Me On A Monday - January 16th

Greetings & Salutations this cold & bright January morning.  I feel like I am coming out of my blanket wrapped days.  It is amazing what two days of bright blue skies & sunshine can do.

Currently Reading: well to be accurate, it's more of what I am not reading.  The library called & I picked up Spare but I just cannot bring myself to read.  I'll say no more about that for now.  What I am reading is the big book Fayne & it is for me a tough going, this might be one of those books that I give up on.  I finished Hester & while I wouldn't say I loved this book, I did find it interesting on the take of The Scarlet Letter's character. What Hestor has tweaked in me, is an interest to read a little further on the witch hunts of Scotland.

Currently Doing: a lot of trying to source prescription medications for Mr Man's eye(s).  While worldwide every country seems to be battling along with their health care systems. Ours is also being made more difficult with a back orders or out of stock of prescription medications. For us, this includes several of Mr Man's much needed prescription eye drops.  Our local pharmacy is an independent drugstore (chemist) so cannot call in from a "sister" store.  Last week we spent a good chunk of one day calling several other drugstores to source a prescription eye drop - we found at a pharmacy 1 1/2 hours away. Thankfully it was a pleasant enough drive.  We may decide to switch Mr Man's prescription to a large chain drugstore to save us the sourcing calls as they would do that themselves & they would have it sent to a local pharmacy of the chain.  Membership does have some advantages.

Currently Mulling: over the last few weeks I kept hearing a phrase  that could be a source of OLW for me.  I've written this down & starting doodling how this could govern my actions & thoughts over the next quarter at least ... "more or less"  I think I felt a little tingle of excitement just writing about it now!  How are you & your OLW getting along?

Currently Watching: Brit Box - oh what have we done (lol).  We are caught up with Vera, Shetland & Line of DutyLine of Duty series 6 was a binge watch. Our intention was to just watch one episode a night but we were on the edge of our seats & just could not look away.  We have just started series 1 of Murder in Provence (books I've read). Seeing Roger Allam of Endeavour fame in another role (similar but different) was interesting.

Not on Brit Box, but we also started with the latest series of All Creatures Great & Small & Vienna Blood.

I hope everyone has an extraordinary week.

  1. I'm going to start by suggesting another BBC series which is really good - Happy Valley. The new season is just being shown here now, but you do need to have seen the two previous seasons first.
How annoying to have to drive 90 mins to get the eye drops. There are obviously benefits to be attached to a larger pharmacy which is one of a group but it's a shame you can't support a smaller independent shop.
I feel like I don't need to read Spare as so many excerpts have been shown in the press. I had no inclination to read it anyway; I think he has been advised badly and I can't honestly see any way back from the hurt he is causing. That's just my opinion.

    1. Oh a season 3 of Happy Valley! We have seen 1&2 so we can catch up. We just started The Victim. I am also very disappointed in Harry & although King Charles is a forgiving man, I'm not so sure about the Prince & Princess of Wales. I don't think I could forgive such betrayal (& lies). I was SO disappointed to hear of the changes in the coronation King Charles is making to having the dukes of the realm swear allegiance just so Harry can sit with Meghan, should they attend the coronation (I hope they don't).

  2. More Veras coming soon. They won’t tell us exactly when though. Happy Valley, mentioned by deb14, won’t air until sometime in May or later. She is right that you need to watch the earlier seasons first. However, I am not sure if they are currently available.

  4. I must admit to having no interest in Spare. What I saw on television (just one episode of many so I understand) was plenty for me. I have very mixed feelings about it all. Bright sunny skies here for the first day in a LONG time. There were breaks of sun yesterday, but mostly gray and cold. I intend to fully enjoy the sunshine today as the forecast is very bleak. Have a great week!

    1. Three days of sunshine was so enjoyable, now we are back to overcast. I am not impressed with The Ginger & Whinger at all.

  5. I also vote for Happy Valley!
I had no intention of reading Spare, but as Deb wrote, it has been hard to avoid. I also hope that they don't come to the coronation. You could never trust that anything you might say to them wouldn't end up in Volume 2 or in a Netflix docuseries!
I do hope the difficulties of obtaining the eye medication resolves quickly.

    1. We will have to wait a bit to get the current Happy Valley series. I enjoyed the first two. I hope King Charles does not fall to The Ginger & Whinger's tactics of blackmail & if they do show up at the Coronation that the press gives them no coverage.

