Currently Enjoying: the prize I won in an online giveaway. This painting was done by Jade, Abstract Pet a very talented artist. I read Jade's sister's blog, Coffee on The Porch, & Jenn posted info about her sister's new enterprise. Jade does sketches, paintings & other crafts for animals so you know that got me immediately interested. After announcing I'd won the draw, Jade asked me to send a photo of my pet. I sent Jade a photo of one of my cats; a very special girl that has passed over the rainbow bridge & from that photo, Jade did the sketch/painting. It's perfect, it captures my fur girl perfectly & what makes it so "alive" is the work Jade has done on the eyes - the windows to the soul.
This is the photo that the painting was done from |
Currently Reading: Louise Penny's latest, "All The Devils Are Here". I say currently reading, I read once already & I am reading again, back to back, before I have to return to the library.
Currently Organizing: an educational zoom meeting for members of my church with one of our county nurses on the subject of COVID-19 social bubbles. I was rather discouraged & amazed how most of these folks did not understand or follow the government's recommended social bubbles guidelines. Seeing how at risk many of our senior members were putting themselves, I decided to do something & I have a friend connection to the county nurse's office. It was quite enlightening & I hope that this talk has made a difference to keep our members safe.
Currently Watching: recommendations from our librarian; DCI Banks,(liking) Law & Order UK (maybe go further). We also tried Above Suspicion & Silent Witness.
As for TV, we did catch the new one from director Ridley Scott, a sci fi, Raised by Wolves - so far we have only seen the first 5 episodes. There are 5 to come.

I didn't know you had won the draw! Thank you for mentioning my sister in your blog. I know she's working very hard to make her business a success, and yes, she does capture them well, doesn't she? On a different note, I wasn't aware that Penny had a new book out - oh my gosh, I'd better reserve it on our library website! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteJenn, oh I thought she would have told you I'd won, sorry I did not mention to you. That's why when you asked about where I live, I said your sister would know ... The new Louise Penny takes place in Paris France, I put my name on that request list back in July & I was still #10.
DeleteOh what a talented artist - how lucky you were to win that prize!
ReplyDeleteSo the UK is not the only place to have hard to understand 'bubbles'! We've just gone back a step and can now only have 6 people in a group of any age indoors or outdoors. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales all have variations on the rules!
I think some of the not understanding social bubbles, is not wanting to know so they don't have to adhere to them. This is a case of yes what you do does affect me - I am surprised by how many people are, well I want to ... & this is in any age range.
DeleteThat is a fabulous drawing of your kitty! How wonderful to have won that drawing. We have the new Louise Penny on Audible. Sarah finished it right away, and liked it a lot.
ReplyDeleteJade did an amazing job on this piece of art - truly very fortunate to have won this.
DeleteOh wow that portrait is amazing and so like the original photo. Lucky you winning such a prize.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look for Raised by Wolves as I like a good Sci Fi.
Raised by Wolves (sci fi) is a little weird. We also started watching Brave New World.
DeleteI've just found out it's not airing here in the UK so I might have to wait a while for that one.
DeleteShe has really captured the likeness. How lovely to win such a lovely prize.
ReplyDeleteI feel very fortunate to have won this gift. I have it displayed in our living room in a place of prominence.
DeleteI appreciate a book that's worth re-reading :)
ReplyDeleteChurches are interesting in how much individuals either don't know the recommendations or just don't seem to "get it". It's good that there are ongoing efforts to bring people on-board.
I must admit that some of wanting to bring the social info to everyone's attention is for selfish reasons - the longer people act as though it's all about them, the longer I have to be in social distancing, quarantine. I think mask wearing will continue - Australia is recording one of the lowest flu seasons - masks work.
DeleteThat was so nice of you to organize the educational talk about social bubbles! You saw a problem and did something to help!
ReplyDeleteI saw it as part of my pastoral care duties. We need to all look out for each other.
DeleteWell I don't have anything new to add but I will say it anyway - what a special prize you have won and I am not surprised you are so pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteYes, let's hope that the Zoom talk hit the spot so your churchgoers keep themselves and everyone else as safe as possible.
Thanks Lady Ella - I am quite pleased to have won such a prize. Ontario COVID infections are rising very quickly with the return to school - it is quite worriesome.
DeleteI just requested "All the Devils..." from the library. They have 295 copies and I am #905 on the list! It will be some time until my number comes up!
ReplyDeleteI never knew Louise Penny was SO popular. Hopefully quick readers before you :)
DeleteMany congratulations on your prize! The artist has done a great job of capturing the spirit of your lovely cat :). And you deserve something nice for all the effort and care you put into organizing that informative meeting. I despair here - so little social distancing and so few people bothering with masks, and no way of enforcing it.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by the number of people that make wearing a mask a political issue. We are taking our eye off the ball of what really matters ... I wonder if it's a plot change in the book of Earth.
