue so they can use to buy cleaning products.