  6. So sorry to read that you are having trouble obtaining Mr. Man's prescription eye drops! Hope it becomes easier to get them in the future.
I'm glad you are getting some sunshine and blue skies; the clouds have parted, here, too, and we are getting some late afternoon/early evening sun!
"More or less" has quite a bit of potential as a word of the year. My word is Journey, but, so far, I am just drifting! :D

    1. I like your OLW of Journey & maybe like any journey you have to prepare for it & then there's waiting to check in, board & then take flight. Thankfully being able to get the prescription drops for Mr Man is now something not to worry about for 38 days.

  7. All these mentions of Happy Valley! Dad even exclaimed over it the other day when he saw it in the listings. I have now checked and found all past episodes are available to watch so I suppose I had better get cracking! Fortunately it only seems to be 15 episodes ... unlike the 200 or so waiting for me when I finally caught on to Silent Witness!

Series 11 of Vera seems to have been a real mare to film; we had a couple of episodes in 2021, a couple last year and are just in the middle of the final two now. Apparently Series 12 is in the can and will be shown later this year (here).

Hmmm... I had no intention of reading Spare. I haven't watched any of the interviews either - recent or earlier ones, although the other day they played extracts of some of them on the TV and it struck me that they sounded rehearsed. It has been impossible to avoid the reports about the book. I wondered whether I needed to read it in order to form an opinion but I really don't want to become part of his circus any more than I already am. (I saw it was 50% off in the bookshop at the weekend and people were taking pics of the promo in the window!) I have read a cross-section of reviews, both those supportive and those aghast, and ultimately my sympathies lie with the royal family. Even if every word he said were true, what he has done and the way he has presented it is really quite tawdry; he seems to have absolutely no self-awareness. I think when they got the Queen's blessing to go and do their own thing they should have had the grace and dignity to do so quietly, without starting a public war. There was a letter in the paper the other day which simply said "What does Harry want?" And that's just it. My impression is that he wants to destroy his family or the monarchy or both. I don't want to see them at the coronation - for several reasons.

I do hope Mr Man will be ok for eye drops in future, and indeed that the medications thing will be resolved ASAP.

    1. Hopefully the prescription situation is rectified soon, it is not just for Mr Man but now he's leary of letting any other scripts go down to 7 days before needing to renew. Happy Valley isn't one of those easy watches IMO, but so good. We just finished The Victim & that was amazing. The Ginger & Whinger are IMO the worst of the worst. Families are difficult, loss as a child is horrible, but Prince William has taken his pain & made it work for him. I hope if those two show up for the coronation that the press leave them alone ... "also in attendance ..." is the only by-line they get. My other hope is that King Charles does not bend to their demands of current blackmail because it won't end, it will just give them more power for more & more & more ...

  8. We quite like Very and Shetland. We are looking for something new, too. I'm not sure about Spare, either.

    1. I've decided against Spare as I see it as please spare me, please spare the other Royals your moaning & groaning. I am hope for the new addition of Ashley Jensen in Shetland as we quite liked her in Extras, (but no Agatha Raisin).

  9. I thought I'd left a comment on this post but obviously not! I have no intention of reading 'Spare' and haven't watched any of the documentaries either. Whatever grievances he has and however badly he feels he has been treated his own behaviour and the way he has spoken about, and allowed his wife to speak about, his own family is truly appalling. There seems to be no end to it and I'm not convinced that anyone, Harry included, knows what he wants. It's so sad to see the man he has become.

    1. I agree with you Eileen. What I found very upsetting is the lies & the continuation of misleading falsehoods. Even when things he & she have said are proven not to be true, on they keep. I do not blame Meghan totally as Harry is a grown man. It's sad we have to have history to wait upon to show them for what they truly are. I will pay to see the display of their burnt pants because liar liar pants are on fire!

  10. There are a number of shows I see my favorite British bloggers mention that I can't find here. With all of our channels and streaming services, there is nothing of interest for me to watch.

Not sure but is OLW like a word of the year? I think I have settled on my word. Need to write a post so that I am committed to it.

  11. I won't be reading Spare either; think it should be named Spoiled instead. I am looking forward to starting some new TV series in the new year as well. Will definitely look for the Roger Allam one - I think he is very underrated as an actor.
